HelenaWills:
I wanted to get my mum a small car last year.
Didn't have money for a tokunbo so I asked my brothers to help me surf jiji for any affordable car.
They showed me a Civic 08 and since I drive one myself, I felt it would be nice to match with my mum.

My brothers and a Kazeem went for inspection and they discovered the car had a few things to be fixed which made them slash the price from 2.4M that we initially agreed to #2,050,000.
This was in June last year.

They set out to drive the car down to my house before heading to my mum's but brethrens, since June last year till this very moment as I type this. The car has only been parked from one Kazeem shop to another, on some days it was left by the road side or a petrol station for days out of frustration. I have spent above 700k on it all to no fruition. It's been almost a year now and this car hasn't made me it my house yet talk more of sending it to my mum. I contacted the guy and he said he had tried by slashing the price and that was all he could do. At some point, he stopped picking my brother's calls.
Please what advice can you give me?

Can I get him arrested or take legal measures against him at least? Or has this become my headache for life?
I need chunks of recommendations please.
Get him arrested? For what offence? Your brother and his friend went to inspect the vehicle and after discovering some fault beat down the price and payment was voluntarily made. Case closed.

Advice.
When next you want to buy anything go with an expert in that field in the case an experience and trusted mechanic should have accompanied your brother and tell him he will be paid to avoid him collecting bribe from the seller. Do you think if the vehicle is in good condition the owner will sell it that cheap?

Re: What Will You Do If You Were In My Position? by Warmaterial(m): 7:28pm On May 13, 2025
I would advise you to go to a well equipped mechanical shop where they will diagnose your car to ascertain the faults, there they will give you list of what to buy with guarantee and they will fix your car hundred percent. Don't patronize road mechanics because it will never end well, they will syphon all your money yet can't solve the problem. I can tell you that you won't spend that much and your car would be okay.

While it was being driven to my place.
Overheating happened and it damaged the four coils.
There right there, I spent above 250k fixing radiator, automated dashboard, four coils, plugs, oil gauge stick, mobil oil, gasket and some stupid things.

They fixed it, and it worked for a few minutes till it broke down again and I had to change filter and fuel pump with some minor things because car won't move. After a while... it moved again then stopped. This time it was the kick but before they figured it out.
I learnt the roadside Kazeem had almost pieced the car in search of a fault that wasn't there.

While we were on this, I decided to replace the steering pump and rack because the steering had become stiff and so difficult to turn. This cost some fortunes.

Mind you, like play like play, this car had spent about 3 months at different locations. I got tired at this point and decided to leave it under bridge in Ojuelegba where I was asked to pay #400 per day but begged for #200. It was there from December till last month.

I was told it overheated again while moving from God knows where to Ojuelegba and I needed to replace the coils all again.
Let's no forget there were different electrical issues that I can't even list out because I don't even know what to call them.
But now, the gear is making one annoying and disturbing sound and they are asking for an arm and heart to fix it. It will be one year by next month and car hasn't made it to my house.
It can't even go beyond 25Km/h nor can it climb hills.
Very frustrating.
Good evening
I want to buy the car 700k if you are interested call me 08131162221

Just sell the car as scrap or find an unsuspecting victim.
That's why I can never buy a Nigeria used car ohh
Re: What Will You Do If You Were In My Position? by HyAccent11: 7:31pm On May 13, 2025
This is going to come across as being insensitive but it's the truth. Even if you arrest the guy you can't get the about N2.7m that you've spent back.
If I were you, I will butcher the car and sell it as scrap. Count my loses and move on. (It has actually happened to me before)
As a rule never buy a car from JIji. (More than 90% of those their are scammers)
If you are buying a Nigerian used car buy from someone you know personally so you have a history of the car.
Secondly when buying a Nigerian used car, don't pay once use the car for at least 2 weeks.

So sorry to hear your ordeal, but you have nothing against the seller, even police 🚔 will just use you to eat.

