JUST-IN: Bobrisky Arrives Court, Faces N180m Money Laundering, Naira Abuse Charges

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign controversial transgender, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, before the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday morning.

LEADERSHIP reports that Bobrisky, who was arrested on Wednesday, was granted an administrative bail by the EFCC on Thursday but couldn’t meet the bail conditions.

The controversial transgender, was driven to the Federal High Court premises in Ikoyi, Lagos, around 9am in a white Hiace Toyota bus by EFCC operatives under armed police escorts this Friday.

Bobrisky is expected to be docked by the anti-graft agency on allegations bothering on money laundering and abuse of Naira.

The transgender, who was seen in a viral video spraying Naira notes to the floor at a social function where he was being praised by a musician, will also be docked before Justice Abimbola Awogboro on a six-count charge of allegedly laundering N180 million through his company, Bob Express, and tampering with N490,000 notes by spraying.

While the first four counts of the charge signed by the EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), alleged that the defendant abused the Naira currency, the last two counts border on alleged money laundering.

In the first count, the defendant is accused of tampering with N400,000 by spraying the same while dancing at a social event at the IMAX Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos.

He was also alleged, in count 2, to have between July and August 2023 at Aja Junction, Ikorodu, also tampered with another sum of N50,000 by spraying same at a social event while dancing.

In count 3, Bobrisky, in December 2023 at White Steve Event Hall, Ikeja, also sprayed and tampered with another sum of N20,000 while dancing.

Count four also accused Bobrisky of spraying and tampering with another sum of N20,000 while dancing at another event in Oniru, Victoria Island.

The EFCC said the offence was committed on March 24, 2024, and is contrary to, and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

In count 5, Bobrisky, while trading under the name and style of Bob Express between September 1, 2021, and April 4, 2024, in Lagos, failed to submit to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, a declaration of the activities of the said company, (Bob Express) within which period the total sum of N127. 7m was paid into the company account domiciled with Ecobank.

In count 6, Bobrisky is also accused of failing to submit a declaration of the activities of the company within the same period when another N53m was paid into the company’s account, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 6(1)(a), and Section 19(1) (f) of the Money Laundering (Prevention And Prohibition) Act and punishable under Section 19 (2) (b) of the same Act.

It is now possible to live in Nigeria and earn salary in US Dollars with premium domains, you can earn as much as $17,000 (₦27Million)

The law won't be reviewed or amended coz he is mainly charged for money laundering...
But you are more bothered about his "Crossdressing lifestyle" which isn't even close to any count charge on her

Fear who no fear GOVERNMENT! The case against him is very watery, with a good lawyer he will be let off immediately.
However, the case is a way of cautioning him since the government can't possibly try him for cross-dressing and as well don't want to infuriate the powerful LGBTQ community. But if he is wise, he should learn to tune down the noise around him else the government will cook for him something too big for him to eat.

Update: You noticed how he is being led by a woman and a man. Normally only a man would lead a man to the court house. You bet the LGBTQ community has their power, the govt don't want to infuriate them but somehow, Bobrisky must be made to stop the noise around him, hence the court case!

**** I have gotten some replies to my comment here regarding the power that community has. Here is a reply I gave to one of the replies in italics below..

One of the reasons Goodluck Jonathan as president was hated by the West (American and Europe) was his govt's stand against the LGBTQ in Nigeria. That also contributed to the reason they worked against him. If nothing was done to Bobrisky and Verydarkblackman goes on to carry out his threat to use female toilets, that would have created unnecessary attention for the present government and would have narrowed the western media watch against Tinubu. Tinubu/the government wouldn't want such especially now that our economy is in shambles plus you have a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ as the POTUS.

*** The speed with which both the EFCC and the Judiciary is executing this case says a lot. Fast fast them arrest, grant am bail, before even taking him to court. Now he has pleaded guilty and judgement on that would be administered on the 9th, less than a 5 days from today. I hope they do the same for all pending court cases and not just this!
