In as much as the APC guy raised valid points, can he in all sincerity say this if the state government was being led by the APC? What advice has he given to Tinubu and his economic team about our economic free fall till date? I am very sure he's not about the masses. It's just politics to him. Meanwhile, someone should check on the Abuja backed Emir... |

The issue isn’t that some government and public officers buy cars worth millions or billions, it’s the hypocrisy of the same Nigeria’s public office holders. They’re quick to claim there’s "no money" when it comes to serving the masses, yet their lavish lifestyles tell a different story. Just recently, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike attended an event in a Rolls-Royce. And he’s not alone, this is the norm for most of our so-called "public servants." It makes you wonder: Is Nigeria truly a poor country? Because our leaders never miss an opportunity to flaunt their wealth. Wike, for instance, has held public office since 1999. Yet, no one bats an eye when he shows up in a Rolls-Royce well, unless, of course, it’s a borrowed car. How many leaders from countries that lend us money arrive at events in luxury cars like Rolls-Royces? The contrast is glaring. This country continues to disappoint. |

dedonfranco:The government can remove the Oba. It's a side effect of colonial rule whereby traditional rulers were in essence made subordinate to the secular authority. But most Obas since the last independent one have been largely neutral and basically don't mount opposition to the government so government leaves them in place |

dedonfranco:Does that make Oba of Benin a deputy to Almighty God? Or does he make him superior to Emir of Kano? The influence that Emir of Kano weighing today in Nigeria, Oba of Benin doesn't have 1/10 of it. |

Since the Emir is perceived as antagonistic towards the government of Mr Tinubu, and therefore a favourite of the anti-government people on nairaland who usually throng threads such as this to relentlessly launch invectives at people in government, the same people will not see anything wrong here. Many of them might view the thread but they will quietly leave and not comment. They can't bring themselves to criticise their own. It is all in line with the selfish and hypocritical 'dey for me, I dey for you' spirit. This is the Nigeria of today. |

With the level of poverty in KANO state, the emir wants 670m for his expensive life style. If people like VDM come out to condemn this, one Aboki will come out claiming to be the president of Northern youth to say he should apologize. It is well |

lazkizz:You are very correct, and Obi leads in that department. [quote author=NLCreator post=126854133]Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly. There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers. Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million. The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”. While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use. “Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said. “Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office. “So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.” Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future. https://www.thecable.ng/theyre-for-official-use-obi-defends-purchase-of-n160m-suv-for-lawmakers/amp ] |
