The problem is how to identify those who are truly poor. There are people in Nigeria who are classified as poor, that is, living on less than a dollar daily. But some of these people may have much more money at their disposal. Ordinarily you'd classify beggars as poor, but believe me many of them aren't poor at all, they're just preying on other people's generosity. A man recently narrated how he'd been giving a certain beggar 2k on Fridays, but later discovered that the beggar owns three keke that he's hiring out. The method they are using in assessing the poverty level is misleading and wrong.
This your analogy does not follow Economic theories of class differences, there is GDP and there is GDP per capita, now the GDP of a State is the total Revenue + Expenditure incurred per annum, while GDP per capita is the total wealth ratio per individual in a state. The op is using the GDP ratio of Ebonyi state, Government holds that data from the States Statistics Agency, the entire revenue the state made in a year can be used to determine the poverty or wealth ratio of a State. If you wish to measure GDP per Capital, Banks will give information about number of people having 500k and above in their accounts, how many individually owned companies are in existence in the state, Car Merchants will give data of how many cars are bought in a year, week or days and cars from 5million naira and above may be used as yardstick to measure the wealth ratio of a State per capita. Ebonyi is poor, if the data is from the government of their total revenue in a year.

This is why North needs to support Peter Obi. Production companies are the surest ways to boost wealth. Not sharing Rice and palliatives to anyone who shouts hunger. If each Northern States can have like 20 Agricultural and Mineral Companies in their states, Security guaranteed, North will be competing with their middle East brothers.

How is SW the richest region?
The west coast was their turf, they've been rich before independence, and still consolidating on their position.
Hope you dig?, Yorubas are also nationals of other countries in the West coast, so they've been leveraging on this for a loooonnng time.

I made a mistake. The 3 states were called Anambra. I meant to say that Enugu and Ebonyi were carved out of Anambra. But Enugu was the capital when the 3 states were together. I have corrected the mistake. Thank you for pointing it out.
You still made a mistake again, ebonyi was carved out from both enugu and abia States.

Remember ogbaonnaya onu who is from present day ebonyi State was once a governor of abia

Ebonyi is actually poor. But I have two questions.

1.
What percentage of poverty alleviation funds or programmes by the federal government gets to Ebonyi State?

2.
What is the Common Entrance Examination cut-off mark for Ebonyi State?

Do the comparisons if you still doubt the glaring tribalism and marginalisation that the East faces in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, those who use Monday sit-at-home order to mock the East are disappointed here as Enugu, Anambra, Abia and Imo are not on the list. They even published that the sit-at-home order has crippled the economy of the East.

Be realistic. Ebonyi is a very young State. Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra were together as one State. During that period, development was focused more on Enugu as the state capital. This also explains why Enugu is more developed than Anambra despite the fact that Anambra has richer people. Enugu and Ebonyi were later carved out to coexist as one State and they remained together as such for some years before Ebonyi was carved out of Enugu.
i dont think Enugu is more developed than Anambra, but the city Enugu is more developed than Awka, Anambra is highly urbanized than Enugu, the probs with Enugu as a state is development is always concentrated in The Capital City

Most of the poorest states are concentrated in the northern region.

For far too long, certain leaders in Northern Nigeria have benefited from a system that thrives on poverty, illiteracy, and silence. They have failed to prioritize education, healthcare, and infrastructure — choosing instead to enrich themselves while keeping the people uninformed and dependent.

But this cycle must end.

It’s time for Northern youths to wake up. Ask the hard questions. Demand transparency. Challenge systems that don’t serve you. Your future cannot be mortgaged for political gain.

You deserve:

Quality education, not propaganda.

Opportunities, not empty promises.

A voice, not silence.

Reforms will not come from the top — they begin with you. Mobilize. Organize. Speak out. Your awareness is their greatest fear.

Enough is enough!

SW has been the richest region in Nigeria even without Lagos. It has been so since the inception of Nigeria.
We should take another look at regionalism, biko.
How? Take out Lagos and let us compare the GDP of the other SW states. Even in colonial times they were not the richest region.

19 northern states.

9 of them made the list.

But their leaders are not concerned.

It is so sad! Unfortunately, leaders in those regions love keeping their people in that state so they could easily be bought for political and terrorism reasons!

The distance between the rich and the poor is toooo long!

that scenario doesn't mean all beggers are rich. We have vast majority of average Nigerians living underpaid, not to even talk of those who barely make $2 a day.
