DissTroy:There's a reason why Ngige and FG tried to implement laws to stop doctors from leaving, and it's because no halfway doctor is collecting 200k salary in monopoly money especially when there's a global skill shortage. Any doctor staying put on a 200k salary is most likely an organ harvester in disguise. To put it in context, a decent developer working remotely for £500 a month is more than a bargain for a remote employer in the UK where minimum wage is £1960 monthly, and that's literally only going to get you cleaners and McDonald's workers in the UK Yet that £500 is 1 million naira. A developer that can't find wages 4 times less than a UK cleaner is trash. A developer that is earning almost 200k salary is scamming somebody. Unless you're a Lords Chosen and have the latest bulletproof vest, I strongly advise that you don't go to that 200k doctor, probably advertising his services on the 200k coders website. It's a setup |

nihilistjnr:Let me give you a reality check. There are so many Port Harcourt residents here so they can confirm what I am about to type next. Beginning from the Eleme axis of the PH -Aba road, drive through and check out adjoining roads from MTN to Rumuokurushi to Rumuola to Garrison, D-Line all the way to Diobu. You'd find private hospitals in these areas. Ask them to find out the salaries of medical doctors if many aren't within the #350,000 or less bracket. KingTom is a medical doctor, no? He might not agree to demarket/devalue his colleagues publicly but if he is up to it or in private, he'd certainly let you in on the reality. Without revealing too much, I have seen salary sheets. Some for private hospitals preferred by Mobil, NDDC and the likes. Do you realize there are #3,000 graphic designers and those charging #50,000 to #70,000 for a design? In the same city. Do you realize there are people charging #5,000 per article and people charging $50 to $100 for a >1,400 word article? In the same city. Do you realize there are people on Nairaland offering to build websites for peanuts in the Programming Section (they create threads), and there are those who would curse you out if you offer then #700,000 for a website even if you buy the domain and web hosting and provide the UI/UX yourself? It's about placing a premium on your skills, learning people skills to market it, and exploring opportunities constantly. |

https://www.google.com/search?q=doctors+salary+in+nigeria Averags doctors' salaries in Nigeria: #250,000. A few years ago, there was a Ukraine-trained medical doctor begging to have #130,000 as salary in Port Harcourt. He jumped at the offer. These things were on my table so I knew how much they earned. Take the average state-owned hospital or private hospital in Lagos, Port Harcourt or Abuja then find out how much the doctors earn. Now imagine what less economically-viable cities pay doctors on the average. These doctors see patients and perform surgeries every other day. There were doctors taking crazy risks for NGO jobs in the North East for #450,000 as at last year. Only recently did Police Inspectors start earning #250,000. It was #150,000 last year. Inspectors. Trust me, there are people who would jump at that Angular plus React Frontend developer job in Nigeria. Students especially. Being skilled and very good at what you are different from bargaining and marketing/people skills. I'd send a Twitter link of a guy who can't code if you point a gun to his head but he charges $4,999 for Webflow websites on monthly subscription basis. Skill and value placement be are not the same. This is the reality. |

nihilistjnr:Dey play Japa is for the young There are 50+ year old Doctors in Naija accepting N200k. The ship has sailed for them as far as japa I was shocked when we organised almost full time nursing care for my grandmother with Doctor dropping by once a week to supervise and take vitals for N70k per month. This was in 2022 From that N70k, he would pay the nurse N40k full time salary and collect N30k for oversight. The nurse goes to my grandmas house everyday for like 10 hours |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 11:40pm On May 01, 2025 |
Ibime:Now someone who gets the reality on ground. Some years ago, a certain Ukraine-trained medical doctor was willing to accept even #130,000 as starting salary. Yes, you counted the zeros correctly. He's an Ogoni guy. About 40 years old then with a wife and kid from the CV he submitted. And this wasn't a random hospital. It was a top specialist hospital in PH City preferred by oil companies,NNPC, NDDC, and top HMOs. No opening yet but dude begged to be kept informed. One of the doctors was being paid less than #200,000 as basic salary but he was also part of surgeries. UniPort graduate. Medical bills by the oil companies alone for their staff was in millions monthly. Meanwhile, there was a physiotherapist in the same organisation earning almost the same as the doctor with other pecks. The amount you're paid isn't directly proportional to your professional competence. |

