UTME: 16-Year-Old Olamide Aderibigbe Scores 98% In Maths, 336 Overall by zero8zero(op): 6:04pm On May 11, 2025
A 16-year old candidate during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Olamide Aderibigbe scored 98 in mathematics.

Aderibigbe, a student of Starville International School, Jabi, Abuja, also scored 86 in Physics; 68 in English and 84 in Economics.

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, while giving a breakdown of the 2025 UTME statistics, noted that 12,414 of the over 1.9M who sat the UTME scored 300 and above, with only 4,756 scoring 320 and above.

Last year, out of 1.9 million candidates who sat the 2024 UTME, only 8,000 candidates, or 0.5 per cent, scored above 300 points in the examination.

The 2025 UTME results were officially released to the public on Friday, with over 1.5 million candidates scoring below 200, which is considered the average benchmark.

The UTME, which is scored over a total of 400 marks, tests candidates across four core subjects.

While the Use of English is mandatory for all, candidates are allowed to choose three other subjects relevant to their intended course of study.

Reacting to the performance data, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the results reflect the effectiveness of government efforts to curb exam malpractice.

Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday, Olamide’s father, Niran Aderibigbe, expressed gratitude to God over the result of his son.

“He hopes to study architecture in covenant university or the University of Ibadan.”

You can't even cheat anymore, if you know it, you know it and if you don't know it, you don't know it. WAEC has vowed to copy the system for next year, expect mass failure in WAEC next year. But I kind of like it, these young guys will get more serious and less addicted to social media.

Trust naija, with time they will game it. I doff my hat to jamb registrar, he is one step ahead of cheaters. If the next registrar is not as proactive as the current registrar, naija will game the system and return jamb centers to miracle centers.

If JAMB doesn't tell us, we'll tell ourselves, Mnesoma or not. It doesn't make sense hiding it just because of that incident. It even calls the credibility of the examination board to question if they cannot disclose results. It's like INEC saying they won't say who won because another politician claimed he won.

If they do CBT for WAEC, walahi that mass failure go too loud.

They better revise the criteria for Credit. Maybe na to change credit to less than 50.

WAEC will be making a grave mistake copying it. Nigeria does not have the infrastructure nationwide yet.. It will once again show the backsides of our failed politicians who refused to fund education, they are more interested in physical structures than systemic structure. It's their failure that makes ASUU keep going on strike. I don't even want to talk about NEPA. Our leaders are not even showing good morals at the moment. Corruption is now normal, morally and financially.

papyjaypaul:
So you are okay with the corruption in the school system. You don't know the damage this does until you go outside the country. Every normal country should not have examination malpractice as the norm. If our exams cannot be trusted, we are in trouble. Come to think of it, if you pass JAMB that you say is credible and fail postUTME that may be compromised, what problem does it solve? Corruption is a monster and we should treat it before it swallows us at all levels.

By the way, I agree with you. CBT exams make the students study harder especially for a country like Nigeria where people want to cut corners, however we must consider that we don't have the infrastructure. Fix light, give us power, increase the number of centers. These are infrastructural things you don't face in normal countries but on the other hand, kids today can't write so you still need the traditional method of writing. I will suggest WAEC makes the option questions CBT and the other part physical writing. This is 2025, we should have a question bank that can give 100 different essay questions to combat cheating. Cheating is not a Nigerian thing, in Algeria or one of those countries, I think the government had to ban internet for the school exams. Where Nigeria is on cheating is like child's play compared to India

98% in Maths and 68% in English. I totally believe this because I faced something similar. I think it is biologically impossible to score exceedingly well in both subjects.
