Nothing would work like a functional system. Something similar to China's.

1. Corruption and embezzling public funds should come with steep and the harshest punishments.

2. For it to happen, the judiciary has to be truly independent with its own purse. Right now an Umo Eno, Otti or Sanwo-Olu or Ododo has got his state's judiciary in his pockets while offering them public charity with our patrimony like he's doing them a favour a la brand new cars at intervals instead of such being constitutionally guaranteed regardless of the Governor's caprices. Most cases get quashed at the state level.

3. For the judiciary to work, the security apparatus has to work. The police, NSDC, and the Army are under the thumbs of the elites.

4. The Freedom of Information Act which GEJ passed into law should be executed across all strata. I have written to and walked into MDAs demanding certain information, including the expenditure on Ibom Air and the 21-Storey Smart Building Former Gov. Udom oversaw and it's been bureaucratic redtapes impeding me.

5. The 2018 Perpetual Injunction Nigerian state governors had the puppet judiciary place, barring us the citizenry from knowing the expenditure of security votes given to them has to be lifted. But that would only happen with a somewhat independent judiciary with its own purse.

In 2019, Ortom of Benue State got #31 billion as security votes alone yet insecurity was rife and we as citizens couldn't probe what he did with it. Udom got #21.6 billion but I can't get the breakdown.

Once we figure the five issues out, me are certainly on our way to the Nigeria we dream of. We've been dreaming for so long it feels so elusive now.
Sorry I'm just seeing this.
You've mentioned factors that have to be put in place for Nigeria to work. And these are good factors which if implemented will certainly help move Nigeria forward. But you'll noticed that I asked what the ordinary masses can do within their power to effect these changes.

Institutional reforms, judicial reforms, security reforms can only be carried out by the politicians, one's which we have seen are entirely.ade up of the elite, now, what can the ordinary masses do to effect change?

On this issue of STEM Vs non-STEM, I've shared it here before.
STEm is simply higher than non-STEM. Some bros here might disagree though.
I studied a STEM course(maths), some years later, took UTME and now studying the social sciences(Psychology). I cannot even lie, the difference is as clear as daylight.
Despite the fact that I was much younger, had no responsibilities and had sponsors, I had to study a whole LOT to get decent grades whereas in this Psychology, where responsibilities choke, trying to hustle, I'm basically crusing and still perform well.

I had to take my class tutorials in Stats on topics like correlation, regression etc-topics they find very difficult and looks like Greek to them- whereas, these are just basic in maths.

The difficulty level for both(STEM & non-STEM) are miles apart, abeg.
A simple way to judge this is to check the courses and career paths chosen by top JAMB (UTME) and WAEC (WASSCE) scorers in Nigeria. The majority chose STEM/quant-based courses.

The data is clear. Anyone who disagrees should provide a stronger and data driven argument.

To add, a one-time BGS from Federal University of Markudi, whose story got on Nairaland front page, dropped out of Physics in his third year to study Philosophy and made a first class. Afterwards, he became a pastor.

My son is the exact opposite of yours and I was recently having this conversation with a friend.

He is extremely good with numbers, spatial reasoning and numeracy.

Many times when he does his home work, we will be looking at those diagrams together and before me who is an adult figures it out, my 6 year old son knows what to do. He has never scored below 100 in any numercy exam. Whether it is maths or quantitative reasoning.

When it comes to verbal, he just leaves it and waits for me to tell him what to do.

I wonder why he can't just transfer the math skills to verbal.
It's actually my daughter & first born.

Not that she's bad in maths, her position in it last term was 5th with 93%. I just want her dislike for the subject to be nipped in the bud and for her to develop genuine interest in it. Not grumbling and telling me, "daddy I'm tired", when we never even do half of the maths & quantitative assignments.

On the other hand, she's very good in English, Verbal aptitude, Reading, Comprehension and other subjects.

I will do as suggested here, and download binge episodes of Numberblocks from YouTube for her to be watching. Hopefully, that will pique her interest and make her like maths.

My daughter can recite 2 to 12 times table. But if you ask her randomly, say 9 x 7, she goes mute for seconds and one can literally hear her reciting the times-table in her head before answering.

I don't like it. How can the timetable be locked into her memory so she can answer instantaneously when asked?

