*Akpabio urged defend self before Presidential Panel Setup to Investigate Sexual Harassment Allegation by Senator Natasha*

In a fresh twist to the ongoing political drama at the National Assembly, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has allegedly withdrawn from a presidential panel set up to investigate sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
The revelation was made by Mrs Oby Ndukwe, President for "Citizens Quest for Truth" public in Saturday’s edition of Politics Today on Channels Television, anchored by Seun Okinbaloye.

The panel was established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on April 2 and was to be chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima. Members included the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Attorney General of the Federation; and one representative each nominated by Akpabio and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. The panel was mandated to investigate the serious allegations that have drawn national attention and embarrassment.

Akpabio’s reported withdrawal from the investigation panel, without offering any official explanation, has triggered widespread speculation across the country. Sources close to the matter claim the Senate President cited undue interference by the Executive arm and lack of confidence in the neutrality of the panel as reasons for his decision.

It could be recalled that Akpabio and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had been at loggerheads in recent months, following the senator’s open accusation of sexual harassment against the Senate President. In a controversial move, the Senate had suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan pending the outcome of the investigation, a decision that many viewed as a silencing tactic.

Akpabio is the Senate president. He is not answerable to the president or the judiciary.
He is only answerable to the house. If the house finds him worthy, he has no case to answer.
If the Senate becomes reasonable enough, they would ask him to step down as Senate president so he can defend himself as a floor member of the house and not as the Senate president.
The implication is that if he is found guilty, there won't be another proceedings to impeach him. He looses his Senate president position and risks suspension and expulsion from the Senate like Patricia etteh of the house of reps.

As long as there is no ambitious senator to demand that he step down for investigation, he remains untouchable. Not even the president can do anything about it unless the president want to risk being impeached by Akpabio controlled National assembly.

Evidence in the public brings justice in the court? Funny you. Only the court can define if evidence is true or not. Many people still asking for evidence in the public will deny the validity of the same if she shares it in the public. Note that I don't mean to agree that she has evidence though.

I once learned that, the abscene of evidence is not evidence of its abscence.

When people bellow “show evidence” I ask, how? Do citizens wield that much power to force institutions into releasing private information?

Ex. If my life is threatened on nairaland and the culprit deletes the post, I can only rely on the techies operating the backend to provide me evidence of what transpired.
Same with a rape victim, only doctors and DNA experts can provide evidence.

Neither Natasha nor Akpabio should have to fabricate evidence if the system works well. An independent investigator should look for forensic evidence in support for or against. Starting with call logs from telecom companies to retrieved video recordings at stated locations.

We can’t continue choosing ignorance in the midst of knowledge. Citing the lekki toll gate incidence, the place was never exposed to forensic investigation despite well corroborated reports.

The president can not do anything about Akpabio. The worst he can do is to sponsor a revolt in the Senate. Even buhari with his majority APC senators could not handle Saraki.

The Senate has the power to tell the president to go home and rest if they institute an impeachment. But the president can not remove the Senate president.
The Senate president can only be removed by the Senate . So the only thing the president can do like Obasanjo did is to instruct the senators to impeach him. But Obasanjo has so much power being a former military head.
Tinubu can not offer the senators the benefits they are receiving from Akpabio.
