My woman had a course mate who is from Liberia, she said the woman used to tell them that Nigeria soft drinks are not sweet enough. She said at times the woman will buy three malta guinness, pour it in a container, then bring out sugar from her bag and pour into the malt before she will drink it.

Same malt that many Nigerians will consider too sweet.
You think the sugar is an advantage but it is actually the killer lurking inside such drinks

I entered a mall in Toronto to.buy coke and the amount will amaze you. Two dollar and forty nine cent ($2.49).

Using the price of 50cl Coke in Canada versus Nigerian which is about Four Hundred naira (N400), I am suspecting that the ingredients are different combination. It means the Coke sold in Nigeria malls and shop are adultereted or of less ingredients.

I have attached the receipt of the Coke for verification in case you doubt..
What's the minimum wage in Canada

Stop talking nonsense. 2 units of their currency. So why are they not earning 250,000 units of their currency monthly?

The price of that should be benchmarked against the average salary there.

100% lies. Which country will allow you bring in goods that will interfere with the ones in their markets? They will be sizes at the airport if he landed with them. If he intended to ship them in, did he get an import licence? If he got a licence and paid all the import duties on the goods, there's no way he can sell it cheaper than market value. You think it's easy to take a mega cooperation to court? Those that successfully did had solid cases and the funds to follow through. The story is pure fiction

There are many reasons why coke is expensive in some countries and why they are cheaper in another and also why they taste differently.

Why are they expensive. Production cost, tax and also logistics cost( moving them from one place to another) one important stuff is foreign exchange fluctuation when importing the base ingredients.

A 50cl coke cost around 300 naira in Canada like you write down 2.49( 400 naira)

It is obvious that cost of production will be higher in Canada than in Nigeria, wages are also lower in Nigeria.

Also the only reason coke taste differently in Canada and Nigeria is simple. Most times, they make sure to adapt to the local taste.

The base ingredients are the same but they also try to adapt to our loca taste in terms of sweetness. Making it too sweet here in Nigeria might make them lose sales while in another country if it is not sweet they won't buy it.

It is the same way KFC in New York will have different taste from the one in Japan.
Thank you jare, you said it all.

Re: Price Of 50cl Coke In Canada Vs Nigeria by lajidson(m): 11:55pm On May 17, 2025
This is it! You will need to spend more than what you earn per hour in Nigeria to buy coke, but you spend far less what you earn per hour in Canada. The latter has high purchasing power
yemre:
You can't compare prices like that because the economies are different! Labour cost and everything is different while the ingredients/recipe may most likely be the same.

What's the minimum wage in Canada, I don't think it's less than 14$/hr. Do the maths, 14$x40x4x1600 = N716,800. That's the minimum wage for one month in Canada when converted to your Naira while Nigerian minimum wage is less than 10%. As a matter of fact, 70000/4/5/8 comes to N437.50 which is equivalent to $0.27/hr. So, cost of coke in Nigeria is N450 and in Canada is N3700. So, now you see it's even cheaper in Canada. When next you make such comparison, take the context into consideration too.

Peace!

The coke in Nigeria is better than any coke we have here in the US
Re: Price Of 50cl Coke In Canada Vs Nigeria by Originalsly: 11:56pm On May 17, 2025
It's foolish to compare prices like this. Who has to work more to buy the same? ...a Canadian or a Nigerian? Let's break it down.

Minimum wage Toronto ....$17.60 per hour.

Minimum Wage Nigeria N70 000 per month
(40 hrs per week ...4 weeks = 160 hrs .... N 70 k ÷160 = N438 ....N438 per hour

Toronto ..$17.60 per hour ..... Coke ...$2.49

Nigeria ... N438 per hour ....Coke N400.

The guy in Nigeria works for one hour...and has to do some begging to buy one bottle of Coke.
The guy in Toronto works for one hour and can buy 7 bottles of Coke. Is Coke really cheaper in Nigeria? We need to stop this out of context nonsense comparison

2.5 Canadian dollars is less than half of what a minimum wage worker earns in an hour. Using that analogy, it's like buying same coke here at ₦120.
It's even relatively more expensive here.

