My European girlfriend discouraged me from returning, she told me we should get married, I said no, I struggled for over a decade believing hardwork and merit in Nigeria will get me there. I was interviewed many times by several government agencies in Nigeria but never got the job, today I sit in my 40s licking my wounds. My naija friends that were friendly while I was there have vanished. Some have humiliated me before leaving when it seemed to them the tunnel I am in has no end to it. My biggest undoing in life is I believed too much in this country. Today, my peers that stayed back in UK are doing very well as citizens. I am trying very hard not to give up. Still strategizing. It's hard but deep down in me, I know I have learnt so much. Too much to not make it in the end. I pray for God to grant me long life.

It's not too late to retrace your steps back to the UK,you willingly came back so it's a plus to you. All you need to do is build your home ties that can be done.Don't let anyone deceive you that age is a factor in relocating.There is this colleague of mine came from Cote de voire last year he was 54,he worked eight months with the company through an agency and finally his hard work paid off he was offered a direct job with the company.He is 55 now has a brand new car etc and honestly he is doing well.Was speaking with him yesterday and he told me how much he has saved so far.It's not too late, yesterday is gone,forget it.Live for today because it will determine how your tomorrow will be.Look forward not back.

We have similar experience. I was on a scholarship in south Korea for my MSc in chemical engineering with good stipend then in 2019. I was told by my professor ( a Korean) that I should stay back and do business with him but I refused. My friends in Korea begged me not to leave but I didn't listen. I'm still working with government agency taking less than 200k as take home after tax.
I always cry anytime I remember this act. My still struggling to make it though by learning new things and even I tried to enter US last year November but my Visa was denied.
I put all my hope in Almighty Allah now sha.

You're never late bro. I remember one of my friends who secured his green card 4 years after entering US, the fastest I had seen. He approached me one day and said, I wish I was like you, who knew God from your youth, maybe I'd have gone far by now. He was already a believer by the time he got his green card. It was a miracle. There were people he met in the usa who have not gotten their yet, till today. He had lost lots of opportunities but God is restoring him already and gradually. Last December, he did house warming of his mansion in Nigeria.

Not knowing Jesus is a great loss cos they don't realise how big they've been missing out if fortunes and opportunities. Na by work pesin dey make am?

I don't think I have any mistakes to share..
All I've passed through in life, I consider as valuable lessons or say experience for me in the journey of life.

My own advice to the younger generation

1. Never walk in anyone's shadow.. don't say because your friend wants to do this, you must also do that same thing. Our paths in life are different.

2. Make hay while the sun shines.. grab opportunities when they come your way. Don't slack and do not procrastinate.

3. Be contented with what you have and hope for better days.. don't steal from others and don't take what doesn't belong to you just to get satisfied. There is no satisfaction with stolen goods, only curses.

4. Prioritize you own health, well-being and happiness.. you are the only one that can make yourself happy. If you rely on others to be happy, you'll always end up sad.

5. Last but not least.. no loose guard.. evil arrows are flying left, right and center. Pray and pray harder.

I worked for a while for an architectural consultancy firm, it folded up during Buhari's regime and I currently freelance as an architect. I just recently started investing in non architecture-related ventures in hope of building much wealth and venturing in the future into real estate.

This is 70% my story! Was also in the UK with scholarship up to PhD level! Foolishly came back to pick up a job in a federal university in Nigeria! The salary was paltry but I believed FG will fulfill its promises made to increase ASUU's salaries, and other allowances. Alas, none was fulfilled since 2013 till date. In 2020 and 2021 we embarked on a cumulative 20 months strike without salary! Not a kobo earned! Only God saw me through! My spouse wasn't working either! As if that was not enough, IPPIS was launched with inexplicable salary amputation every month! Throughout the job, I struggled to make ends meet with the miserable salary and lived a poverty stricken life. Nothing achieved in over 10yrs! I only recently borrowed money to japa! That country kills talents!

However my greatest regret remains not investing in bitcoin when it debuted in 2012 or so! Wish I poured my scholarship money into it and left it there all these years! My story would have been significantly different!

Dont marry for love, marry for value. And, one of such value is a woman that will give you peace. Not one to scatter your relationship with your mother. You can only marry against your mother's wish if it's confirmed your mum hates you.

My experience was a very bitter one. Met her in the University and tried forcing my mother to accept her. She gave birth and showed her true colours. She even told my mother her mission was to replace me with her child. Thank God for mother's prayers and fasting, I survived her.
Women are very very spiritual. They know more than they let us know they know. No man knows one woman better than another woman.
Trust your mum's intuition. Deep secret and knowledge is only natural for women. Never ever marry against her consent otherwise you might be walking into everlasting bondage.

NB: I'm not sure I support allowing your mum choose a wife for you either. Keep searching till you find one she's happy about so you don't live the rest of your life from one prayer mountain to another.

😓😓😓😓😓😓 Sending Mercy Akpos bags to her in Calabar that the relationship was over fter 5 years because of one Ashley i met when Mercy went home to see her sick mum. This Ashley claims she is from Chad unknowing to me that she is a diabolic prostitute and her mother got married to the man in Chad who isn't the owner of the Pregnancy when she was in her mother's womb.

Okay, because you asked I will tell you. Though I am from a humble background, I never knew failure. I excelled in about everything I tried. I was the best in the primary school, best in secondary, third best in university. Though my parents were not well to do, I aspired to study in UK and on my first trial, I got a scholarship! I won my MSc. scholarship four days after my NYSC POP. My UK supervisor told me to stay back and work with her while doing a PhD but I refused and came back. My problem was overconfidence in myself. I just believed I will get a good job in Nigeria without any challenge and after working a couple of years, I will go back for my PhD. After all, hings always work out for me. A long streak of success wrecked me.

Yeah! I traveled to study. MSc & PhD. My PhD Supervisor and friends begged me to stay back. A friend from India (my MSc classmate in UK) particularly encouraged me to move to Canada as he was equally planning to move to Canada at the time. He successfully relocated to Canada afterwards and kept in touch with me via Facebook calls and occasional phone calls - encouraging me to do Express entry. I didn't understand the process at that time (2017), and even if I did, affording the cost of IELTS (50k) was a herculean task, as my take home pay was nothing to write home about. I had less than 40k left to saddle all home front expenditure after deducting my car loan then. Things were HARD! I bitterly regretted the move! I couldn't run anywhere for help. I couldn't even extend any money to my poor parents every month. Bills accumulated and debts soon spiralled almost out of control. Inflation didn't help matters! I suffer no be small!
