You cannot ask the government to hands off and then turn around to start asking them to be helping set the price of the product. If you are the private investor, will you agree? Unless the government wants to start paying off subsidies again, makes no sense.

The best structure is still the NLNG structure where both parties work hand in hand. NLNG run like a private company and they pay dividends to the govt through NNPC.

NNPC can be structured that way also. In fact that's what the drafter of the PIA that was passed intended.
When I said the government should hands off I mean they shouldn't be running the show as far as production and marketing is concerned. I still stand by it.

When I say the government should work with the private sector to determine the equitable price of PMS and diesel, I am saying government should do the work of regulator which NNPC is expected to do.

I will give u an example of government's regulatory agency setting price for private sector and how well it has worked:

The Nigerian Insurance sector currently sells Third party Insurance for N15,000.00 , for Comprehensive insurance 3% of the value of the car and 5% of the value of a truck. This price has been set since December 2022. This price has remained and Insurance companies have been profitable. None of them has cried foul, instead they've experienced more revenue since the fixing of prices by NAICOM(The FG owned regulator)

Everything about the oil industry is different, don't forget that the price of oil in the international market can fluctuate anytime which means a fixed price cannot be attainable. The moment government is trying to fix prices for the private investors, one way or the other, subsidies will come into it.

Look at the defunct NEPA and the Discos currently, because NERC which is the regulator of the industry is fixing price for the Discos, the FG had to be paying the differentials in price. The FG currently owe the Discos over 2 Trillion naira. There ar plenty examples of what trying to fix price has caused.

Also the PIA already unbundle the NNPC as a whole and there are 2 regulators for the industry. NUPRC for the upstream sector and NMDPRA for the midstream and downstream sector. I think it was NMDPRA that was having issues with the quality of Dangote fuel then.

NNPLCO is the business aspect of the company and the regulators both NUPRC and NMDPRA are meant to regulate them also as NNPLCO are involved in all three tiers of the industry.

Its counter productive to privatize and still govt setting prices. The best way is to have many private producers and competition drives down prices

While I dont know the details about the Insurance examples you gave but Oil touches everywhere and affects almost everyone in the country, it is a very sensitive sector and if ABC oil says they are producing at 2000 per liter and want to sell at 2500, Then govt says you cannot sell above 1500. They either shut down or govt starts paying the price differential, then another subsidy comes into play

We have tried govt running refineries for half a century with disastrous results, the next obvious thing is the full privatization

diezani was the only time we had a fully independent petroleum minister. the woman had impeccable credentials. shell through and through. born with a silver spoon coming out of every orifice . not a person who had not seen money before. not a man who would blow money on numerous sidechicks

but the woman wilded out like no mans business and blew money on chris aire diamonds and stealing money asif she had not seen money before. i think that is one of the reasons we dont have a substantive petroleum minister today

That was the litmus test

same thing unfortunately is likely to happen with a fully unbundled nnpc

I am not against full privatization, Larride is .

I have suggested that we either have full privatization with government's regulatory agency acting as the watchdog to ensure the private investors don't exploit the market either through the power of monopoly or oligopoly. That's all I have been saying.

The government's agency can set a price floor or price ceiling as the case may be. The price ceiling or price floor will definitely put into consideration production cost, international oil price, and profitability.

This unbundling of NNPC hasn't achieved much as far as I know. But I will study the PIA sha and I will see if its full implementation will achieve much

You should be on an ICS-LABA preventer inhaler (at least during the rainy season).
Examples are Symbicort (Budesonide +Formoterol) and Seretide (Fluticasone + Salmeterol).

You use them regularly during that rainy season to prevent the attacks from taking place. Symbicort is also good in that apart from using it as a preventer you can also use it like Ventolin (as a reliever for acute attack).

They will give better asthma control than what you are currently doing and are infinitely safer than Aminophylline injection which can trigger cardiac arrhythmia.

I always find it fascinating when the same citizens whose lives have been greatly impacted negatively start creating excuses or defending the failures of the government or those in power, as if that’s supposed to console the common man. It’s almost as if the common man should pity the policymakers who live in luxury while benefiting from our wealth, securing the future of their descendants for generations to come.

These leaders claimed they would hit the ground running because they have the solutions we need. Nobody should pity them; that’s what the current president said himself—no one forced him to take on this role. So when people start using the excuse of saboteurs, my question is: didn’t they consider the impact of these so-called saboteurs and how they would address that issue before declaring themselves the solution? Or are they actually the saboteurs themselves?

In any private institution, the entire government would have been sacked by now for putting the country in this position without any hope of getting us out of it anytime soon.

It’s a shameful something! Tinubu is failing hard, and no amount of shalaye or PR work can change that fact!
You’ve made some strong and valid points.it's absolutely fair for citizens to hold their leaders accountable, especially when hardship deepens and promised solutions feel far from reach. Nobody should excuse poor governance or create a halo around public officials while the common man suffers. As the president himself said, no one was forced into this job. Leadership, especially at this level, is a choice with enormous responsibility.

That said, while it’s right to demand results, we must also confront the brutal truth: Nigeria is in a deeply complex and broken state, structurally, economically, and institutionally. Even if we were to resurrecty the great Chief Obafemi Awolowy and hand him the reins today, he would fail woefully unless sweeping systemic reforms are implemented and there is collective sacrifice.
I will take part of the sacrifice you too will bring the lamb for sacrifice it will be a joint effort of everyone of us, but how will that be possible if our leaders can not show example , millions for wardrobe allowance , millions for seating allowance etc etc.

This doesn’t mean we should excuse failure or silence criticism, far from it. Anyone who desires to lead must be able to stomach criticism, accept scrutiny, and still perform under pressure. But we also need to stop pretending that leadership alone can instantly reverse decades of rot, mismanagement, corruption, and sabotage.

Yes, the saboteur excuse is often overused. However, it’s also naive to think that entrenched interests don’t actively work against change. Anyone who steps into that seat should have anticipated this, and it’s their duty to confront it, not complain about it.

The unfortunate reality is that it will get worse before it gets better. The economy wasn’t just damaged,it was hollowed out. Recovery will take years, not months, and certainly not magic slogans. I don’t envy the presidency. They knew the state of the nation before stepping in, and Nigerians expect not perfection, but sincerity, transparency, and a clear roadmap with measurable actions, not PR.

So yes, let's criticize, but constructively. Let’s demand better, but also understand the mountain we’re asking leaders to climb. And most importantly, let’s hold every leader, present and future, to the same standard, from local to national not just the ones we dislike.

The frequency at which you use Ventolin will reduce. Also avoid triggers