WAIT WAIT canned milk isnt milk and indomie is chemical, elaborate more pls
casualobserver:
All coke is bad but theirs is worse than ours. We use sugar, they use high fructose corn syrup. Bad as sugar is corn syrup is worse!

What you displayed there is an inferiority complex plus arrogant ignorance!

Above American coke
Below Nigeria coke

Also note the amount of sodium in their coke compared to ours!

Don’t allow slave mentality to lead you astray, not everything foreign is good!

My advice to you: stay away from American foods. If you must consume foods from multinationals pick the one Made for the European market and avoid the one made for the North American markets. American market foods are all chemicals!

I go to supermarkets and I see all these groceries from America and I think to myself “my people suffer from lack of knowledge”. Avoid processed foods but if you must pick the one for the UK or European market and avoid anything food from the US!

Th last picture is coke from the UK. As you can see it is sugar not HFCS. They have higher standards for foods in the UK and Europe.

Remmember as a rule: if it is food and from America don’t buy! Canned milk is not milk and indomie is chemicals, it is not food: You will thank me in your old age when you are not dealing with cancer!

EDIT: I’ve just realized they have changed the formula for Nigerian coke and have added sucralose. It used to be sugar alone…..Avoid!

Lol na wah ooh... So in essence most of our processed foods are fake. So all those canned sardines, corned beef, baked beans, sausages etc are probably questionable. Well it's even good cos I hardly consume those anymore apart from mayonnaise and peanut butter. If it's not grown here I hardly consume them. Make man know wetin dey do am

Honestly Economic should be a compulsory subject. Stop converting rubbish.

Although it is technically N2000 plus there are so many variables you don’t see.

Naira lost 100% of its value in a single year and was one of the worlds worst performing currency. Since then real income has not reflected. So although $2 is N2k plus the average Nigerian is still earning same as when dollar was N500.

Labor cost and income level is different in Canada. Instead of converting think of it this way. The average minimum salary in Canada is $2700 whoch will buy you 1350 bottles. Compare to Nigeria where coke is 400 and minimum wage is 70,000 and would only buy 175 bottles of coke.

So relatively it is cheaper than in Nigeria.

Wey proof?

Hopss:
Read about a case some few years back, a man bought coca-cola in quantities and shipped abroad, thinking of the profit he's going to make, when the consignment got to the designated country, it was shipped back to Nigeria , declaring it unfit for human consumption. so the man sued coca-cola bottling company. The following conversation took place
Prosecutor:Why did you produce a substandard product for me to export, there by making me to lose my resources.
Defendant:we never knew you wanted to export it, the drinks we produce in Nigeria is made for Nigerian market and not for export.
So you see, the coca-cola might look same but not the same quality. Mind you this really happened in Nigeria, it's no fiction .

I carried a small bottle coke which will be 25cl at most at a super market and I was shocked the price was 2,600 Naira, when I asked why, I was told it's an imported coke.

Hmmm, so what have we been drinking all this time

You are the one talking nonsense

What is a unit of a currency?

1 unit = 1 naira or 1 dollar or 1 pounds etc.

Meaning that 2 units = 2 dollars or 2 naira

Now tell me what 2 naira can buy for you in Nigeria?

That was what the person you quoted was trying to say. But you misunderstood him

Even 50 naira can't buy you anything in the country as we speak. But 50 dollars can feed you for a whole day in the US
Re: Price Of 50cl Coke In Canada Vs Nigeria by okito: 1:02am On May 18, 2025
Generally, things are more expensive at Shoppers. You can get the same Coke for half the price at some other retail stores. That said, even at $2:50, that's what the lowest earning Canadian makes in 10 mins, whereas N400 is what the lowest earning Nigerian makes officially in 1 hr. We know some people even make less than that 70k per month. Bottom line, purchasing power is much lower in Nigeria. By the way, the lowest earning Canadian will also get child care benefits, rents assist etc monthly from the Government. If you have 2 kids less than 10 years and live in a rented apartment in Manitoba for instance, you could be getting at least $2000 monthly from provincial and federal governments added to your regular wages!
