Ibusa is the same as Igbuzor. Ibusa corrupted form by the British from its original name Igbuzor.

Igbuzor has prominent sons namely: ex Senator, Barr. Peter FNwaoboshi the indefatigable Prof Patrick Utomi, founder of the Lagos business school, Professor Fidelis Oditah and Mr Peter Okocha a shipping magnate popularly known by his business name Crismatel, Obi (Prof) Chike Onwuachi, etc.

Igbuzor is an enjoyment town with great musicians like Ogbogu Okonji, Agility Okonji, Nwanze Nwabuwa (AKA Nwanze Nwagbodi) and Uche Nwalama. You go dance tire. Ogbogu Okonji by far remains the most prominent of them all, as one his songs has been played all over the nation for many years in clubs, restaurants, hotels, homes, etc.

What about football? They had Kingsley Obiekwe, a 1996 Atlanta Olympic Gold medalist in football; the late Peter Anieke of the Green Eagles; Emmanuel Olisadebe who naturalized and featured for Poland in 2002 and 2006 editions of the FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Igbuzor is a place for enjoyment every weekend. No end to enjoyment since I knew the town. Now they have grown covering both sides of the highway leading to Ogwashi uku. Land no cheap there o. Admiralty university by the Navy is situated in Igbuzor. There’s peace, safety and security in Igbuzor.

Igbuzor people, I hope say I don introduce una small here. Make una clap for me o.
How come u know so much about Igbuzor and u aren't even from there?

Nice one. It is also said that the original name was “igbo e bi n’uzo” meaning Igbos that live by the road as it is believed that igbo settlers that came into Asaba were given the area to live but they expanded and started to intermarry, thus influencing language and culture. That’s why the Aniocha people and the Onitsha people believe that they are not Igbos (as read in the memoirs of late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe) and is evident in their cultural heritage.

Did you enjoy the narrative? Are you from Igbuzor?
I love the history of Anioma people as a whole, which includes the Ukwuanis. I can discuss it the whole day. They are great people. Very friendly, easily forgiving, enjoy their dance, their music, pounded yam and nsala. Very great people. The whole of the SE is a beauty in culture, tradition and enjoyment. Next I may talk about marriages and Christmas celebration. The church plays a very prominent role in these matters.

A Memorable Visit to Ibusa: Pope Leo XIV's Connection to St. Augustine's Catholic Church

- Emeka Esogbue

In 2016, Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, visited Nigeria as the Prior General of the Augustinians, specifically stopping at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Ibusa. Established in 1898 during the Ekumeku War, this historic church holds a special place in the community.

The church's founding story is fascinating to Anioma historians. After Ibusa chiefs opposed British missionaries, Obi Egbune, the Obi of Issele-Uku accepted the British offer in his community, leading to Ibusa's eventual surrender because Ibusa mercenaries had the intention to fight on the side of Issele-Uku. Rev Fr Carlo Zappa's appeal to establish a mission in the community, paved the way for St. Augustine's, the community's first and largest church which though has been knocked down and severally restructured to give it a look outside the original form.

Given this history and importance in Anioma Nation, it is no surprise that Robert Prevost, as Prior General, visited St. Augustine's. During his visit, he likely provided spiritual guidance, ensured the community stayed true to its founding principles, and strengthened ties with other Catholic organizations and the Vatican.

As Prior General, Pope Leo XIV's role involved high-level leadership, promoting unity and faithfulness within the Augustinian Order. His visit had a lasting impact on the Ibusa community, and his spiritual legacy continues to be remembered. Even as he is now Pope Leo XIV, Bishop of Rome and spiritual leader of the worldwide Catholic Church, his connection to Ibusa remains significant and the Catholic faithful in Ibusa are glad of his presence.

Asaba man, when you leave Asaba passing under Koka bridge, you are heading first to Igbuzo, next Edo Ogwashi, next is Ogwashi uku kingdom, Ubulu uku, with Ubulu uno the left after the garage, etc, continue until you turn into Agbor/Umunede and Benin highway. Abi you no know road?

When you turn right from the same Koka bridge, you are heading to Okpanam, Isele Azagba, Isele Uku, Onicha Ugbo, Agbor, all shortened until you get to Benin.

When you turn left at the same Koka bridge, you are heading to Okwe, Oko junction, Niger bridge into Onitsha.

Behind Asaba, you have other communities like Ugbolu, Ilah, etc.

You sure say you be Asaba man? No go follow for people wey dem dey point their family mango or orange tree to after many years of absence o. Me wey no be Delta man come know your area pass you. Why na?

Looks like some people are trying hard to push a narrative and calm the black Catholic people since a black Pope hasn't been elected!
By throwing pictures of the new pope with black guys around we will feel less pained by the situation!
Over 250 popes later no black man qualifies...strange!

DID YOU KNOW? New Pope Leo XIV visited Nigeria in 2016

Pope Leo succeeds Pope Francis, who visited several African nations but never Nigeria during his papacy.

As Catholics worldwide welcome Pope Leo XIV, a lesser-known detail about the new pontiff has emerged: his visit to Nigeria nearly a decade ago.
Then known as Bishop Robert Prevost, the American-born clergyman travelled to Abuja in 2016 as part of his work with the Order of St. Augustine.

The visit marked a historic milestone for the religious order.

“For the first time, General Chapter of the Order of St. Augustine on the African continent — Abuja, Nigeria,” read a translated caption from a 2016 photo posted on Pope Leo’s X (formerly Twitter) account.
