I'm a subject teacher in a secondary school. I got the job after defending my project last year, August 2024. The school was paying me 50k while others were collecting 65k.The reason was that I didn't collect my statement of result to show them. After collecting statement of result last month and showed them, they decided to pay as others teachers.Meanwhile,my mum is urging me to register for NYSC of which I didn't want to go now.
What should I do?

So this sch is paying you 65k without NYSC certificate . If you decide to follow your mum's advice and go for service , you would end up with more benefits. For example. NYSC would be paying you 77K , which is way more than what you currently earn . Secondly, in about a year, you will also have completed and obtained your NYSC certificate. 3rdly and most importantly you will have the option to apply for many more high paying jobs with your NYSC certificate or even decide to further your education which the NYSC certificate is also a prerequisite. In addition , you will also get to learn a profitable skill during SAED program at NYSC and other professional bodies will come advertise for you to take on a professional course at discounted prices . don't go for NYSC, stay in d skool and be enjoying ya life!

You can still work your nysc to serve and still teach at the school where you currently teach. It'll be a win win for you

Sign up for nysc and retain the school as your ppa. If this doesn't work out, resign and go for your NYSC. You should not give up on a brighter future future because of 65k.

I think he is banking on the side hustle that comes with being a teacher. Most teachers earn far morethan their monthly salary from call-ins. But then again, like you have said, that isn't a good reason to give up on everything.
