As for me, I won't live in a 3rd world country again. I will only jakpada when I'm over 80 years and I will return straight to my village to live the remaining part of my life until God calls.

But what I will never do again is to live permanently in a 3rd world when I'm still young.


Unfortunately, Nigerians don't have any interest in collective good and this is why I have no interest in living in Nigeria again when I'm still young, I don't want my children to have that mindset.

Diversification of assets just incase. Besides, we still visit Nigeria from time to time and I don't have issues with visits. However, living permanently where I'll become part of the system once again is where I have issues.
I have also asked myself if investing in assets in Nigeria makes sense but then as a Nigerian I think it is if it doesn't stop you from investing in assets in your new country. Besides, due to exchange rate favorability, I don't break any sweat in owning these assets

How long have you been in Japan? I’m surprised you plan to come back since I’m used to seeing you, Tensa, etc doom and gloom about the future of Nigeria (Islamisation, northern rule and civil war, etc).

Well, many reasons as I see the economy expanding in the next few years. The civil war can happen if the Islamisation trend continues (which I maintain my stance about). Northerners will always govern Nigeria, I don't think I kicked against that. For me, it is mainly the weather.

Mr Gerrard is correct. There's some reasons to be optimistic about Nigeria these days. Experience has shown that the MACRO environment is a key determinant of outcomes. So the gathering pace of SUBSIDY WITHDRAWAL is a very important factor in the Nigerian condition today. The government sector is shrinking, which means the private sector by default will present a lot of opportunity. No doubt there are Nigerians working hard and investing and reaping the profits right now as we are discussing it.

Anyone interested in Nigeria must not be enthralled by isolated reforms and miss the The BIGGER PROBLEM represented by the BASIC FRAMEWORK of the country. That's what happened to me when I did the Jakpada in 2011. That framework ensures that Nigeria will continue to retrogress in the long term when compared to other nations , especially those that were its peers around the 1960's.

Government still owns all land and can use that power to capriciously DESTROY any business for whatever reason. There's many other laws that also give government final say over the existence of any business. Some months ago, maybe in 2023, the Nigerian government seized most profits of commercial banks using a RETROACTIVE law.

Government still controls and sets the price of the naira. The formal term for this is CAPITAL CONTROLS.

Government is controlled by a party propelled by Islamist supremacy and steeped in the ideology of FEUDAL-SOCIALISM

A little diversion is in order here - this same issue of smaller reforms layered on top of a Communist foundation is why China will ultimately never surpass the Anglos generally in most terms of national competition. Yes, they're making progress in the medium term BECAUSE of their LIMITED free market reforms, but there remains an anti-human, slave oriented Communist ideology that controls everything. Failure is therefore guaranteed.

The cycle of migration in Nigeria proves the point. Some episodic reforms OR MARKET TRENDS will generate limited economic opportunity and thus optimism. Diasporans return. The middle class expands. After a little growth, the BASIC FRAMEWORK of a multi-tribal, unitary socialism asserts itself, destroys the economy and another mass exodus occurs. Rise, Dream, Fail and Repeat. 1950s, late 1970's, mid 1980s, 2007 to 2012, 2015 till now. Over and over. The lessons have accumulated and Nigerians, foolish as they are when it comes to PUBLIC concerns, are very wise on their PERSONAL welfare. For this reason, the vast majority of Nigerian migrants who moved to ANGLO-Western nations will NOT return permanently.

Another side note, I've been looking at some data for the past decade and relating it to what I observe in real life. The middle class has shrunk in both Nigeria AND the USA. Whereas most of those who exited the middle class in Nigeria FELL into poverty, most people that exit the middle class in the USA have been moving UP into the upper middle class. There's a systemic message in that circumstance....that's why the middle class of Nigeria tend to FLEE the country when the system asserts itself after a brief period of REFORM.
