For me we don't have the capacity to jail them
Making laws you can't enforce is how u look weak

1) fine them 200k
2) if you miss 3 straight election without voting you would be deregistered
Misplaced priority
Where in the world is voting compulsory

Misplaced priority and wasting of public funds and time on issues that cannot be implemented.

How many persons can you jail for not voting?

Instead of tackling the real issue that encourages voters apathy which is electoral malpractices and blatant disrespect for Nigerians by INEC

They want to force people to start voting, but they won't pass a bill that will hand down death penalty to corrupt politicians. Nigerians need to wake up and take back their country!
There was never a time the country belonged to the masses. Na the politicians get this country.

voter apathy is in itself voting. This bill is a waste of time. You can't force any citizen to vote. It's a right not an obligation. No where in the world is voting mandatory.

Australia has a compulsory voting law as do several other countries including Brazil and Argentina

Some African countries like Egypt have a compulsory voting law on the books, though not enforced as it should be
Nobody should have been forcing Nigerians to vote if their votes truly count

How does this bill relate to the section of the constitution that guarantees citizens' freedom of choices? Why force a man against his will? How do you relate the bill to groups like Jehovah witnesses whose faith forbids them to vote? Are you going to persecute them on basis of their faith when the constitution guarantees freedom of religion?
The people we have in these so called hallowed chambers are bunch of illiterate jokers, they won't even allow any dissenting voice in their deliberation. After having misruled the country to the point where citizens have lost faith in them and their electoral nonsense, they begin to seek the back door to coerce people to doing their bidding. Awon ode!

It will not be well with whoever brought that bill up in the first place. Me ..vote again? Lailaaai.. after disenfranchising Nigerians in the last election? You expect me to vote again? NEVER..! Election Nigeria is just as fraudulent as FRAUD so no need to vote. When the government has already known who they are given the position, why waste out time? Laaailaaai. And no one will go to jail. Rubbish

I think it is a good idea. It would finally force Nigerians to take an interest in the voting process and maybe we won't have parties like apc voted in again.
It will be ideal if you can address the issues people have raised. Ok a theoretical level, it is a good idea. Create an Athenian democratic participation.

However, shouldn’t the bill be approached from a different angle, focusing on the real reasons for voters’ apathy such as violence, ignorance and illiteracy, logistical challenges, poverty which deprives people the funds to travel and time to vote, single parents struggling with their childcare responsibilities, military, diaspora voters, and general lack of confidence in the system.

Also, there is the risk of discriminatory enforcement. People might then perceive that though ethnic lenses.

I will only agree to this if only I have a system that allows me to vote even with USSD or an App using a mobile phone...

This would have made sense if they valued voters security as much as they are taking this serious.

Imagine going to vote while guns and machete fly over my head.