It can be frustrating, however, from a clinical standpoint, I’d advise you to thread carefully, otherwise, you will worsen her desire to “like” math or any learning subject for that matter.

I’d advise focusing on helping her understand the fundamentals of calculations versus mastering the end product of a calculation. This is because those have shown to build stronger understanding of learning long term versus the short term. Make it a lot of fun in daily activities outside of her book. Also, be consistent and most importantly be very patient.

At 6, her ability to read very well and comprehend is a great indicator of a high IQ in the future, more than any other learning subject, including math. This because at that age, language development is critical to her overall learning ability.

If you have never met parents with children who can’t express themselves at that age or as toddlers, you have no idea what you should be grateful for.

When it comes to parenting, I am always very careful about giving opinions and that is why I stick to clinical approaches for the most part.

I've just come out of a conversation with a contact who is engaged in the Sahel, and the one piece of advise I have for the multiple Burkinabés from media, academia and civil society who are currently being contacted by the usual suspects to lend their vocal and intellectual support to the artificial anti-Traoré bandwagon that Paris and DC are putting together is this:

Remember that there is nothing special about you.

The same way they're reaching out to you and acting as if they respect you and your work, is the same way they've reached out to many of us across the sub-region. I promise you are not special to them at all. You're just useful. For now. The respect and reverence they are treating you with is the same affected "respect" they have bamboozled us with for 500 years, because they know that nothing gets a black man's pussy wet like receiving "respect" and "honour" from his European overlords.

They did the same thing in Nigeria between 2011 and 2015. Every squirrel, antelope, Aisha, Dipo, and Japheth who offered even the mildest criticism of Goodluck Jonathan was immediately carried aloft and paraded around as a champion of this and that by the oyibos. It didn't take them long to figure out that "Jonathan Must Go" was their ticket to what seemed like everlasting favours, treats, and funding from oyibo, and they all started unanimously pushing to oust the president that took Nigeria to #1 economy in Africa and 3rd fastest growing on the planet.

Many of these people didn't even dislike Goodluck Jonathan - they just saw that pretending as if Nigeria was being ruled by Pol Pot was their ticket out of poverty and obscurity. Some of them built this career grift in 24 months all the way from Twitter into Chevening scholarships, IVLPs, Mandela Washington Fellowships, speaking appearances in Taiwan, Canadian passports, etc etc. But those were only the lucky few. The vast majority of this demographic got discarded like a used pure water bag immediately the oyibos got their desired regime change.

Since they got their regime change, Nigeria has fallen off a cliff from #1 to #4 in Africa, losing over 60% of GDP in just 10 years. I will repeat that for emphasis. While other countries in Africa grew at 2-5% annually over the past 10 years, Nigeria SHRANK by over 60%, and you can now find Nigerians desperately searching for a better life in Burkina Faso, Algeria, Mali, Libya, Tunisia, Liberia, and even Niger which used to hold the title of "poorest country in the world." Most of the loudmouths who helped make this a reality have fallen back into obscurity and poverty.

Many of them are in their 40s and 50s now, and they're still busy chasing gigs and hunting for $1000 here, $2,500 there. A few of them did become puppet unicorns, but the vast majority are back to being absolutely nobody 10 years after they allowed foreign attention and dollars to override their natural caution and stampede them into the 2nd worst ever national mistake in Nigeria's history after the completely unnecessary civil war.

Many of them walk around in a constant state of confusion now, unable to understand why their lives are much worse nowadays, and the oyibos who seemingly cared so much about whatever they had to say between 2011 and 2015 are no longer answering the phone or replying messages. If you allow these same oyibos to inflate your egos and use it to push your mouths into parroting their narrative for their own geopolitical goals, the exact same thing will happen to you.

Before you allow the thirst for white people's validation and money to shape your responses to the questions they are currently deluding you with, just ask yourself this one question:

All those years when Burkina Faso was the deadest country on the planet and Blaise Campaore's regime was shooting Burkinabés dead in the street, where were all these bleeding heart white people? Why didn't they care then?

Why do they care about Ibrahim Traoré now? What is this REALLY about?

I read every word of this article, and for all his flaws, David is undeniably a man of culture.
History will be ruthless to those who conspired to take down GEJ, only to gift Nigeria the walking disaster that was Buhari.
They didn’t just fumble the bag, they lit it on fire and danced around the ashes. No amount of revisionism will clean that stain.
