casualobserver:It's not certain that you read through or you deliberately shut ur mind out cos of the bias u got against her. If not, you would have seen that she has a 9yr old and it's a case of secondary infertility. |

jmoore:please differentiate it. In both cases you give your consent, in both cases you are paid, in both cases your comes in contact with another person’s body or fluid from their body. As long as both are done willingly and for the sake of money there is no difference. There is a reason they call the carrier of the pregnancy a surrogate mother and the owner of the egg as the real mother. |

omoyorubaatata:You my be right, but biologically, the egg/sperm owners are the parents. Have u ever seen or heard about d DNA results of kids born via surrogacy? |

mignone:It is not a case of secondary infertility but a lifestyle choice Rich people have the means to freeze their eggs and can have babies through surrogacy into their 70s or even after they are dead She is 47 now. When were the eggs(if they are hers_) harvested It looks like she just made selfish choices because she has money not to go through pregnancy when she was younger and now will just go to the Freezer bring out eggs and find a vulnerable surrogate woman to exploit and she can probably do that every 2 or 3 years We are in a tough world and so for the Nigerian mind that is no biggie Agreement is agreement But she should stop forming feminist Women make such decision because they want to preserve their figures and they are rich and in some cases do not even want a man so they get a sperm donor who is anonymous |

omonnakoda:You seem to be a family friend to Chimamanda cos u're so sure that her case is one of lifestyle choice and not secondary infertility. Also, I don't know the health status of d women around u or maybe u don't even have them at all cos I personally know many women who are still very fertile into their 50s, so how difficult is it to retrieve eggs from a menstruating woman in this day and age, even if she has other gynae issues. |

If it were someone else from a tribe not her own, she would have gone on world tour saying human rights and women’s rights in Nigeria. O ga o |

This is the woman who criticized publicly Hilary Clinton for putting her husband first. This is the woman who criticised priests in the catholic church. This is the woman who supports Peter Obi. This is what Nigeria dodged. Glory be to God |

PressMyButton:With all respect She has a right to use a surrogate to achieve pregnancy. It is 2 willing parties. It is not illegal. Biology and Nature are nobodys mate. Having children through a surrogate is not a crime as both parties agreed to it |

Kobojunkie:Definitely anti surrogacy. At least some factions of feminism see it as slavery |
| Re: My Twins Were Born By Surrogacy - Chimamanda Adichie by chris51(f): 12:51am On May 04, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:Whoever owns the eggs is the biological mother. If DNA is done, it will not show that the surrogate woman has anything to do with it. |

Kobojunkie:Feminist perspectives on surrogacy are diverse, with some feminists supporting women's right to choose surrogacy, while others view it as a form of exploitation and oppression. Liberal feminists generally view surrogacy as a matter of reproductive autonomy, while radical feminists argue it reinforces patriarchal control over women's bodies and reinforces traditional gender roles. The assumption is that she is radical |

mignone:He supports Tinubu and APC...! Adichie is in their black book for massive criticisms of this government and the last major elections. This should tell you all you need to know about who you are quoting. If Tinubu's daughter or the first lady made this same statement, he would not have made that comment. There is a reason why I always liken Sycophancy to mental illness. |

chris51:Don't bother yourself...! These are misogynistic APC supporters who hate the person of Adichie. Trust me... If she had said something in favor of natural conception and breastfeeding, they would have still found issues with them. This entire thread is not exactly about Surrogacy...! It's just an avenue or opportunity to drag the celebrated Author. |

Kobojunkie:The surrogate mother was probably paid. The same way men donate sperm... you don't go looking for the sperm donor to thank him. Do you? |

Arostar2023:You compare carrying a child for 9 whole months and through labor— something that has been described as a long-term illness — to the spilling of sperm, and almost auto reflex for many out there? 😩😩😩😩 |

How is this different from our Senator, who got into trouble in the UK? I guess we would say that wasn't consensual. How do we know if this one is? By the way, who is breastfeeding the twins and for how long? I need to see the contract and the wages someone is being paid for all this. It better be in the millions or hundreds of thousands of dollars. PressMyButton: |

Surrogacy and IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) are both assisted reproductive technologies, but they serve different purposes and involve different processes. Surrogacy 1. Definition: Surrogacy involves a woman (the surrogate) carrying and giving birth to a baby for another person or couple (the intended parents). 2. Types: There are two main types of surrogacy: traditional (where the surrogate is the egg donor) and gestational (where the surrogate has no genetic relation to the child). 3. Purpose: Surrogacy is often used when a woman is unable to carry a pregnancy herself due to medical reasons, or for same-sex couples or single individuals who want to build their families. IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) 1. Definition: IVF is a fertility treatment where an egg is fertilized with sperm outside the body, and the resulting embryo is transferred to the woman's uterus. 2. Purpose: IVF is used to treat various fertility issues, such as blocked fallopian tubes, low sperm count, or unexplained infertility. 3. Process: IVF involves egg retrieval, fertilization in a lab, and embryo transfer to the uterus. Key Differences 1. Purpose: Surrogacy focuses on carrying a pregnancy for someone else, while IVF aims to achieve pregnancy for the individual or couple undergoing treatment. 2. Process: Surrogacy involves a surrogate carrying the pregnancy, whereas IVF involves transferring an embryo to the intended mother's uterus (or a gestational surrogate's uterus in some cases). 3. Genetic relationship: In surrogacy, the surrogate may or may not be genetically related to the child, depending on the type of surrogacy. In IVF, the resulting child is genetically related to the egg and sperm providers. Both surrogacy and IVF offer hope to individuals and couples struggling with fertility issues or building their families in non-traditional ways. |

A gestational surrogate mother carries and gives birth to a baby for another person or couple, but she doesn't contribute her own egg to the conception. Instead, the egg comes from the intended mother or an egg donor. Shared Aspects 1. Womb environment: The surrogate mother provides the womb environment for the baby to grow and develop during pregnancy. 2. Nutrients and oxygen: She supplies the baby with essential nutrients and oxygen through the placenta. 3. Physical connection: The surrogate mother's body is physically connected to the baby during pregnancy, and she feels the baby's movements and kicks. Not Shared 1. Genetic material: The surrogate mother does not contribute her own DNA to the baby, as the egg comes from another source. 2. Parenting role: After birth, the surrogate mother typically does not have a parental role or responsibilities for the child. Gestational surrogacy allows individuals or couples to build their families with the help of a compassionate and dedicated surrogate mother. |

Kobojunkie:That's what it is to you. It takes a sperm, an egg and a womb to make a baby. All are essential... |

Kobojunkie:Not necessarily, it could all be that her desire to have children, supersedes her professed position. It is not material to me though as surrogacy means nothing to me |
