If adding Dr. to your name makes you happy, then do it. Lol
I don't even fancy the title! I'm just ashamed that our medical doctors could make an issue out of the "Dr" title, just the same way they cry when they see other healthcare professionals wearing lab coats!

You cannot own a private hospital as a resident doctor. As a consultant, Yes.
Yes, but even if you don't own them, you can still work for someone who do and make extra income.

Doctors with just one job in Nigeria are minority, people come to you even in your house for consultation.

Even nurses do this, not to talk of doctors

Doctors are overpaid if you ask me.
There's no logical explanation why Doctors should earn more than Engineers. After all, seeing a doctor doesn't guarantee one will survive an illness or die.
You dont know what you are saying!

This response is very clear and concise.
Doctors need to understand that the various parts of the body, need each other.
As health professionals, the ultimate goal should be how to achieve complete patient care not who is more superior.
Did he ask other professionals not to protest their pay?

Why are you people so bitter towards Doctors?

This post as nothing to do with superiority in health sector.

ENOUGH OF YOU PEOPLE INFERIORITY COMPLEX

THEY ARE NOT THE HIGHEST PAID CIVIL SERVANT!

Doctors should not earn below 1 M monthly in Nigeria bcs they really worth . I knew their worth in January when I had some serious complications
Don't mind them forming in the mouth.

They should take a time out and observe a doctor activities at work especially in emergency, procedures and ward round.

Those people forming in the mouth on this thread are wounded doctors wanna be who found themselves in other professions like pharmacy, nursing lab science ,Zoology ,biochemical and co

If they want to ask for salary increment, let them do ask legitimately and not this their current antics of bullying other healthcare professionals with inconsequential things like "Dr" title and whatnots
Bullying?......you lack knowledge.

Most doctors when want Nurses too to start demanding for Doctor of Nursing.

Na patients go suffer with confusion

Some Nigerians are just ingrates . How much did it cost to train Doctors in the countries where some Nigerian Doctors are running to and how much is the cost to train a Doctor in Nigeria and yet you are comparing the salary? If Nigerian Doctors wants to earn more then the cost to train them will go up astronomically and Nigerians must be ready to pay more at the hospitals.

If you get a medical license in Nigeria, there must be a 5-10 years medical commitment where they are bound contractually to practice in Nigeria. Payment must be increased to give them a decent life also!

The problem with some people is that yes doctor are doing great job but they are not God that healed,a doctor is almost hundred percent sure of coming back home with all his body intact, but it's 50/50 for a soldier yet they aren't earning what doctors are earning.
Do you know how many doctors,Nurses and MLS that have been infected with Hep B and HIV and infected his family members too unknowingly?...do your know how many health care workers that has died of suicide from depression induced from what he or she experienced on the ward??

That’s false. A resident doctor who just started residency earns about 450k, a senior reg earns almost 620k, a consultant could go as high as 800k
Quite low still...

Comparing Doctors and Engineers are absurd somehow to me. Apart from Medical sciences, mention 1 profession that deals with treating humans(living things). Just 1. Virtually all humans have different body systems and u need to study them all. Visit hospitals, and handle different patients, then u will know. How many Engineers from Nigeria's extraction are sought after more than Doctors? Non living things can never be equated with living things. I'm not looking down on Engineers at all. Just slight comparison. When covid 19 struck, who was running the show to save humanity? Doctors I guess. How many Engineers and how many doctors(herbalists)are in Africa? Without Engineers life can perfectly go on but without Doctors, humanity would be gradually going into extinction

.....I personally think the Doctors are just plain greedy, in a country where the minimum wage is 70k, you are started on 350-400k a month during training, I think it is reasonable. 300k a month equates to 3.6m a year. As a young you can get a reasonable apartment for 1 to 1.5 million and still have about 2m to play with.

But physicians (in the real sense, they are not doctors) seem to complain more, even though the government is doing what it can. Those who were supposed to complain are the military and the police, and not those who went to school almost for free. Nigerians are not patriotic anyway. A unified world would have prevented physicians from migrating from one country to another, especially when they are training using state resources. If you want to be rich, be an entrepreneur. This ought to be table at UN general assembly
In the real sense "they are not not doctors"...Lolz....so what are they?....PHYSICIANS are type of medical doctors that treat without major procedures. Not all medical doctors are PHYSICIANS.

Now when you say physicians, what about surgeons, radiologists etc what are day...
You may say, they are not doctors but they are all Medical doctors.

People giving hot takes without thinking.
A resident is in his late 20s or early thirties when he should be getting married, buying a house or whatever project. On top of that, there will be people billing him just for being a doctor. How can he buy a car, fuel it and take care of other expenses from such a salary
..... you expect a young person starting out to rush and buy a house, car, and carry family on top of his head. Why can't he rent for a while and use public transportation since he is still young.

No resident doctor earns less than 400k in a public hospital in Nigeria as at today. Maybe the 316k excludes call duty allowance
So you think any state can afford that amount of money.

...That they got trained for "free", and should be paid peanuts. grin

Well, there is a reason your elected leaders and politicians prefer to treat even common cold and migraine in hospitals abroad where doctors are not paid 1,000 Naira or less per hour.

...For proper context... That's less than 1 Dollar per hour. tongue

Freelancers with only a Diploma working from home as Virtual Assistants earn at least 5 Dollars per hour, while a whole medical professional earns 5 times less while risking his health and peace of mind to save lives daily.
..... what proper context, do we spend dollars, I recently engaged the services of a carpenter, and he charged me #5k. Please compare like with like.

I see I am talking to someone less informed. What is the literary meaning of a doctor?
A title meant for those having a Phd hijacked by the UK Universities in the late 19th century
for physicians. This is just a preamble, and I believe this little history may humble your
ignorance. Stop being moved by your little experience, but dig deep into history.

Read again... And show me where I demanded that we pay them in Dollars.

Don't you know the meaning of the term "Comparative"?!!

Let me help you...!

How much does a Senator in the United States earn compared to a Medical Doctor there?!!

What is the standard of living of a minimum wage earner in Canada, U.S and Australia compared to one in Nigeria?!!

Talking about craftsmen, whatever your carpenter charges you is what he is worth as a craftsman...!

Are we paying our workers especially Healthcare workers what they are worth in terms of risks, mental commitments, etc,?!!

While at it, compare how we remunerate our Senators and how senators are paid in U.S too., and tell me if it's the same with other workers in Nigeria.

So, what like with what like are you asking me to compare?!!
