Is this really true! Medical doctors make una help confirm. Meanwhile, a common LGA counsellor is earning more than an average doctor. Even agbero like MC Oluomo is a big boy comparable to doctors. What a crude nation.
Thugs , palace boys, ministers, Governors, bob risky,.. influencers, entertainment. are the big boys,.. including Efcc...

Any other skilled profession,.. takes Grace to survive.. in Nigeria

Ungrateful people
Don’t think if everyone run to USA, Canada or uk the pay will remain the same?
The citizens of those countries are going to other countries that pay better because blacks are ruining their job.

And you think those countries don't have blacks as citizens?
You have a small mind.

Residents are students in the logical sense. They still undergoing training to become consultants.
That training is being paid for by the government..
I respectfully disagree. Referring to resident doctors as "students" undermines their significant contributions to the medical field. A more accurate description would be "doctors in training." They are essential to the healthcare system, as they carry out a substantial amount of the work, and thus they deserve fair compensation. Think of it like a graduate trainee at a company—those positions are compensated too.

Have you considered the implications of having underpaid doctors? Do you truly value your life and the lives of your loved ones?

Imagine facing a medical emergency and finding that the on-call doctor is unavailable because they're busy pursuing a side hustle to make ends meet. It's a risky proposition to sacrifice the livelihoods of our healthcare professionals for the sake of saving government funds. Current day Nigeria you'd need at least 1.5M as pay for our doctors. Even Ghana pay their list doctor $800 currently and Nigeria is still struggling with $250 dollars a month for a doctor? You might not fully grasp the consequences until you find yourself in need of urgent care.

The same government you wish to save money for have access to private jets for healthcare abroad when they encounter the slightest issue, where they can see well-paid doctors.

All these misguided responses do not matter.
If you think they are being paid enough, go to general hospitals and see how doctors are happily treating patients and jumping over one another to help.
They are not! They are worn down! And they are leaving!

All these theory judgements mean nothing.

..... you expect a young person starting out to rush and buy a house, car, and carry family on top of his head. Why can't he rent for a while and use public transportation since he is still young.
Definitely not. But with that earning, there is no way to get those things even after 10 years working.
Besides, registrars are not beginners.

People should stop defending the misgivings of our leaders. We have been so broken that we are now comfortable with whatever sh*t they throw at us.

Even in other African countries like Namibia, SA, Ghana and Kenya, professionals are treated as they should.

Saying a highly skilled professional should not complain about earning less than $200 is very saddening..

Mind you, this is not just about doctors. Every other professional should be agitating for much better welfare. This is why the last minimum wage agreement by the NCL is a joke. The politicians pocket billions and throw crumbs out to those that are supposed to be the pillars of economic growth and development.

Our professionals are moving out in droves. It wouldn't be long before we are left with just artisans.
The performances of the teenagers in their academics already reflects the lack of enthusiasm towards pursuing professional certifications. We are heading towards collapse.

Doctors are overpaid if you ask me.
There's no logical explanation why Doctors should earn more than Engineers. After all, seeing a doctor doesn't guarantee one will survive an illness or die.
what about working 24-36hr calls?

Do your engineers do that?

Just pray not to be sick and end up in the hands of a frustrated doctor.

True.

As a young doctor, one major thing that will shackle you to practice in this country is marriage in nigeria. So many would choose to rather not marry, marry someone with definite jakpa plans, or jakpa and wait to marry

.....I personally think the Doctors are just plain greedy, in a country where the minimum wage is 70k, you are started on 350-400k a month during training, I think it is reasonable. 300k a month equates to 3.6m a year. As a young you can get a reasonable apartment for 1 to 1.5 million and still have about 2m to play with.
it about pay in respect to the time and dedication they spend to work. Healthcare staff work more than 9-5, most hospitals work round the clock.

They are too entitled

Do they produce their own food by themselves?
Are they more important than the farmer?

I am in the healthcare system and know how it works and even the politics involved.

Doctors-in-training are still students. It does not water down their contribution.
Nigeria Physicians have always had a side hustle, one of the side hustle is playing politics with the salaries and emolument of other non-physician medical and health professionals, which never happens anywhere in the saner climes.

If your Resident physicians have enough time on your hands to tell the government how much to pay Pharmacists, Nurses, Medical Scientists, Physio et. al. How busy do you want us to believe you are?

What you have said are not based on facts rather these are words of jealousy wrongly directed at doctors because of hospital politics. Doctors do not determine the salaries and emolument of other health professionals. If you are so sure about that please present verifiable proof on that.
How can you be working less hours and you still want to earn as much as someone who is working almost 4 times the hours you are putting in and also more skilled than you?
Is that not witchcraft?

Are you a resident Doctor ?
Who told you no Doctor earn less than 400k in Government Hospitalhuh

No Junior registrar earn up to 400k and no senior registrar earn up to 500k in Government hospital.
The pay is even lesser in the few private hospitals with facilities for residency .

Oga Jman06, say what you know .
And yes, I’m a resident Doctor in a federal government hospital in Nigeria.
The salary is not bad Considering that a Prof on step 1 in a federal University is about 400k

You are being diversionary with your infantile claims of 'jealousy'.
Many non-physician medical professionals do call duties and shift, and work as hard or even more than you do. Pharmacists, Nurses, Med. Scientists all get to do calls and shifts.

Talking about skills, a Pharmacist is more skillful that a physician in matters related to drugs and medication, a Medical Lab. Scientist is more skillful than a physician in laboratory investigation methodologies, quality control and medical test validation, expectedly so.

If you are truthful to yourself, you will not deny ever seeing or reading publications where physicians in NMA or ARD oppose the increment in emoluments for other professionals. Just last week, ARD was trying to tell the professors in NUC what courses and subjects to approve for Pharmacy, Optometry and other health courses in our university.

Did you not see the thread?

Where in the sane world does that happen?
