Please permit me to share my story anonymously because I need advice, and maybe, just maybe, someone here might have experienced something similar or can help.

In May 2023, I received a long-awaited federal appointment offer from a top government financial institution. It felt like a dream come true. The offer letter clearly stated that I had to resign from my current job before documentation, so I did.

At the time, I was working with a leading commercial bank. I had stability, was on track for confirmation as full staff, and was doing well. But I made the tough decision to resign because I didn’t want to disobey the instructions in the appointment letter. I believed that better things were ahead.

Unfortunately, that belief is what’s hurting me today.

Since then ,no induction, no documentation, no follow-up. Nothing.
The management of the institution changed shortly after we received the offer, and since then, it has been complete silence.

I’m not the only one. There are many others like me — young Nigerians who resigned, relocated, and gave up good jobs or businesses for this opportunity. A few are now depressed. Some haven’t recovered financially. And worst of all, we have no official statement telling us whether to keep hoping or move on.

Right now, I am unemployed, struggling, and confused.
Did I make a mistake by trusting the system?
How do I explain to people that I resigned from a bank job based on a federal offer that never materialized?

This is not a pity post. I’m just tired. Maybe someone here knows what we can do, or whom to speak to.

I am not a sentimentalist. Therefore, I do not judge what I do not understand. So, I have two questions for you to answer before I form an opinion about your situation.

1.
How legitimate or concrete was the process of you getting the federal job promise? Answer this very question if your ways are pure. If you dodge this question, it means you deserve the failure of the federal job plan.

2.
Did you follow ethical processes in resigning from your former job? Or, did you just abscond from the job?

Sorry about your experience... I really understand how crazy this feels.

You just have to pock-up yourself and move on cos that appointment is no longer coming except a miracle happens.

Try to secure another job and get on from there.

Sorry about your predicament.. did you make findings about their recruitment process?
How sure are you that the offer letter was genuine (on scale of 1 - 10)?

Right now it's a matter of 50/50.. you might be called upon for necessary documentation or you might never hear from them.
Once there is change in Government, they mostly want to do everything afresh and recruit their own people.

You can head to the parastatal in question and find out from the HR section reason for the silence. All the best.

How would they have certified you were working? You did the right thing by resigning.

It is sad it turned out this way.

If you are sure you didn't fraudulently buy the job, find a way to get in touch with your House of Reps/Senator's office in Abuja. Yes, desperate times require desperate measures.

Meet him/her. Cry and narrate your situation to the person. The person will swing into action. That's why you have someone like him/her. It's not like you want to beg him money or a job. He/she will get involved.

But if you used the backdoor to get the job, just move on with your life because life happens!

You have been scammed my brother. Any federal work that did not announce their recruitment through national daily or vanguard news papers such recruitment is fake

If it’s not too long ago you resigned your bank can take you back. Hopefully you built good relationships and didn’t burn your bridges on your way out. Contact your HR

Moral lesson: never leave your job, untill you get another one, and even if you get another one first take permission that you are traveling from your current job and go test the new job first may be it worth, ireee oooo

This is what I hate about this country nigeria, no continuity
Once a new government or oga enters office, everything pause, destroys the previous agreements, renege on a lot of contracts.....why Nigeria? why?

This same thing happened in ministry of defense.
A team was sent across nigeria, monies and hotel bills paid and spent over weeks exercise, recommendations done, oya issue appointment letters....oga push everything one side and carry on as if nothing happened.

@op I don't blame you because it was stated that you should resign first, but me I would not have resigned as long as they wouldn't know if I had done that.

I urge you to stand fast and strong, don't be discouraged.
Keep praying to God perhaps they will dust up the files and you guys start work.

Some even take their leave that period to check things out first.

I know a couple of people with a similar experience. The job was gotten through back door; some even paid for it and since then, they have been left stranded.

Oh....yes, I heard one of my classmates from secondary school bought hers for 1 Million Naira some years ago.

Just yesterday I was speaking with another classmate from uni, she was lamenting about the poor reward structure and system at her own federal agency. In her words "I don't know who asked me to come and work in the federal civil service, the brain drain here is something else" among other things she said.

I understand from a cousin who served with the NCC (the communications agency) that when you start work there not as a corper but full time staff you are not paid until after 3 months. She was shocked that I started work at the beginning of October and I was going to get paid at the end of October, that's when she revealed the practice at NCC.

I have never understood and will never understand the agitation and hustle for federal government jobs. I will take a private sector job any time any day, over a federal government one. Thanks to the likes of Jim Ovia, Atedo Peterside, Paul Adefarasin and others who have built empires that provide meaningful work, pay and benefits to others.

I believe you're aggressively searching for another job because the level of corruption and unpredictability in Nigerian public institutions can never be fathomed in its entirety.

Get another job and if they call you fine, if not, you'd be okay.

To apply pressure, team up with other aggrieved applicants and file a petition to the right quarters in the institution. That's if and only if your recruitment process was legit.

I believe you have moved on to other things.
That government appointment is null and void already. This is Nigeria, the organization would have moved on with new management and a new mandate/team.

Your predicament is the change of top management
There was thorough in house cleansing, it probably affected the channel you came through
