The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) wants everyone to know that it is a crime to run a business in Nigeria using a name or acronym that is not properly registered. This includes companies, partnerships, or business names.

What You Must Know:

1. You must register your business name with CAC before you can legally operate in Nigeria.

2. Use your registered name and number on all your business signs, letterheads, advertisements, and documents.

3. Don’t use a fake name or number in any document or publication. If you do, you can be jailed for up to 2 years and fined daily until the issue is fixed.

4. Act Now: You have 6 weeks from April 29, 2025, to meet all CAC requirements. If you don’t, CAC will take legal action.

2024 annual returns are opened for filing

First annual returns for all registered businesses with CAC is filed after 18 months of registration.

By 30th June 2025, the default fee of N 5, 000 applies and your business name stands the risk of being delisted from CAC.
