I Left Nigeria in my mid 20s, completed my MSc with a fully funded scholarship in UK, the son of poor naija civil servants o! Used my two legs to come back to Nigeria. My European girlfriend discouraged me from returning, she told me we should get married, I said no, I struggled for over a decade believing hardwork and merit in Nigeria will get me there. I was interviewed many times by several government agencies in Nigeria but never got the job, today I sit in my 40s licking my wounds. My naija friends that were friendly while I was there have vanished. Some have humiliated me before leaving when it seemed to them the tunnel I am in has no end to it. My biggest undoing in life is I believed too much in this country. Today, my peers that stayed back in UK are doing very well as citizens. I am trying very hard not to give up. Still strategizing. It's hard but deep down in me, I know I have learnt so much. Too much to not make it in the end. I pray for God to grant me long life.

I regret not taking my late dad's educational advise to switch to university education after my OND programme. I insisted on going for my HND because I wanted to graduate fast and then run fast with life. Unfortunately, that wasn't meant to be.

Great career building opportunities as job slots came my way but because I didn't hold a B.sc qualification but HND I lost the slots.

Not having B.sc deprived me the one great opportunity to fulfil my dream of becoming a pilot cos as at then I got an opportunity through my uncle-an aeronautical engineer to join bristow helicopters and be trained to become a rotary wing pilot at their flying school at ibadan, (no expense on me) but I was disqualified as only B.sc graduates were needed and I had HMD qualification.

Thank God today that I am not doing bad for myself, God in his mercy redirected my path career wise and things are always looking up for me.

At 40s...your energy will be dropping drastically... It's only your money/experience or knowledge will work for you. Physically, you are depreciating very fast and should be talking of retirement. No giving up... My own too I was stupid during my active years but I coupling back

Okay, because you asked I will tell you. Though I am from a humble background, I never knew failure. I excelled in about everything I tried. I was the best in the primary school, best in secondary, third best in university. Though my parents were not well to do, I aspired to study in UK and on my first trial, I got a scholarship! I won my MSc. scholarship four days after my NYSC POP. My UK supervisor told me to stay back and work with her while doing a PhD but I refused and came back. My problem was overconfidence in myself. I just believed I will get a good job in Nigeria without any challenge and after working a couple of years, I will go back for my PhD. After all, hings always work out for me. A long streak of success wrecked me.
