The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been criticised for the statement on Peter Obi.

criticised the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, over his allegedly disrespectful remarks towards Nigeria’s past heroes.

Akpabio made the criticism during the valedictory session held in honour of the late Niger Delta elder statesman and former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark.

The criticism came barely 24 hours after Obi, while eulogising Clark, claimed that the labours of Nigeria’s past heroes had ultimately been in vain due to the numerous challenges currently facing the country, particularly economic issues.

“For someone like me who just participated in the 2023 general election, he (Clark) lived a life of courage, sacrifice, justice, and value. So why do we keep saying the labours of our heroes past should not be in vain? I’m happy that Jonathan is here.

“But I can tell you, their sacrifices are in vain. They have sacrificed for nothing. We were in this country when people protested when there was no need to protest under Goodluck Jonathan. Where are those protesters now? Have they disappeared?

Nigeria political journey is always characterized by warped sentiments.

Akpabio is very wrong to use that platform to throw a jibes at Peter Obi.

He has every right to disagree with him, using senate house platform is uncalled for and should be advised not to repeat the mistake.

Although I do not agree with the SP stating the facts that he made there on his seat as the No.3 person in the country, what he did may not be the priority, but they are still needed. We must understand that our needs are different. There are people whose life aspiration is to go on pilgrimage. To them, even if you build schools everywhere, it doesn't mean much. But they are also Nigerians/citizens who are equally important stakeholders.

The Stadium is of economic value... We have countries that spend huge fortune to use other nation's stadium to host matches. The livelihoods of those who worked and still maintain the stadium are also tied to it. Moreover, the hotels and other centres of commerce around the stadium would be a hive of huge economic activities when there are matches.

Additionally the residences for the governor and his deputy were equally important as many pay rent today.

And as for PO, I don't believe he can do much for Nigeria.

Vimbai was the most accurate analyst of the issue. Vimbai is an ex Big Brother Africa housemate for those who think the young people don't have sense.

She said, rightly so, that Akpabio shouldn't have used the Senate plenary, a scared place meant for proceedings on issues that affect Nigeria and Nigerians to respond to Obi. The Senators, if they are distinguished should be ashamed of how low the Senate has become for it to be abused by their elected leader. It's not about Akpabio or Obi, the Senate was disrespected by the Senate President.

Someone was asking who the best senate president was last week. I posted a video of David Mark asking his colleagues to avoid fighting and politics in the house. That was the last matured SP we had.

papyjaypaul:
The most mature of them will be David Mark. He was statesmanly. I don't know about best.

Watch this video of how he called the National Assembly to order to stop overheating the polity.

Cho-Cho-Cho Everywhere. The worst times in Nigeria's political history. Obi should reduce his volume small abeg. He's been talking too much lately. Where did he keep this side of him when he was Anambra Governor?

He should just stop talking completely in my opinion. He's always embarrassing himself and the State he represents. Shameful.

How did you expect opposition politics to be done? We heard worse before the current party came on board. It is just sad that so many individuals who were very vocal then have lost their voice, leaving only few to shoulder the moral burden.

The Government just don't want to walk their talk, and they talked an awful lot.

You're correct, as all the previous leaders have already done so much for Nigeria! PO can only make it worse ✔️

Btw those that want guns , weed, and prostitution legalized are also citizens and important stakeholders. Government should also take their happiness into consideration

Akpabio that is suffering from the diarrhea of the mouth. Someone who did not contest a primary election to become a senate president against the clear provisions of the law. The injustice you guys are entrenching in this country will not affect my family and friends negatively. Amen.