Ibime:Only Lagos even pay high, in many states away from capital city, that N200k go be like senator salary. How much you think say private clinic doctor in Ede Osun state, Afikpo Ebonyi or Bilirri in Gombe dey earn? How much full professor of medicine sef for University teaching hospital dey earn? Probably less that cleaner in UK |

I think this idea of demolishing properties linked to people who perpetrated crimes like kidnapping, robbery, etc needs to be abloihsed by state governors. I saw a video of Edo state government demolishing the house of a man. The man who owned the house while being interviewed by the press men said his son actually killed a woman. The son is a 28 year old man who lives in a boys quarter in the man's house. After the man heard the news of his son killing a woman, he went to the police station to report the crime. The police evacuated the corpse and detained the man. The son who perpetuated the crime was later caught and the father released. Now the Edo state government went ahead to demolish the house which the man claimed he built with his house. Now the father and his 4 other children are homeless despite the fact that the police now have the culprit in custody. In what world is it fair to rid the father his property because of the crime his son committed? The man claimed he had taken the son to rehab severally because the son has always been problematic to him.

BlueRayDick:Nigeria police no d follow law. Substitutional arrest is illegal and is against the law. You can't arrest a father for a crime committed by his son just because the son cannot be found. Nigeria police too mumu abeg. I pray that man get justice. They should not only build the house they destroyed, they should pay for other damages too. This reminds me of what Oyedepo said " If pikin no turn out well ( into crime, drugs and all) na d parents d feel the most pain" |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 6:28am On May 02, 2025 |
monerozi5590:There are two wrong parties : 1. The police who arrested the father in place of the son. 2. The state government that ordered the demolition of the building without any court process affirming such order. Nigeria na real jungle where powerful |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 7:39am On May 02, 2025 |
iamoyindamola:a lot of older doctors charge very little for services. they almost do pro bono [my old man included] , and nigerians will take advantage of this . especially if you are not in lag where everybody go open eye by force. it is so bad that a family friend who has a hospital he is running with his daughters was basically given an ultimatum for them to work together - WE manage everything financial - and you face the theater. otherwise the man will run the hospital into the ground with treatment that is almost free |

DissTroy:My job involves delivering tech solutions for clients at scale and more importantly for cheap. In my line of work, I have worked with developers in Poland, Bulgaria, Vietnam, India, Ukraine amongst other places. This is a quote from 2022 talking about working with developers in an active warzone nihilistjnr:Business is driven primarily by 3 core objectives - increase revenue, increase profitability, reduce risk If global businesses are willing to continue using developers in an active conflict zone, it shows alignment with the directive to increase profitability by hiring cheap talent. Any developer staying on 200k in tampon wrappers is trash. Software engineering is far more than writing code. The architectural element of solution development (which is what I do) and the ability to understand and think about the execution of core engineering principles is far more important than being able to write hello world in c#. The decent talent in your part of the world is constantly being scooped up as western businesses continually look for cheaper equivalent talent. An experienced developer(as per that job ad) on N200k is TRASH. it's not about marketing their skills or anything like that. They take such jobs because they know they don't deserve better, because trust me, there are so many businesses looking to hire talent on 20 times that amount and still feel like they're cheating the talent. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 8:02am On May 02, 2025 |
nihilistjnr:the other part of the question is an issue you see a lot in Nigeria there is always someone who is ready to undercut you and charge less, and there is always someone who wants to engage him most of the standards you are referring to are what the average nigerian client will refer to as unnecessary english quite literally i had a fight with a client in nnpc who was trying to lowball us on design costs. was telling me he had someone who would do the work at a 1/4 of what he was offering me well project has start and i can see what the 1/4 price lowball design is. take over site and we are already having calls from contractors to inform of variations but this is what your average nigerian wants - very very cheap work, and with no one to vet - you just get garbage |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by nihilistjnr: 8:09am On May 02, 2025 |
Ibime:The good thing about this is that you are(or maybe you've moved on) in the business of Healthcare, so you know how much you would have to pay if your grandma was here. So you too can look at the service offering for care facilities here vs care facilities in PH. I shouldn't have to remind you about the huge numbers of people that left Nigeria in recent years to come here to do care support work on £12 per hour that is dirt cheap by UK standards and baller by Nigerian standards. That doctor that is taking 30k a month most likely doesn't give a flying fvck if your grandma drops dead at any point. You don't pay him enough for him to care what happens to your grandma beyond keeping her alive long enough for him to collect multiple 30ks for your hand. To believe otherwise is to be delusional. That man may rub iodine on grandma's leg to treat her headache. |

