good afternoon my people,

I started a backyard poultry last christmas. I made some money not even to the breakeven point cos I lost some birds to hot temperature. early this year I purchased 10 chicks. I raised them in cage. unfortunately I lost 4 to ants. the cage was mounted by soldier ant (yoruba's call them Erun)

after waking up that morning I quickly went to check them because it rained over night. those ant move in squad. I have to kill them with petrol.

please how can i avoid this in future. because I'm planning to start in large quantity. we moving to our farm land soon and its surrounded with bushes

By making sure your environment is free from anything that will attract solider ants.

1. Practice clean environment
2. Use black oil - you can dip the 4 legs of your cage (wood or iron) inside plastic bowl and apply black engine oil/condom engine oil. This is the most avoidable option.
3. Insecticide - apply insecticide such as Rambo powder every 3 days.

Keep it clean no fruits especially should be littered around the poultry. Pour condemned engine oil round your poultry

What we do in our place. Trace their path into the bush. You might find their hill. Start the destruction from there. If you dont destroy them from there, whatever you do is a temporary relief. Burn down their abode. Dig into the ground and add fire. Surviving ones will move far away from your poultry.

By making sure your environment is free of ants but you did not give any idea of how to make sure you environment is free of ants so how does he do that

Any bird that cannot peck and gobble down ants isn't fit to live...

I rear birds too but strictly for Consumption purpose,make sure your environment is clean,

You could put sawdust on the cage floor and sweep every 2 days.

Use this method fess

Get some tablets of aspirin may be 10 tabs, soak them in a 1 litre water.

Get Caton of biscuits, those ones that smell very nice.

Soak the caton with the aspirin water then place the wet Caton in the sun to dry.

After dey thing done dry, place am for strategic points near your poultry.

Dem go invade am definitely.

They will eat and take some home to their queen. There is definitely a big ant mould somewhere around your location.

The queen will eat from the poisoned Caton definitely.

Once the queen dies, no more production.

They die a natural death and their population will reduce.

U can use a pesticide that contains Lambda cyhalotrin.

It will only reduce the workers. More workers will be born and trust me... Dem go fight u

Sugar+borax syrup
Mix 1 part borax with 3 parts sugar.
OR
peanut butter+borax
Mix 1 tablespoon peanut butter with 1 teaspoon borax.
OR
Sugar, Honey, and Borax
Mix 6 parts sugar, 1 part honey, 1 part borax, and 3 parts water

These mixes can be effective for killing the entire colony, as ants carry the bait back to the queen and larvae.

Repeat every two weeks until you don't see any trace of the ants

Apply pesticide such as cypermethrin once monthly near your surroundings
