I really do not like commenting in topics like this because most times they make no single sense....That $2.49 is technically just 2 unit of their currency..can 2 units of nigerian currency buy you that anywhere in Nigeria or Canada?
Why then are you concerned about Naira to Dollar rate every time?

Read about a case some few years back, a man bought coca-cola in quantities and shipped abroad, thinking of the profit he's going to make, when the consignment got to the designated country, it was shipped back to Nigeria , declaring it unfit for human consumption. so the man sued coca-cola bottling company. The following conversation took place
Prosecutor:Why did you produce a substandard product for me to export, there by making me to lose my resources.
Defendant:we never knew you wanted to export it, the drinks we produce in Nigeria is made for Nigerian market and not for export.
So you see, the coca-cola might look same but not the same quality. Mind you this really happened in Nigeria, it's no fiction .
fables. African stores have Nigerian drinks for immigrants who are stuck on taste.

100% lies. Which country will allow you bring in goods that will interfere with the ones in their markets? They will be sizes at the airport if he landed with them. If he intended to ship them in, did he get an import licence? If he got a licence and paid all the import duties on the goods, there's no way he can sell it cheaper than market value. You think it's easy to take a mega cooperation to court? Those that successfully did had solid cases and the funds to follow through. The story is pure fiction
Which lies?
The case is still in court but you're dismissing it as lies.

There are many reasons why coke is expensive in some countries and why they are cheaper in another and also why they taste differently.

Why are they expensive. Production cost, tax and also logistics cost( moving them from one place to another) one important stuff is foreign exchange fluctuation when importing the base ingredients.

A 50cl coke cost around 300 naira in Canada like you write down 2.49( 400 naira)

It is obvious that cost of production will be higher in Canada than in Nigeria, wages are also lower in Nigeria.

Also the only reason coke taste differently in Canada and Nigeria is simple. Most times, they make sure to adapt to the local taste.

The base ingredients are the same but they also try to adapt to our loca taste in terms of sweetness. Making it too sweet here in Nigeria might make them lose sales while in another country if it is not sweet they won't buy it.

It is the same way KFC in New York will have different taste from the one in Japan.
Now bugger king is adding pepper 🌶 because of yorubas

False!
The truth is their products are of the highest standards there is accountability and rule of law to know that there are consequences.Even the iPhones in Nigeria are different from the shipped to Europe and America. But it's a non starter comparing the Canadian dollar to the naira. But that consciousness of being a Nigerian will always convert in Nigeria.

It happened years ago. The year before I served, I think 2016 precisely. I could remember bringing up the scenario to ask a question from one NAFDAC official who came to Asaya camp to address us. The man had no answer.

You're right, the product is the same drink we all hold dear. That time, I sworn never to drink Coke again. But here i am, I still dey drink am.
God have mercy.

The point still remains that why would they declare a product we consume here in Nigeria "Not for human consumption" and NAFDAC gleefully issued approval for such product.

You made sense. I almost cited this example. It was actually in the UK that the coke was rejected and banned for consumption. They killed the case by bribing Nigerian politicians heavily in Nigeria cos that would have ended coca cola Nigeria's business.

When I say these crop of politicians must be sent packing, I always mean it. Sadly, the masses, who are always at the receiving end are still sleeping. Each time I'm abroad, I always have a different taste of their Fanta orange, which I love the most. The quality isn't same

Cost of labour also adds to it.
You’re absolutely correct.

The minimum wage per month in Nigeria is 70k naira, while the minimum wage in Canada is over 3 million naira (if an employee works 160 hours a month at Can$17).

Stop talking nonsense. 2 units of their currency. So why are they not earning 250,000 units of their currency monthly?

The price of that should be benchmarked against the average salary there.
But you are the one saying nonsense.

A coke is about £1 in UK but one hour wage is about 13pounds.

So it will be folish for anyone to equate 1pounds to N2000

Using the price of 50cl Coke in Canada versus Nigerian which is about Four Hundred naira (N400), I am suspecting that the ingredients are different combination. It means the Coke sold in Nigeria malls and shop are adultereted or of less ingredients.

I have attached the receipt of the Coke for verification in case you doubt..
lol you are JJC. Don't buy Coke from shoppers.

2L Coke in Walmart is $2.6.. Buy from NoFrills or other retail stores.

You are the most f00lish person alive for making this dumb comparison. Canadians earn in dollar. We earn in Naira. Minimum wage in Canada is $17.75 per hour while it is N70k (less than $44) for a whole month. So, even if production cost, labor and tax makes it $2.49 for a coke, you can’t compare that to Nigeria.

It's the truth. The news made headlines in Nigeria for weeks. Everyone apparently abandoned coke. NAFDAC was on a hot seat for approving that drink in the first place. They came and spoke grammar. They knew they didn't have a point. They later killed the matter. I've stopped drinking all these carbonated drinks sef. Magnetic010,

What do you have to say about this knockout punch that punctured your absurd logic?

Every country has a different value for a single unit of their currency, that is why there is a distinct and separate exchange rate between different currencies.

Even when our Naira single unit could do more than what a single dollar could do, we were never anywhere close to comparing our econimic strength to that of USA or UK, or even Italy that was spending about 1000 Lira for a Dollar when we were spending 0.5 Naira for a Dollar. Yet we were never a better economy that the USA or Italy.