iamoyindamola:No be me meet am or negotiate am. So far so good, my grandma clocked 102 years old two weeks ago under their care. We are even wishing the Lord will come and take her cos the quality of life no good at that age, but she no gree Japa. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by nihilistjnr: 8:30am On May 02, 2025 |
Ibime:Grandma is probably eating right and has elite genetics. Cos a doctor on 30k a month probably can't afford basic equipment to treat grandma in a crisis. My own grandmother was buried last Friday after reaching 106. Our family home is in ilaje-Bariga, one of the dirtiest, trashest, most unsanitary ghettoes in all of Lagos(look it up) , and my Grandmother lived there (and died there) for over 70 years. Sometimes the DNA just strong like that. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 8:45am On May 02, 2025 |
nihilistjnr:No, the best don't always know they are the best and/or aren't willing to jettison what they are comfortable with to risk the uncertain. Labour laws everywhere require that you at least adhere to the minimum wage. That's the most demand. Since there's no standard software engineering or web developer salary, employers would exploit. Heck! As at last year, GitHub which most websites, apps and softwares depend on owned by Microsoft had almost all their software engineering team (100 of them) based in India and they paid them less than the standard. Right on Fiverr or Upwork, there's an Indian or Bangladeshi guy offering to build you a web app for a ridiculous amount of money. Login to see. And these guys put up their portfolios to view publicly. Asides those in Big Tech Companies, there's no standard salary for software or web developers, even in the U. S. Your software development skill is just like carpentry or pipe fitting or even neurosurgery - if you don't bargain well or explore better opportunities while at it, that's it. I won't take peanuts because I place a premium on what I do. You won't do it for the same reason. Other people here won't do it, maybe. But it doesn't mean we are necessarily better skilled than those who take up the jobs. How come the Nigerian doctor paid #300,000 in the Nigeria migrates and fits in well with the U.K. system, treating and operating like he should and earning £15,000 to £22,000 monthly if, according to you, accepting the #300,000 hitherto made him a quack? Techies are a luckier because they have the option of working remotely and earning forex, but it doesn't mean Yakubu the furniture maker at Idi-Iroko isn't as competent as McPherson the furniture maker at Carnaby Street. |

Tech Cabal ran a story on Motunrayo two months ago, a 300 Level cerebral Unilag engineering student with patents and inventions. https://techcabal.com/2025/03/12/unilag-motunrayo-sanyaolu-engineering It's easy to get lost in your admiration for her feats to not notice she mentioned earning #50,000 monthly salary on the side to support her inventions. I've been keenly following her since then and I hope she's gotten better pay. Pray tell, how many of us on this thread who earn multiple times what she earns have patents and inventions? According to Nihilistjnr she's a quack. But I am acquainted with 200 Level students earning #600,000 basic monthly salaries while doing gigs on the side in the city I mostly reside in. No less than #1 million monthly. Are they beter-skilled than Motunrayo based simply on the pay gap. |
