Wealth, prosperity and God's blessings are spread all over, not only in Lagos.

Lagos isn't for the weak... I moved my family out of Lagos after my two-year rent expired in Akoka. We moved to Abeokuta, and rented a three-bedroom flat for #240,000 naira per year for 5 years. Compound was large, gated, enough parking space, each flat with its own water storage tank with central borehole. I paid #650k per year in Lagos without these amenities like in Abeokuta.

After 5 years I moved into my own 6-bedroom apartment in a GRA in Abeokuta. My wife got a government job, and she easily does her side-gig which earns her extra. Of course, I had other enablers that I wouldn't have in Lagos cos I'm from Abeokuta. Children's school fees are not crazy like you have in Lagos. No traffic! No agbero wahala... Environment is clean and spacious...

I still work in Lagos anyway but I come home every weekend. I am lucky to find a place to stay for free in Lagos. For me, Lagos is the worksite while Abeokuta is home where I retire to by the weekend to rest, relax, breathe fresh air and eat fresh food...
I have a big compound to plant stuffs and feed my family. My children are growing in the right way, and not the insanity and insecurity that pervades Lagos...

Lagos is artificial....

I hope someone will learn from my experience, and adapt it to what suits him or her.

There is prosperity all over o. Find out what works for you and start now... No die for Lagos... There are abokis up north who are illiterate and will never have anything to do with Lagos. Yet they are super-millionaires... They do and grow their businesses up there in the north...

Even abroad, it's the same story with those who want to die in London instead of moving to other cities where they can live their lives in peace and balance
Life is not all about making the money, some like the city life, it's a premium experience.

I agree with you. That market that Lagos has, other commercial cities like onitsha, Kano and aba has it.

What gives lagos an edge in seaport. People talk about PH seaport. They are limits and type of goods that you can import from PH seaport. But Lagos seaport. You can import everything.

All seaport in Nigeria are not equal due to FG policy.
This is the problem

I got a training opportunity with an oil and gas firm in Lagos sometime in 2019. I resigned my job in Abuja and moved to Lagos.

Our office was in Ajah. So I got a place around Lakowe. One weekend I decided to check up on my cousin staying at Alapere. I spent the weekend at her place and headed back to Ajah on Monday around 2pm.

We got to the Landmark center axis around 3pm or so.. There was a crazy gridlock on that Lekki-Epe expressway.

I sat down at the back and held on to my bag firmly. Three hours later, we didn't move 300 meters. Passengers kept dropping one after the other, I thought they had either gotten to their bus stop or maybe were hanging around for the traffic to ease.

6pm or so we were around Jakande.. I noticed an exodus of people trekking... and almost all the buses were empty, while others were looking for the easiest way to turn back.

That was when it dawned on me that all the people I saw walking by were actually passengers that alighted from buses and were trekking back home... Omoh!

I jumped down from the bus, and joined the exodus of people happily cruising their legediz Benz to their respective destinations.

I got to Ajah bridge around 9pm, crossed over and got one Orijin bitters, crossed back and located the nearest transport company.. That was GUO.. I bought a ticket for the first bus heading to Abuja the next day.

That was how I ended my training with the firm.

Lagosians are very patient and resilient people!
Now this is hilarious 🤣

Lagos is the most chaotic slum in Africa.

I can't live in Lagos, even on a rent-free apartment.

City life is good but one should be able to afford it comfortably without much struggles. All of us will not live in the city and all of us will not live in the village or suburbs...

2.) Enugu, Enugu state

Is a lie. I disagree with you.

They are importers and businessmen in Onitsha, Aba, Nnewi, Kano, etc that are making it big.

These cities are commercial and industrial and also have a big market.
In terms of commerce and industrialization, Lagos comes first in West Africa (arguably)

Trend is the same in most places.

New York na madness but many won't leave for anything whereas their mates are living like kings in Texas, Georgia and even parts of Arkansas, Tennessee, or Oklahoma. Same with London vs other UK cities.

I said some...am a strong advocate for people staying in the states they are from, so we maximise our agricultural potential, create more wealth, of course you can always visit the city to enjoy its perks. Visibly there are a lot of people in Lagos, who are not productive, it's all about productivity...if you can be productive in your state of birth by all means it makes more sense to stay there or go elsewhere where you will be more productive.

