The Nigeria Labour Congress has declared that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, does not require any coalition with the Peoples Democratic Party or support from political figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to win the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, the Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, asserted that Obi remains a formidable and widely accepted candidate, capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in a free and fair contest.

Ndubuaku dismissed any speculation about Obi rejoining the PDP, describing the opposition party as a “crisis-ridden and near-empty platform.”

He said, “Peter Obi doesn’t need any coalition to win the 2027 presidential election. He is a sellable candidate. If you recall, he was already coasting to victory in the 2023 elections before the controversial glitches. He even defeated Tinubu in his own stronghold in Lagos, which shows Nigerians want him in power.”

“For as long as INEC conducts a free and fair election, he will win. He can also leverage his local and international connections to make it happen,” Ndubuaku added.

His comments come just days after the Obidients Movement declared unwavering support for Obi, regardless of the platform he chooses to run on in 2027.

The National Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, emphasised that Nigeria is in desperate need of rescue and said Obi remains the only candidate capable of leading the country out of its current economic crisis.

Echoing Tanko’s position, Ndubuaku insisted Obi commands nationwide acceptance across all six geopolitical zones and warned against any return to the PDP.

“No serious candidate will consider the PDP as a viable platform at this point,” he said. “Obi is a disciplined man. If people are suggesting he return to the PDP, on what basis? Compare the PDP’s issues with those of the Labour Party. While LP’s crisis—centering around Julius Abure—has been settled by the Supreme Court, the PDP is still battling a hydra-headed crisis. Moving from LP to PDP would be like jumping from frying pan to fire.”

He further noted that fears about zoning and power rotation are unfounded, especially in light of Obi’s reputation for performance.

“The only reservation some people have is that if Obi wins, he could take the full eight years, which the North fears may disrupt the zoning balance. But we know Obi doesn’t need two years to revive Nigeria. He’s not desperate for power,” Ndubuaku said.

My problem with all of them is that non of them seem to be focusing on the tools tinubu has set in place help him rig/win

If the entire country does not pressure NASS into electoral reform where it will b stated that IREV result is final ND authentic results ... The. The INEC will continue to read out fictional and fabricated results on national t. V show ... Results which does not coroborate with any other result from the source...

That is where the primary problem is

He might not even get as much as 60% of his 2023 votes from the south east if truly there's a free and fair election. I've never seen an election where a single candidate will sweep all the votes in 5 states in an election involving 4 major candidates

Obi really doesn't need coalition to win if the elections are free and fare. In the last election, he won in Lagos and Abuja, which is Tinubu stronghold. Tell me where else he didn't win then. There was not a single celebration in Edo state when Tinubu was declared winner. It kept me wondering who now voted for him. Was it Ghosts and spirits?

No Peter Obi needs a coalition as it is the only way to defeat the ruling party.

How did Tinubu win after loosing Lagos, Abuja and Kano?

We all know that.Even those with ethnic and religious sentiments understands that Obi is very competent to all candidates.Nigeria is a rogue nation,sadly.

That's true but the Nigeria of today solely rely on structures of criminality that is y it will b difficult for obi alone to win alone...and if obi joins them in that structure he will become one of them and Nigeria will have to look for another messiah....and the cycle begins aagain.

God bless you for this. It's not about winning, it's about the transparency of the processes. If you look closely, the rigging for 2027 is almost perfected. While the opposition focused on winning the masses over, the ruling party well aware of her shortcomings, is perfecting wresting it by all means. The CJN is there - go to court, if you want. The INEC Chairman is still there despite the coup last time. In fact nothing has changed. Wike is in Abuja to ensure the magic in Rivers was replicated there. The Rivers crisis is all about 2027 and control of the rigging apparatuses of the state - the best way was a destabilized Rivers since Sim was proving headstrong. Wike's interest is to control the resources of the state, PBAT's interest is the support of Rivers willynilly. Look at Delta state. These politicians might not be with the people of their states, but they are the rigging points to liaise with INEC and police etc. The plot is on in a multi-facet way.
