Saudi Woman Extends Hand To Trump For Handshake But Here In Nigeria, It's A No by nairavsdollars(op): 10:23am On May 13, 2025
US President Donald Trump is currently in Riyadh. In one of the videos at the airport, he shook hands with top Saudi officials including a woman

But here in Nigeria, our women don't shake hands with men, claiming their religion forbids it.

Do you know the Islam religion more than the Saudis?

I think it's about personal choices and I believe we should respect other people choices so long it's having no negative effects on us.
Your faith, your choice.

So the little girl in the first picture does not want to shake hands with the man?

It's the handshake that is your problem abi?

What we need to understand is that Islam is practiced across a wide range of cultures, and what’s seen in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, or Nigeria may differ in certain social behaviors while still being rooted in the same faith. A handshake, especially in formal or diplomatic settings, doesn’t automatically reflect the depth of someone's religious belief or lack thereof.

We do ourselves a disservice when we reduce faith to gestures alone. People live their values in many ways, through honesty, compassion, justice, and humility not just by whether or not they shake hands.

In Saudi Arabia, for instance, while many do hold conservative views, there’s also a recognition of diplomatic protocol and international etiquette, especially when dealing with heads of state. So a handshake in that context isn't necessarily a deviation from faith; it's often seen as a form of respect or obligation in formal settings. Saudi Arabia just allowed women in their Stadiums, that's nothing new in Kano where women have been watching Kano Pillars play for a long time.

In Nigeria, especially in northern regions, cultural norms often reinforce a stricter interpretation of religious practices. That doesn’t make one “more Islamic” than the other. It just reflects how religious expression adapts to societal values. In this video below, the Sultan even bowed to the Queen and shook hands with her. It's not something Muslims do normally.

So, it's less about who knows Islam better and more about how communities choose to live their faith within their cultural frameworks.

Not only Islam, Nigerians act like this even with Christianity... Carrying religion on their head more than their slave masters

I swear, you can never see me following any of these foreign religions.

The very idea that some people came with guns and bombs and slaughtered and forced my ancestors to do their bidding including abandon their African spirituality, is so repulsive to me, that the mere thought of picking up their wretched “holy books” fills me with utter disgust.

This is a very stupid, ignorance laden statement.
Islam is defined by the Quran and sunnah, not what one Saudi is doing, be educated.

Do you know the Islam religion more than the Saudis?
No one with one single brain cell would say this, like it sounds so stupid wallahi