If you have stayed 5 years in Lagos and have still not made it Big...... Then relocate back to your State, city or village..

Your Breakthrough is definitely not in Lasgidi

Many have relocated and they blew less than a year of Relocating.
I spent more than 5 years before getting my bearings in Lagos..Lagos got me after coming for vacation when I was 10,their were lots of interesting places to visit unlike the city I was being raised. I quickly became independent and moved to Lagos on my own. It was tough but worth it. A time when people were still humane and accepted you as their own

Lagos is like the UK that will give you huge income with the right hand and snatch it with the left hand through tax and expenses. Ever since I moved to Ughelli in Delta State, my income and black tax has improved a lot.

I left Lagos in 2016 when the centre could no longer hold. I relocated to a village in Ondo state to start farming even though I used to be the Chief Internal Auditor in one popular pharmaceutical company.

Today, I'm a proud cocoa farmer and I earn far, far more than what I used to earn in Lagos.

My kind of success is what I may never have been able to achieve in Lagos State.

I was born and bred in Lagos where I lived for more than 30 years in Nigeria. My everything was in Lagos to the extent that even when I traveled to other states in Nigeria, they are never enough for me. But in Lagos, it's all a comfortable zone for me. And now, I realize that living in Lagos had really helped me to prepare myself for the task ahead to being able to live here in Los Angeles. Almost same way of life. Here is just like living in Lagos.

So the village where the person lived all his life and never made it is where you are advising them to return to, this your advice is from the pit of hell.
I know some persons that did exactly like he said and few years into their return from Lagos to their village they are balling.

I was personally involved in the case of a mutual friend, dude has his own thriving business and now married just within 3 years or returning to his village.

You guys should think before spilling out whatever nonsense that comes to your mind due to lack of exposure.

Moving from Lagos to a cheaper city is worth it. I did it, so I am talking from experience. The cost of living is a lot cheaper. And you don't spend hours in traffic. Life is easy and you can now have extra savings.

In your Abeokuta, you will be static(no channels for avenues to market your values). Abeokuta is good for peace of mind. But na peace of mind go expand your ideas?

Lagos has that spark or vision of seeing endless routes for integrating with your life missions. The streams are there, but its not an easy road.

People may not be happy in lagos, but their minds are blissful, knowing that they can get profits or engagements(productivity) for their stay there!

What do you mean by "mega big boy?"
GloriousGbola:
for me - no

far more opportunities in lagos

also, lagos gives me far more variety when sourcing for anything from groceries to electronics to computers

go to most of these civil service towns and the big stores are selling goods that are obviously low quality fakes.

i was in a top store in ilorin years ago and the toys they were selling are what you buy in traffic.

what you will outrightly reject in lagos and tell the guy bring the original is the only fare in most of these towns

then all you have for internet are mtn and co. fibreone, switch, spectranet - not available

and if your tv, or pc or soemthing spoil it is one local champion who may not know what he is doing who is your only option

on the flip side, rent, land , food, women and social mobility are cheap.

if i was living in ilorin, i would likely be a mega big boy

The bolded caught my attention!

So you trying to say, people who move away from lagos to those other less economy cities or states are deceiving themselves, because one will still struggle to make that 80k income in lesser cities/towns which is also equivalent to 250k in Lagos!
Is it not just better to remain in lagos!
Originalsly:
Anywhere in the world .... the more cosmopolitan the city the more expensive it will be ...the closer you move to the heart of the city the more expensive it will be. The farther you move from the heart the less expensive it will become. N250K job in Lagos may afford you the same standard of living as an N80k similar job in a quiet city. It sounds nice to move from Lagos for financial reasons ... affordability and savings .... but depending on one's lifestyle ...it can be same as imprisonment... boredom and quietness limited convenience can gang up and drive you out of town and back to the Lagos. To each his own ...one man's meat is another man's poison ....Lagos is not for everyone.

Your village is in Lagos?
wunmi590:
Spot on....

I want to use my family as an example, I'm married to an Oyo woman, so she works there in a government establishment, but I work in Lagos and live in my family house, during festive period, when they visit my place in Oyo, between a day, they would start complaining that the place is dull, by 3rd day, they have carried their bags and leave..

If not for job, I would have moved far away from Lagos, despite the fact that, I'm from there, I'm even from the island ooo, the most chaotic area in Lagos 😆 🤣 😂
