My dear, don't go into that business o.
Nigerian youths eeh; 97% are criminal minded. Not exaggerating, including the so-called pastors, they are worst as a matter of fact!

My husband didn't realise his okaba riders he bought a brand new bike for were playing him until he started riding a bike himself, doing the business himself. He realised he was being robbed in broad daylight by his former riders, not one but three different persons, same thing before be decided to try it out himself. Under six months, he bought a brand new ladies bike for me, that was 4 years back. Now one bike is over a million naira now, no sensible person Should throw such amount into the dubious hands of Nigerians in the name of doing business.

You mind sharing your strategy and which state is this?

I had taken a loan for a business, when I was informed to invest in the cash cow business called Uber. So I bought a Honda Tokunboh gave it out on HP with a 2 year repayment plan. Please the driver had no money to drop for deposit still agreed to HP to get his commitment. The 1st week he was involved in an accident. Fixed the car, 3 weeks later the car side mirror was damaged in robbery attempt at mile 2. Agreed delivery was N40k. Per week. I was only seeing N15k per week and then other weeks no delivery. The week he delivered N25k the highest he ever did, checked my phone for his movement he had driven the car to Ibadan and back, add all trips done in Lagos all he could give was 25k. Retrieved the car within 3 months sold it off to offset part of my loans. To get a God fearing driver will take the Grace of God.

He buys Nissan bus every three months.Recently diverting into mini bus now. I want to meet him to mentor me. But for sure I know that he is a no nonsense man. He monitor his bus driver bumper to bumper.

I like this discussion as I have learnt 1 or 2 things from all the persons wey chuk mouth for the matter.
I want to ask if all the negative feedbacks proffered here apply to wheelbarrows.
I intend to buy like 5 wheelbarrows for hire on daily or weekly remital.

You can't give a proper review of transport business with 7 months experience. To start with, you are yet to recoup ur investment capital with that 7 months. Such short duration is equally not yet enough time to experience the full scale maintenance aspect of the business, what U are currently encountering in 7 months is minor maintenance. So ur review is inconsequential for now.

Meanwhile, I'm not outrightly condemning the business for you though, but make sure u are equal to the task. Being equal to the task means being ready for case, because it will be occurring once in a while. If you are business inclined, there are far better businesses you would have done with that money, with peace of mind, and grow it big. I'm talking from experience.

I did transport business through out my school days. I started with Okada business during my ss3 in secondary school and grew it to tricycle business before I graduated from university. I bought my 1st bus for motor business before l left for NYSC camp. Before I finished my NYSC, I still bought Golf-3 which I gave out for taxi. It was after my NYSC that I removed my hand from the business and moved to Lagos.

I wouldn't want to believe that u grabbed money from somewhere and rush to invest on bikes, probably because of what ur supposed manager must have told you. On a normal ground, you suppose to start with 1 or 2, and run it for a full one year before injecting more capital into the business, which would have enabled you to get proper feasibility study of the business.

Ensure you have a serious contact at police, because you will likely be needing it soon

While I appreciate your input, you should also know that there's something called Grace. The same business others will do and fail, some people will do it and succeed very well.

To your point, I have only visited the station once because police were demanding for the original copies of the bike papers.
Also, some riders have gotten involved in minor accidents, but that didn't stop the business from running. Like I said, I have my strategy and it's working very well.

My manager has a bunch of riders on standby to take over any bike once there's a default or any issue. For instance one biker was involved in an accident which prevented him from working for close to 2 weeks. But that didn't stop the bike from working as someone else took over.

Lastly, to your point about making back my capital, you don't even know how much the bikers remmit per day, so you are just assuming that I haven't gotten back my capital.

That business is for agberos (both young and old) , if you don't have it in you, don't venture into the business.

I met a man in 2018, he (should be in his late 40s) was crying about how his family was going through hell financially because the owner of the car he was driving as taxi retrieved the car. So, I asked him about the arrangement between him and the car owner and what actually lead to the retrieval. So he said he delivers 2500 every day, he also fuel the car while the owner takes care of every repairs on the car. He also goes to the owners house every morning by 7am to pick the car and return it every evening before 10 pm.

So, according to him, the fallout that lead to the retrieval was because he told the owner that it is difficult for him to always come from his far place to take the car every morning and return it in the evening and then take the same far route to his house, so he wanted the car owner to allow him keep the car, and only bring it as requested by the owner. This was a packaged lie!

