In a surprising twist that’s shaking Nigeria’s entertainment scene, rising stars T-Dollar and TobiNation have both been sentenced to six months in prison over charges of Naira mutilation. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The judgment was delivered on Thursday, May 8, 2025, by the Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the pair pleaded guilty in court. Presiding over the case at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Justice Owoeye gave a six-month jail sentence, but also offered the duo a way out — a ₦200,000 fine in lieu of incarceration.

This ruling adds to the growing list of high-profile entertainers caught in the EFCC’s clampdown on Naira abuse. In recent months, the agency has scrutinized several celebrities, including controversial musician Portable, popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, and stand-up comedian AY Makun, who recently shared his own experience with the agency’s investigation.

With the EFCC tightening its grip on public currency violations, this could mark a turning point in how celebrities handle public displays of wealth. The question on everyone’s lips: Is the era of carefree cash spraying over in Nigerian entertainment?

Makes sense but if chief priest no fit get mugshot, okoya sons no fit get mugshot, and tompplo no fit get mugshot for same naira abuse, then it's embarrassingly ridiculous for the EFCC to expect Nigerians to respect them

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should be dissolved.
Arresting people involved in the spraying of naira notes does not justify EFCC's existence.

EFCC work now is to catch celebrities that spray money publicly, so if u know that you are famous don't spray money publicly and don't allow them spray u money, the mandate of EFCC have changed from catching thieves that steal public funds to celebrities that spree money ..lastly we should be careful about listening to olumide and phyno song , spray mee dollar dollar spray me money onyema onyema because that song might motivate you to spray money and end up in EFCC net grin

I see it as a jamboree judgement particularly with the meagre option of fine in lieu of the sentence. Naira abuse will keep increasing particularly in the entertainment industry if stiffer judgement is not applied but the court of law concerning it
