People no wan gree say as people Dey fail STEM , na so people dey pass STEM with excellent grades.

It is the same in non-STEM too.

Make everybody do wetin favor them and make dem chop from the fruit of their labor .

Make person wey fest struggle to pass STEM no Dey talk say he go pass non-STEM exam he never prepare for before . E no Dey work that way .
I get your general point, but you mentioned earlier that some people are all-rounders. An all-rounder will tell you that a subject like Government is easier than subjects like Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry.

But the koko is make the student know what works best for him on how to study and assimilate each individual course

Definitely.

So your point is, while you agree that science courses are on average more difficult than social science/management courses, you don't think Ihebu would ace social science/management courses without preparation?
I have said it earlier that preparation is very key in passing any exam in whatever field u may find urself . Anybody who is assuming he will ace exams in another person’s field without adequate prep is on peak delulu

Generally, yea, but sometimes it depends on the exam and the format of the exam.

Exams that involve explanation would be difficult without some form of preparation, but for multiple choice exams, even without preparation, you can find some courses quite relatable and do fairly okay, and I believe that's what Ihebu meant.

You have a habit of renovating people’s speech and “saying what u think someone meant “. Person wey talk no put any qualifying words to say he was referring to multiple choice or theory exam.

He just felt because of his general knowledge of systems of government , current affairs and listening to news he would ace a subject called “Government “ . He attempted saw a glimpse of multiple choice questions and agreed he won’t ace it like he claimed earlier .

Why do u feel the need to still try to cling on to the possibility of him acing the exam ? 🤷‍♂️

If u sabi book , u sabi book. It has nothing to do with art ,science or commercial .

I won’t smash government in JAMB if u don’t study for it. Make una no Dey gas una sef up abeg . Neither will u smash economics .
A science student will smash Government and all those other nonsense courses with one day revision or just general knowledge picked up from radio, TV or suya wrappers.

As an example, I smashed A in GCSE Geography without opening book one day. Just from general knowledge and simple classroom attendance without any revision. Same with English GCSE. I mixed up the exam date, received a phone call from the Headteacher who said I haven't arrived for exam and he is sending an A Level student to my house to pick me up. Luckily my house was 5 mins drive from school. I arrived 30 mins late for a 2 hour exam, still finished 30 mins early and collected B with zero revision. Mind you till today I don't know difference between pronoun, adjective and adverb. I just know how words fit together. Same thing for English literature which I sparked with zero revision. The reading of the books in class was enough. The only subjects I studied for were Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and I sparked everything except French where I collected C.

There is nothing like all rounder. You only have science students who can do non-STEM courses with their eyes closed, while non-STEM students go dey Cho Cho Cho. Even with non-STEM, the lawyers were great science students who only specialised toward law after finishing STEM at secondary school level to a high level

An Art student should finish Maths in Nigeria. Based on their scores in Maths, you can tell whether they have it upstairs or it's Cho Cho Cho

I'm willing to bet that STEM students score better in English than non STEM students

You can use these two subjects as control mechanism

Lolz .😂

So who told u art and commercial students don’t pass maths and English excellently well as much as their science counterparts ?

U can only speak for urself and the people u know . The science students in my set still respect me till date. E get reason why. I made my O’levels writing GCE in SS2 while they called it their own first attempt which they made some papers and didn’t make some . They either had D7 in English or Maths making their result incomplete .

You people should just stop generalizing based on ur personal experiences .

Speak for yourself. We know how far on average

E get reason why those in class A from JSS 1-3 ended up as Science students in Senior secondary while those in classes B-D in Junior secondary starting forming Art student in Senior Secondary

I don't know how your school separated students on ability but we know ourselves right from JSS 1 based on class A to D system

I would argue there is no good science student that won't pass Arts courses well with one night revision. Not a single one.

In my time, I believed that knowing Maths and calculation is the test of being smart

Reading lengthy notes is a test of endurance. Many of us don't have the patience to read long texts without getting distracted

In science class na the girls wey no go too like Maths dey plenty for Medicine and Pharmacy

Plus growing up doctors in Naija no dey make money like that, they are usually portrayed mostly civil servants working in state hospitals while Engineers are those who worked in Shell and co

It was bad that some medical graduates were seeking jobs in banks

If to say I know that later in life especially for Yankee medical doctors go be Odogwu i for develop myself to the resilience to read and have a longer attention span for long texts
Nigeria has many substandard secondary schools as well where you are only as good in math as your math teacher is competent. Many math teachers are frustrated and don’t bother to teach with emphasis.

They often select a few students who are overzealous and focus on them.

Lol dey play.

You think Medicine is only Biology?

Biology is only 100 level, and it carried the same weight as the Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry we did. Some people were kicked out at that point because they struggled in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.

Then we did Biochemistry and Pharmacology at the other levels and then some high-volume courses that make secondary school Biology look like nursery rhymes.

Question - How do we raise our kids to have aptitude for mathematics?

I believe it's the bedrock and foundation for STEM courses and would want my kids to do STEMs.

Me, I was average in it and wifey though a first class & distinction graduate read sociology.

Though its early days, my 6-year old in Basic 2 is already showing a dislike for it and grumbles whenever its time to do Maths home work.

In my school u write JSCE set by Lagos state ministry of education in JSS3 and that is what they normally use in determining what department to place students in Senior secondary class.

They don’t just ship people JSS3 A to science class in SS1 . That is why I kept on telling u to stop generalizing .

If you read a Radiologist report on a scan, you will know you don't know Biology

Simple case of scanning your knee to discover the extent of cartilage damage, you will think the Radiologist report will be easy to assess until you start to read grammar and terms wey you no understand. Eventually you will have to let the Orthopod interpret everything that nigga wrote.

Nobody ship anybody to science class. In my time we all choose our specialisations and the A class students all choose Science while the dunces in B-D choose Arts. Even the smartest nigga in my class that knew he wanted to become a lawyer chose Science, and he is a lawyer now.

He is probably talking about secondary school biology, not the Anatomy and Physiology that sent 3 of my classmates to Yaba left.

Well, I my time nobody lets u decide ur specialization in JSS class when u’ve not been tested to know where u would actually fit in as per ur performance .

It’s in Senior secondary class the talking specialization came into the picture . We clearly studied under two different education system .