Having listened to his predicaments, I remembered that my mechanic had told me about a decent Nissan (popularly used for taxi too) that was up for sale. My mechanic (who I trusted well till now) confirmed the good state of the car. I also drove the car my self and it was so sound.

So, I did some calculations, and then decided I will get him another car (the Nissan) for the taxi business, we will work with same agreements with his previous car owner, except that he will now enjoy the comfort of keeping the car with him in his house. Mind you, his house is less than a minute of pleasure walk from where I was leaving at the time. We also agreed on a specific route for his business, which was the route I take to work then.

Man was so happy roll on the floor thank me profusely and all that... So the business started. After about 2 months, wahala started. Almost everyday is for one repair or the other. I changed fuel pumps many times, tyers, even battery, things that should normally last on a car. He will never take the car to "my mechanic" as agreed, always with excuses that he wanted to do the fix quickly to get back to business, but still come back to complain the he couldn't go back to business due to work/repairs on the car.

In short, I found out that (1) this guy works all through the night some many times and to almost everywhere in the world (no delivery to me on that, but I must take repairs of all damages ) (2) he only put fuel in the car enough to put off the low fuel light, and use the fuel until the car Jacks off due to finshsed fuel. He does this because he believes I may what to take or use the car (wic I shouldn't because I have my personal car then), and then I won't get to use a drop of the fuel he bought. This was the reason for the frequent fuel pump damages. (3) He planned to take owner ship of the car, hope that I will get tired of the losses in the business and reconsider his initial request for higher purchase.

Immediately I found these and more out and confronted him with proofs. I warned him, but he didn't stop. So, I retrieve the vehicle. He and his family came and were rolling on the floor again, but I was done! I sold the car at the best possible price with the help of my mechanic, and when I did my calculations again, I have lost 400k+ in the 7 months of that bad business, initiated absolutely on emotions.

I've learnt never to be emotional with people. No should be NO. If you reconsider, person go cry

If you want peace of mind carry the driver to shrine to swear, very simple . Me I can't invest my money to receive rubbish

Yes, destiny are never the same. I actually didn't condemn your business, neither did I say that I didn't make something out of it when I did the business as a student. I only said that if you are business inclined, that there are better business with better prospects you would have done with that money, with peace of mind.

Transport business gave me my first real life business experience as an ambitious young boy, but after I finished my NYSC and relocated to Lagos, I always laugh whenever I remember my transport business days. I did it as a result of my limited business idea back then. I can't imagine myself doing such now.

Talking about having a manager, that is the basic aspect of the business na, except when the business owner is equally a driver himself. I see it as lazy people business, or people with no business idea.

About not knowing how much U are generating from the drivers, I don't know ur state, but it's almost impossible for you to recoup the money you invested on a motorcycle within 7 months, through a driver.

My advice:

Note: every business is a risk. And when it comes to transportation business, there is profit in it if managed well. Please consider the following list when venturing into this kind of business:

1. A detailed Contractual Agreement
2. A God-fearing, trusted and reliable driver/rider (only used a strong guarantor who is worth the BMS)
3. GPS tracking
4. A reliable mechanic (depending on the agreement)
5. Dont joke with No. 1 & 2

6k daily will amount to over 1 million in 7 months. I only buy engine oil and make repairs above 10k. The riders are responsible for repairs less than 10k.

Don't.
I started my transport biz with this and I later quit this method, though I'm still in transport biz. Those riders will stress you out. They will be making money but won't pay you regularly whatever you agreed upon. Na to be chasing them up and down. One even sold my bike

There are better ways to do this business. you must be ready to trust your driver and put away negative reports you have heard from people. I hav done transport and still doing it now.
My model for running taxi business is daily returns and my strategy involves using my first driver to bring other drivers. also having a single mechanic and electrician for the cars. My driver can not repair my car anywhere without my consent and thats why most of the bad guys cant work with me. I dont waste time to collect my car from bad guys and I dont manage parts for repairs. I use new tyres for my vehicles and I think the model is working for me. The main issue is dont borrow money to buy the car because you will be under pressure when the car is down or rather have other means of paying back your loan. Transport business is realy good and helpful. thanks

Partnership , it still works but then , after our experience with Cross-Country transport co . I lost faith . ABC , GIGm looks more organized.

Lazy people can't raise money that is enough to buy a motorcycle. May be because of limited business idea or environment