You have nothing against him, from your write up, it is clearly stated that, he slashed some part of the money for you, so that you can make some fixes, so it is now left to you to do comprehensive analysis on what to change and do them yourself...

Your brother and the kazeem you took there are at fault, most especially the kazeem you took there, he should have checked well, may be because of what's he's meant to get from you, he hurriedly check and didn't do proper checking...

Honda is very difficult to buy as a Nigerian use, few people knows how to maintain it..

Please sell it to some of the kazeems and, if you have enough money, add it and buy tokunboh for your mum, she deserve a car with zero issues..

I pray God help you to get a better car for your mum

That's what I'm rapping my head on now,, like I don't understand how someone will transfer 2m for a car purchase without at least 2 hrs road testing.
Re: What Will You Do If You Were In My Position? by Ashirioluwa: 7:47pm On May 13, 2025
Arresting him won't get you your money back; rather, it may increase your expenses because the police may demand payment from you as well.

Your options are either to get the car fixed or sell it as is so you can recover a portion of the money you paid on this vehicle.

You can't arrest him cos you didn't do your due diligence before buying a lemon.

Just sell it as a scrap and count your loses
Re: What Will You Do If You Were In My Position? by Larrydollarz(m): 7:54pm On May 13, 2025
Chai! Them don let you carry money buy Agruekusia! grin
The two people that went to inspect the car is to blame for this, because they are both more interested in what the seller is willing to give them on the day of inspection. So they didn't even bother to do thorough inspection because them don give them egujeh!
They are both Alatenujeh! for putting you in this mess.
Solution: go sell the car scrap for Ladipo since you prefer the car to rust to dust than to sell it to someone. and don't bother to count your loss for your own sanity.
Peace✌🏼

What exactly is the problem of the carhuh I have been using mine since 2019 and I have been enjoying it just minor issues, if you are in Lagos I can direct where you will fix everything, nothing do ur car na you never see better mechanic
Do you have a good air-con technician and sound mechanic that can reinstall thermostat instead of using direct fan..

the mechanic that went along with your brother wasn't honest with you guys and might have collected small stipends so he could look the other way because imagine spending over 700k on a car and still yet e never reach owner house haba now even if them dey push motor come from sambisa e go don reach your mama house tey tey, keke, danfo, okada & kabukabu for don mark register for the motor body 🤔

You dont have any case except that buy came with a warrantee. You should be mad at your mechanic, he might have sold you out. Always assess this vehicles with a sound minded mechanic. You might just have to sell it off as scrap.
Re: What Will You Do If You Were In My Position? by piagetskinner(m): 8:36pm On May 13, 2025
Oboy you really bought problems…..that Kazeem should he dealt with. Kazeem are mostly useless people.

I remember buying a Camry sometime ago took a Kazeem along with me. The idiotic Kazeem connived with the seller of the car knowing fully well that it had issues. The cow told me the car was very good.

Whilst driving I noticed some sounds but he said they are minor things that can be sorted.
Long and short I had to fix the gear box, repair steering rack, shocks, bearings, replaced the entire coils and plugs. E no go better for the goats wey sell me the car. Although the car works now.

Hi , Honda products are not that difficult to maintain , provided you have the right mechanic.
If you are in Lagos , oyingbo is your best bet , as the parts are also readily available there.
I can give you the number of a reliable mechanic there , but you also have to take out some time to supervise things for yourself to get it fixed once and for all.
Regards.

Did they check the top cylinder head to know if it is cracked? The is what may cause such overheating. Also did place a scan tool to detect the faults? This days as a car owner, I do advise people to get one because it will save you so many stories that touches the heart!

Questions when I bought it?
Did you read that I asked my brothers to go there with a Kazeem? Someone who charged me 40k before he could agree to follow my brothers for inspection.
Whoelse would I trust with the knowledge of a car?
I even learnt that when the Kazeem got there, he and the seller exchanged contacts for reasons I do not know. I'm thinking the seller settled him to convince my brothers to buy the car.
Your kazeem made you buy a coffin. Change mechanic ASAP!

He played you and also made money from the seller.
