Legal action for what? Didn't you agreed to buy the car willingly? Didn't you sign agreement you have bought a car from him? Is their any agreement that you will bring it back in certain period Incase the car bring problem from the one he told you, your brother and Kareem?

Evidence for what? Did he buy the car under duress? Didn't they check and drive before paying?. The guy even dropped price because they pointed out somethings to fix. It means they agreed they will fix it, tbey should go and fix it
Firebox123:
can't you see the payment receipt

Is that not enough evidence

While it was being driven to my place.
Overheating happened and it damaged the four coils.
There right there, I spent above 250k fixing radiator, automated dashboard, four coils, plugs, oil gauge stick, mobil oil, gasket and some stupid things.

They fixed it, and it worked for a few minutes till it broke down again and I had to change filter and fuel pump with some minor things because car won't move. After a while... it moved again then stopped. This time it was the kick but before they figured it out.
I learnt the roadside Kazeem had almost pieced the car in search of a fault that wasn't there.

While we were on this, I decided to replace the steering pump and rack because the steering had become stiff and so difficult to turn. This cost some fortunes.

Mind you, like play like play, this car had spent about 3 months at different locations. I got tired at this point and decided to leave it under bridge in Ojuelegba where I was asked to pay #400 per day but begged for #200. It was there from December till last month.

I was told it overheated again while moving from God knows where to Ojuelegba and I needed to replace the coils all again.
Let's no forget there were different electrical issues that I can't even list out because I don't even know what to call them.
But now, the gear is making one annoying and disturbing sound and they are asking for an arm and heart to fix it. It will be one year by next month and car hasn't made it to my house.
It can't even go beyond 25Km/h nor can it climb hills.
Very frustrating.
I had the same problem with a Suzuki every I bought, I have to pack it for over 2 years till now, over heating and knocking engines, you have learn the hard way just like my experience, when ever you are buying any car in nigeria make sure you test it to a long distance on it like more than 40 minute to 1 hours, some cars are just problem from
Village people, they are sent to drain the new owner, the car might have frustrated the previous buyer and he push the problem to you to continue, you can let the car die in your hand or puss it to the next buyer.

Honda? That car showed me pepper.

When Nigerian mechanics see Honda, they smile. The car prints money for them. grin

One mechanic saved my name as 'Ejeh' (blood), when I was driving that Honda, I was calling him every week for one fault or another, and he was smiling to the bank. grin grin

I sold the honda, bought a Toyota. When he came to celebrate with me, I gave him a drink and told him, he would not be getting any calls from me for the next 2 years. It's 4 years now and I have not called him for any fault. grin

I wanted to get my mum a small car last year.
Didn't have money for a tokunbo so I asked my brothers to help me surf jiji for any affordable car.
They showed me a Civic 08 and since I drive one myself, I felt it would be nice to match with my mum.

My brothers and a Kazeem went for inspection and they discovered the car had a few things to be fixed which made them slash the price from 2.4M that we initially agreed to #2,050,000.
This was in June last year.

They set out to drive the car down to my house before heading to my mum's but brethrens, since June last year till this very moment as I type this. The car has only been parked from one Kazeem shop to another, on some days it was left by the road side or a petrol station for days out of frustration. I have spent above 700k on it all to no fruition. It's been almost a year now and this car hasn't made me it my house yet talk more of sending it to my mum. I contacted the guy and he said he had tried by slashing the price and that was all he could do. At some point, he stopped picking my brother's calls.
Please what advice can you give me?

Can I get him arrested or take legal measures against him at least? Or has this become my headache for life?
I need chunks of recommendations please.
Let me tell you the simple truth the dealer has already connive with kazeem to persuade you to buy it, it just a signal between two of them at the point of purchase and from one fault to another Kazeem will chop your money more.

My advice for you just sell the car too don't waste your money on Nigeria police for case they too will milk you more, and next time avoid Nigeria used car unless you know the person that is driving the car before.

Close ur eye and buy new engine and gear. Leave that thief you call a mechanic
If the engine is not smoking, it may likely be electrical fault, since he said it's moves slowly it still means some of the plug caps are still not working

Buying honda civic 2008 for #2M is a good deal too cheap to be true.
After buying that cheap, you should have replaced the complete drive train which is less than 600k.
Sell it to me if you cant handle it

D mechanic knew exactly what was wrong with d car but saw an opportunity. Never trust anyone. Use at least 2 to 3 random mechanic for inspection n compare their conclusions. Also mark d mechanics n make sure there is no behind d scene negotiations BTW d mechanic n d seller. From experience.
Go online n do research on ur own about d car to be in a well informed position

You waited too long to swing into action but if you have proof that the car hasn’t served its purpose text or WhatsApp messages, just get a good lawyer to go the Area command or higher police stations and make a complaint.

I see you’re in Lagos just go to the area command or just go to panti straight no time. If you want I can help connect you a police officer at panti.

Helenawills
The seller told them of things to fix and reduced the price so he didnt scam them

The car is expired the only solution is to take it to a certified Honda repare Center. The repare center must be certified by Honda themselves to get a new engine. The bill will be steep but you will have a car that is almost healthy depending on the condition of the body work.
Op is a female and the mechanic and brother are taking advantage of her, problem in in fault tracing and immediately they identify the fault it will be fixed

There was no written agreement on such but we called him one time to let him know the situation of the car and as well let him know we would be returning it.. He stopped taking calls ever since.
If you bought the car non tested you can go ahead with your legal actionbut if you guys tested the car and saw the condition and decided to pay and carry it out from his premesis, then you don't have any thing against him
It now your headache. Maybe sell

The car model is a very good reliable car. but one needs to understand some tricks. you can reach out to me or go to oyingbo if you are in Lagos.

I want to buy the car 700k if you are interested call me 08131162221
Don’t attempt to fix Honda gear o. It is not fixable, they will just chop ur money.
Re: What Will You Do If You Were In My Position? by emmy9500: 1:30am On May 14, 2025
The seller sold in bad faith

You can sue the seller. But you will have to prove the seller knew all this and withheld the information

This will be almost impossible to prove since you said you had an independent “professional” inspect the car for you

You admitted that you bought a used car after inspection and certification by your mechanic. So what exactly is the issue? The owner informed you that the low price was because of issues with the car. Could he be any more transparent than that? Blame your mechanic. Blame yourself.

The fact that you have taken the car to different Nigerian mechanics makes your claims even worse.

Didn't you test-drive the car during inspection before payment?
Your mechanic is the culprit here.
He must have connived with the seller to rip you off.
Stop spending on the car and sell it as scrap or let the professionals in auto section of nairaland help you fix it.

That's what you get for going for cheap car price, 2.4 million could have gotten you a mini shuttle bus new one and it's good for business too

Sorry to tell you this, but you bought a lemon; most probably a flood disposal (tricky to resolve because new issues will keep coming up after you resolve one. Cut your losses and sell as scrap (parts), you might still get up to a million Naira undecided undecided undecided undecided

With all this you spent you could have got a fresh complete engine with all components direct from dubai from an accidented vehicle.

Take the car to Lapido if you are in Lagos.
The car simply needs a good "Kazeem".
It has a mechanical fault that can be fixed by a good mechanic.

I think what you need to do is to butcher the car. There are spare part dealers that can buy the car at butcher price from you for like a million or more.

What they do is they will lose the car completely and sell the good parts one by one then sell the bad ones as scrap (Iron condemn). If you do that yourself, you can recover like 1.5m or more than.

Sell bumber, engine, gear box, radiator, dashboard etc. But get a mechanic that knos tge prices very well so you will not be cheated.

All this spare part sellers will come and buy from you
