A video is currently trending online, showing a young man who was caught with items stolen from the store he had just been employed to work at. The man, who was reportedly hired only a day earlier, was found with several stolen items hidden in his bag.

The store owner, popularly referred to as "madam," expressed deep disappointment. She couldn’t believe that someone she had employed just a day ago — especially because he was from her tribe — could steal such a large number of items so quickly.

In a rather sarcastic tone, the madam asked the employee to clap for himself for stealing so much on his first day at work. The young man, however, couldn’t clap. Instead, he kept apologizing repeatedly to his madam.

The madam employed him because he is from her tribe and not based on qualification or ability to do the work and that is what is killing Nigeria till today.

In politics, you will know a certain candidate that can perform but because he or she is not from your tribe, you wont vote him, therefore putting a square box inside a wrong hole.

Similar thing happened to me about 5 years ago..I hired a young man who claimed his Dad is a pastor, the next day, the young man stóle my office phone and N17,500 cash.

Since then I dey fear people with innocent face

This is why employers give jobs to three categories of job seekers:

1. Those they know
2. Those they like
3. Those they can trust.

If you don't fall into these three categories and someone still gives you the opportunity to earn a living, don't fail your family.

That is too bad, average Nigerian have tendency to steal from you if they have the chance.

Many years ago, a friend of mine employed a driver. The young man started work that morning at 8am. That morning he was handed the papers of the car, just in case of the usual where your particulars people. His first assignment was to purchase petrol into the car. He drove off and never returned. When we searched for him, his address was fake. His guarantor fake. The car was never seen again.

Just imagine the thief in the picture. Day1 stole items worth over 10k. If he was not caught, he probably would keep stealing that amount worth of goods until he finished the shop. The madman did not realize that there was CCTV or he probably underrated it. He maybe never thought that he would be caught. That’s the type who people employ as housekeepers and they remove money and gold.
