Scrolling on linkedin You had see 20 HR roles before you see one Microbiology opening. JSYK, HR is broken into other cores. So you might see headings like " Learning & Development Admin, Performance Manager, Benefits Specialist, Employee Relations". They are all HR roles. |

raumdeuter:Nope To dive into HR all I did was do the CIPM certification. Cost about 300k totally. Broken into 6 stages Once you have a first degree, you are automatically cleared of the first two stages Professional 1 & 2. The only perk is, If you have a social Science or arts?? you go straight into Advanced 1 & 2, while other disciplines have to do Intermediate 1 & 2 before meeting you at advanced. |

AbokiWam:Assuming I was a HR graduate, is there a 300K certitifcation available for me to work as a microbiologist, or as an Engineer or Doctor? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 5:42pm On May 13, 2025 |
Theflint1:This is you assuming that there are no HR jobs, which isn't true. All organizations make provisions for a Human resource department Not All make provisions for engineers or microbiologists |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 5:44pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:Not my point, I'm saying the way it was relatively easy for him to make that sort of career transition, can a HR professional make similar transition into STEM? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 5:46pm On May 13, 2025 |
Theflint1:You are making a career transition because you did not see a job. An engineering graduate in HR is because condition make crayfish bend Why should an HR person transition, when the job is readily available? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 5:53pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:This is a very simple point almost everyone understands except Theflint1. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 5:54pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:Where did you get the impression that HR jobs are readily available? Are there graduates of HR who have been seeking HR jobs but not able to find? Almost every job requires competition, Now competing with people who studied your course is one thing, but competing against every graduate is another thing So wat advantage do you get by studying HR when everyone can just put head |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:00pm On May 13, 2025 |
BlueRayDick:The issue of STEM graduates transitioning is not a thing of pride. It shows that Nigeria has a problem of providing jobs for the STEM INCLINED Yes, STEM candidates can easily switch, and that is because there are no jobs for them, not because they want to. Nigeria is not a producing nation, and that is a big hindrance for the STEMs. Most pharmaceutical companies import their drugs. They would have a robust Account, HR, Sales and Marketing dept. But maybe na 10 pharmacologists fit they there Elizade that sells Toyota; How many automobile engineers dey there? But Account department fit reach 200 staff. The argument shows the shortcomings of STEM in Nigeria, rather than how versatile the field is. |

raumdeuter:Anyone who can pass gre will kill gmat The first point of culling is the aptitude test. Unfortunately stem grads or students are much more likey to kill the test. It's basic competition. Unless there is a strict no stem barrier, your non stem grads will miss out. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:03pm On May 13, 2025 |
raumdeuter:Maybe I exaggerated, but HR jobs are more readily available than engineering jobs. The ratio fit be 15 to 1 sef |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 6:05pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:It is what it is. Same applies to engineering. Outside of energy and construction and for a while telcos there was not much for engineers Physics is a celebrated course abroad but in naija it is for those who could not make it into engineering. Ironic as physics is likely more difficult |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:09pm On May 13, 2025 |
GloriousGbola: Exactly how I see it. Rather than celebrating STEMs for transitioning easily into philosophy, we should be afraid of how the lack of jobs are killing that sector. Engineering is almost becoming like History; No jobs |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 6:14pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:Let's assume you're not suggesting that all HR grads automatically have jobs waiting for them, and don't have to hunt for jobs outside of their fields of study. My point is, if my turf (however small you suggest it might be) you can't enter, but I can with little stress enter your own turf and compete with you, who's at an advantage, me, or you? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Shegzdave: 6:15pm On May 13, 2025 |
raumdeuter:How many microbiologist are working in their respective field in Nigeria? You’re missing My own point of Nigeria being the primary factor of choice; there are jobs available to non STEM graduates than STEM |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 6:16pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:U did not exaggerate anything. Attached are screenshot of HR job openings in Ardova Petroleum, Nestoil and UBA. If u just go through search on LinkedIn there are tons of these job openings in different top tier companies across different industries from Oil and gas to banking, to fintech, tech companies like LG electronics in Nigeria, etc. He knows u are saying the truth but he won't agree.

Theflint1:You are entering his turf because 1) Your turf has no offer for you 2) His turf has a space for you You are seeing it as an advantage, but I am seeing a big problem. Most of our Engineering graduates end up with non STEM jobs. Is this truly an advantage? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:20pm On May 13, 2025 |
BlueRayDick:Toor You know say I no dey Corporate world. So I no wan argue ![]() I know I see more non STEM jobs everyday than I see a STEM job. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 6:22pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:This is the point I've been struggling to make them see. Nigeria is not a country driven by STEM at all ; our manufacturing industry is almost dead. We are import dependent country where most of the STEM graduates need to either travel abroad or go back to the social sciences they've been badmouthing for the past few days for them to see good job. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 6:33pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:Insufficient STEM jobs and ease of STEM grads transitioning to non-STEM are two different discourses. Even if there were enough STEM jobs, it would still be easy for STEM grads to transition into non-STEM and that's the point we've been making. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:34pm On May 13, 2025 |
BlueRayDick:I don't see the transitioning as any advantage. You did not study Engineering to end up in Retail banking. You ended up there because you didn't see a job after 5 years. That's a problem, if you ask me. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:36pm On May 13, 2025 |
Theflint1:If there were enough STEM jobs, this argument wouldn't even exist. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 6:45pm On May 13, 2025 |
izzou:People go to school to give themselves options, and this is why they go for certain courses and fields when deciding on what to study. I can study Engineering, and get a job after graduation as an Engineer, then midway decide I want to become a HR professional, and with 300K I'd become one. That I have that option, I'm in a more advantageous position over someone that doesn't have such flexibility available. |

Shegzdave:Microbiologists are not working anywhere. I know of a few in UK that never landed a job in the field. One had to do another X amount of years to convert to Medicine |
