He said d coach requested he pays him 100,000 dollars to play for Nigeria.

Nigeria is found on corruption. The corruption capital of the world
Why not expose him back then? How much did lukmon and co pay before their enlistment.

Nigeria never begged him that is a lie without evidence

How old are you? Name the coach that begged him.
I am old Enough to remember FATHER TIKO so tell us which coach begged him??
I am old enough to remember when or Team was called Green Eagles NOT Super Eagles so you cannot bullshit me

You just make up ridiculous stories to catch clout.

Many kids imagine the world in the 80s looked like it does now.

It did not

The premiership was not born , we were not watching English football and the ordinary person in Nigeria did not know him

I remember they brought Two Nigerians from the English First Division as it used to be called then John Chiedozie and another guy and they were not successful

John Fashanu was at his Prime at the same time as Rashidi Yekini
Why would we beg him when we had Yekini
In 1994 We had our best team ever and were ranked Number 6 by FIFA. We did not need him.
We brought in Efan Ekoku from England and he was always on the Bench
The other guy you want to remember is Tunde Banjo.

We were watching highlight of English football though. Even though we had more access to the Brazilian league of Santos, Fluminese and the rest.

Old soldier, you suppose don retire.

It has always been written as "Owobokiri" all these years. This is my first time of seeing this version..
But I'm now conversant with the meaning. I mean the "wayward look out for kpekus" definition. Learnt that here from Ishilove. Can't help but love the name more and more. It fits gloriously.
Oh?

All these years, I actually thought you picked the moniker deliberately.
Re: I Want To Be Head Coach Of Super Eagles – Fashanu by gabbasin(m): 6:19am On May 05, 2025
John Fashanu was called up for one of Nigeria's Mexico '86 World Cup qualifying matches in 1985, he came and train with the team but was not listed for that match. It was after the disappointment of not being played in that match that made him turn to the three lions. I think the Nigeria coach then was Udemezue of blessed memory. Such a lanky player, he played for Wimbledon too.

Some of us watched "Big League Soccer" back then that focussed on English football with highlights from other European leagues.

I knew John and Justin Fashanu because my Dad, who was an amateur footballer (and a very good one) also schooled in Huddersfield where the Fashanus were born and he knew them, though they're much younger.

Those days, we didn't understand English football, Iust admit. We called it "Kick and Run Football" because it lacked the flair and dribbles we see today.

I remember Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes, Milky Thomas, Souness, Steady and of course the Fash brothers.

Get a coaching experience first. Coaching Super Eagles is not an experimental job or for your dreams to come true.

Foolish man. He should go and Coach the English Team. Nigeria was practically begging this guy to play for the Country in the '80s, he refused
Fashanu actually accepted invitation to play for Nigeria in one the 1986 world Cup qualifying matches, he came down and train with the team but wasn't featured in the match. He didn't refused to play.

Vincent Kompany just won the German bundesliga..
He basically jumped into coaching from Man city! Should we write him off too? Ditto Alonso before him..
Players who played for decades and are reasonably versed in the technicalities of the game can coach well. Look at Fabregas at Como..
You can't compare club coaching to national team coaching. You don't always have your kind of players in the national team

Lets be real; He was not born here. He grew up there, studied there, made friends and had relatives there. Yes, he didn't play for Nigeria, but John has made great efforts over the years to make up for that in so many ways. He made the decision to play for England at a very young agae, not sure he was even close to Nigeria at that point. Blame the father if not.. As he got older, he has always been "home"..
I think we shouldn't hold that against him. Most of us will do the same if we were in his shoes..

If you look after yourself physically and mentally, hang out with young people and don't eat too much rice you will be alright in your old age

Fashanu and Rashidi Yekini were the same age

Safe us with your story, so many Nigeria footballer were not born in Nigeria but they are patriotic enough to make decision and play for the country. The current Africa footballer of the yeat Lookman was not born here but decide to play for Nigeria.
Nigeria captain also not born here.
Let him go and apply for England coaching job. Simple
