UTME Glitch: South East Reps Caucus Demands Oloyede's Resignation by fergie001(op): 6:02pm On May 19, 2025
The South East Caucus in the House of Representatives has called for the resignation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, over the glitches in the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

While acknowledging Oloyede’s public admission of the failure, the caucus maintained that accountability must go beyond apologies.

It insisted that his resignation would allow for a thorough, independent review of the failure and restore public confidence in the examination body.

The leader of the caucus, Hon. Igariwey Enwo, in a statement issued Monday, noted that the response of JAMB had been grossly inadequate.

The caucus cited poor communication, scheduling conflicts with ongoing WAEC examinations, and the short notice given for the resit, adding that the situation has caused unnecessary trauma for students and families.

To this end, the caucus called for the immediate cancellation of the 2025 UTME and the fixing of a new date, preferably after WAEC and NECO examinations to ensure no student is disadvantaged.

The caucus also demanded the suspension of key officials responsible for JAMB’s digital operations and logistics.

It said: “Over the past week, we have exercised restraint, hoping that JAMB would provide effective remedial measures to address what is clearly a catastrophic institutional failure — one that has severely shaken public trust and the confidence of students and their families nationwide.

“As a caucus, we are deeply concerned, as all five South-eastern states we represent were directly affected by these so-called ‘score distortions’.”

The caucus reminded JAMB of its constitutional duty to guarantee equal and adequate educational opportunities for all Nigerian children, a responsibility they said had clearly been violated in this instance.

It noted: “While we acknowledge Professor Oloyede’s openness in admitting JAMB’s failures, we must state unequivocally that the remedial steps taken so far fall drastically short of our constituents’ expectations.

“JAMB’s knee-jerk, fire-brigade approach has been anything but adequate. Students in the South-east—many of whom are currently writing their WAEC examinations—were given less than 48 hours’ notice to appear for the rescheduled UTME.

“We must remind Nigerians that JAMB, as a government agency, is duty-bound to uphold the fundamental obligations of government to its citizens. The framers of our constitution recognised the central role of education in national development. Section 18(1) of the 1999 Constitution clearly states: ‘Government shall direct its policy towards ensuring that there are equal and adequate educational opportunities at all levels.’

“By recent judicial pronouncements, this provision now constitutes an enforceable right for every Nigerian child. Sadly, for the thousands of students across the South-east, the flawed and tainted conduct of the 2025 UTME has effectively denied them that right to equal and adequate educational opportunities.”

I like Oloyede but he has to resign immediately for the integrity and reputation of that institutions. The confidence is lost already and should allow fresh mind to come because he can never conduct an acceptable exams at the JAMB again.

You are already falling into their trap!

The "glitch" was an inside job, an act of sabotage.

A spill-out from the hundreds of miracle centres discovered in the South East, and the "Mmesoma" saga; IT'S CORRUPTION FIGHTING BACK!

Oloyede's time as registrar is almost up, BUT acceding to this disguised "blackmail" should be the last thing he does.

Instead, the ICT TEAM responsible for the "Human Error" should be named, investigated, and prosecuted.

1. I think he should resign
2. I think it is a mistake to make the call on behalf of South East Caucus considering all what we know about Nigeria
3. A certain gentleman at FIIRO Oshodi Chima Igwe was involved in a fake PhD scandal we did not hear PEEM from this Caucus. They never called for resignation. As a matter of fact after his removal they plotted to reinstate him
https://punchng.com/minister-senators-plotting-to-reinstate-disgraced-fiiro-dg/
4. Ogbonnaya Onu who was the Minister in charge defied Buhari and tried to promote him after he was demoted and even undergoing criminal investigation
5. The same Caucus came out to make a lot of noise when one of THEIR OWN Mmesoma was engaged in another forgery scandal
6. When you see this sort of hypocrisy from them you can never take them seriously. Instead of making it a national issue they want to make it a South East issue which will trigger a Yoruba versus Igbo controversy . Maybe that is their intention but then these people are not known for their long term thinking. They never think far ahead and always fail to examine their own antecedents
7. By the way Chima Igwe was not the First person to fake a doctorate degree . That distinction went to another person Dr Ikejiani who presented a fake DsC and was made Pro Chancellor of the University of Ibadan by Nnamdi Azikiwe
8 When his fraud was discovered Azikiwe refused to remove him until the Univeristy dared him and threw the impostor out.
9 Azikiwe rewarded him with another appointment

10. So whilst I agree that the Registrar should probably resign . The fact that Igbos are callling for it means he should go nowhere

Its not just a coincidence that the entire south east state were affected. It obviously smells delibrate.
Children from my village were even complaining that some of them saw the rescheduled centre hours before the actual examination time.

Everything u der this Tinubu's calamitious administration reeks of gross failure and incompetence.

Lagos was worse hit. Our brothers and sisters from the S/E should rest. A re-sit had been successfully arranged for the affected areas, fair enough

These people and victim mentality. I thought someone said the person in charge of IT at jamb is an Igbo person? Why are they not calling for his sack?

People will be shouting Lagos is worst hit as a reason why the South East should not be angry. If an Igbo man was the JAMB head and all six States of the West was affected will they tell me that they will take it easy with the JAMB boss. Because any time Igbo people complain they will be saying they are playing victim mentality. I am not an Igbo man but I dislike the evil campaign against them. It just show that they are jealous of what they have achieved as a people.
Why will the whole five Eastern State be affected not just one or two and you expect them to be quiet. Una be really yeye people.
