For me; I don't see anything special in our so called Obas of our generation again. We are giving them regards because our culture requires us to do so which we can't denounce.
They've even bastardized our culture because of politics and religion all for selfish interest. Turn themselve to politician's errand boys King. They've lost their values. I respect Oba not because of his personalities but throne he occupy.

I don't mean to offend you o, that's just my
personal opinion.

You can never understand how wide the culture of the Yorubas is. Yorubas is a diverse ethnicity that transversed the continent of Africa. I guess you aren't Yoruba or even if you are, you aren't a depth knowledgeable Yoruba. Yorubas aren't just such people that Japa or those that migrated for economic reasons. Yorubas are indigenous of so many countries such as Americas consisting of USA, Dominican Republic, Cuban, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Etc......also in Africa, Yorubas are indigenous to countries such as Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Liberia, etc.....Yorubas aren't limited to Nigeria alone unlike other tribes in Nigeria. It's only Yoruba, Hausa and Fulani that have a global representation ethnically.

Now, let me explain briefly to you. All those Yorubas widely dispersed all over those countries I mentioned and more, their ancestors were carried away as slaves between 15 to 18th Century by the Europeans and were distributed to all those countries. Mind you, it wasn't only Yorubas that was carried away as slaves then but other tribes too but the Yorubas among them decided to retain their culture, their language and the manner of worshipping such as Ifa, Obantala, Iyemoja etc.... the Yorubas kept their culture intact and infact started practicing their cultures in those diverse areas and even blended it with the culture of those countries they were taken to. For example, in the US, the people that formed Oyotunji were descendants of Yoruba slaves that still remembered that they are Yorubas and still want to be known as Yorubas and also practice the culture. That's the reason they got some large hectares of land to create Oyotunji Kingdom in the fashion of the bigger Kingdom of Oyo Kingdom in Nigeria. They have always shared communication and guidance with the motherland/fatherland in Oyo, Nigeria. The same things is also applicable to other areas where they have Indigenous Yorubas as a tribe. Incase you need more understanding, please read the history of the Yorubas in America's and the world at large....
And who told you other didn't retain their culture? Oga park well and stop this superiority game here.

The Ooni of ife's consistent manner of approaching people for handshake puts him in position to be disrespect. If you get to an event wall to your sit and sit down, you are supposed to be the king of the yoruba nation. Stop walking to up to people to stretch out your hands for handshakes.
ooni is not the king of yorubas his the chief priest of yorubas gods before awolowo elevated his position he started seeing him self as a king, awolowo caused the same problem in warri by calling olu of itshekri olu of warri

I dey laff. Last born among seven siblings dey claim pre-eminence over his six older brothers , even his father's throne! See King wey get big hand in the selling off of Yorubas as slave due to countless invasions and wars against towns that refuse to fall in line . Na that one dey claim Yoruba foremost King wey dem dey shout "iku, baba, yeye" . Thank God for the whites who subjugated the kingdom of wicked God Kings and their terrible Yoruba kakanfo general.
So now we should opine that the Alaafin throne by tradition is greater than the popo, sabe, ketu ilesha, ila kingdoms of his elder brothers who were Kings before Oranmiyan became the first oyo king !
Or we should say Alaafin is greater than the ooni throne founded by his father oduduwa who had made kings of five older children before he SENT Oranmiyan to found the first Benin Monarchy . So now the
one sent by his father is now demanding subjugacy from his father! Alaafin! and your elder brothers in Sabe, Ketu, ila et al are watching while you denigrate your father's throne like this . Shall we say it's okay for the seat of po
wer held by your son in Benin to disrespect and usurp you as you have done to the throne that gave birth to Yoruba Kings that includes you !

When will this age long supremacy battle between Ọọni and Alaafin end. To my own believe both of them hold different positions according to Yoruba heritage and history, Ife was known as spiritual headquarters of Yorubaland while Ọyọ was known as political headquarters of Yorubaland.

Well, in my opinion... this supremacy issue is thrash and rubbish.
So, let me speak about courtesy... 'A fellow high ranking king walked over to greet you; courtesy demands you stand to greet him in return as a fellow high ranking King'

But, we are in Nigeria where we like proving supremacy either in a subtle way or otherwise.

This is not only peculiar to the Yoruba kings...
You're right. It's basic courtesy.

The Ooni of ife is not a monarch .why is this dificult for non historians to understand .He is the chief priest of the yoruba people ,he is no monarch
Mr know all. Thesame chief priest that oyo founder (oranmiyan) had to leave his oyo to become ooni in Ife just to claim oduduwa stool. Even oba of benin and other oranmiyan senior brothers who became king senior Alaafin too. Alaafin is only relevant in oyo Yoruba but doesn't not command respect in other lukumi sub ethnics such as Egba,Ijebu,Ekiti,Ondo ,Okun,Ilajes itsekeris etc.
Mind you it was British and Ajayi crowther that used Yoruba for all. Oyo people are only meant to be called Yorubas. We Ekiti like other lukumis know ooni as our leader not self acclaimed Yoruba monarch called alaafin.

Ile Ife is bigger than oyo town. Ile if has two local government with a voting population of almost 80,000

Oyo town has no local government on its own with a voting population of just 15000

See them claiming ownership to a place in far away USA. If some other tribes lay claims to a land in southwest now, they’ll want to bring the entire country down.

I don’t know where in history was it written that either Oyo or Ife ever conquered a land in the USA for one monarch to lay claim to such.
imagine laying claim to a land in another man country. Just that dem say Lagos na no man's land, Yoruba people dey cry

Heard it's a culture, not a refusal. i read that the tradition doesn't allow the Alaafin to stand up to greet anyone once he's seated. If he's not seated, he can greet anyone.
Will the Alaafin sit down and greet the president Tinubu or even Osun state governor.

The Ooni is the Father to the Alafin and every other Yoruba monarchs.

And normally, any child that has no respect for his father in Yorubaland is a bast@rd.

Even the Bible says honour your parents so that your days will be long.

So any child who don't honour his/her parents will d!e untimely.

If the fight between the two monack is messy, then good.
If it becomes messier, then better.
They should stop this petty disgraceful rivalry.
The world has gone far in advancement.
They should leave behind stone age civilization and free their subjects from defecatíng in the búsh.
