It sounds like you're really shaken up about what happened with your phone and charger. Let's break it down: *What likely happened:* 1. *Overheating or electrical issue*: The smell and damage to your phone's charger port suggest an electrical issue or overheating. 2. *Charger or phone port problem*: The charger or phone's charging port might be faulty, causing the overheating or electrical issue. *Possible causes:* 1. *Faulty charger*: The charger might be damaged or of poor quality, leading to the issue. 2. *Phone port damage*: The phone's charging port might be damaged, causing the overheating or electrical issue. 3. *Overcharging*: Although your phone was only at 60%, overcharging can sometimes cause issues. *Why it didn't happen with your wife's phone:* 1. *Different phone model*: The Samsung A16 might have different charging requirements or protection mechanisms that prevented the issue. 2. *Charger compatibility*: The charger might be more compatible with the Samsung A16 than your phone. *What to do next:* 1. *Use a different charger*: Try using a different charger to see if the issue persists. 2. *Check your phone's charging port*: Have your phone's charging port inspected and repaired if necessary. 3. *Be cautious*: Be careful when charging your phone, and monitor it for any unusual signs like overheating or strange smells. I'm glad you tested the charger with your wife's phone and it worked. Hopefully, you'll be able to identify the root cause and prevent similar issues in the future. |

The problem with Nigerians is that they use anything and everything to charge their phones, and then blame the companies. Each device has a charger specification to use. Anything outside that range, especially roadside chargers, will damage your battery, wear it down faster, or something as bad as this. Next time, use specified chargers. Also, plug your device on a voltage regulator, not directly. Or at least use these fridge guards instead of direct charge. |

akinmusi:Depends on what the output voltage of the laptop Charger is. If it is 5V or a PD charger there is no "excess voltage". And laptop charges are generally built better. Too many variables to decide. Were you using a surge protector with the charger? It could be a surge which damaged the charger which sent too high voltage to the phone, caused by the fluctuating electricity. Or it could be an issue with the phone battery. I would take the charger out of service until you can figure out what caused what. Your phone at a minimum needs a new battery and charging circuit, not sure other circuits/components weren't damaged. And I reread your post. What compelled you to test the charger in an undamaged device? You are lucky you don't have 2 broken phones. |

It is not advisable to charge your phone with the pouch on. It causes the battery to over heat. |

Also, the way that device is burned, I would be very careful with it. Li-Ion batteries(used in phones) can catch fire. esp. damaged ones. |

Cmanforall:The A16 is this years release of that A1x line. Unless it's a total fake from China, (which you would be able to tell), it's most likely original Samsung and purchased a few months ago. That being said the A1x line aren't very good devices. |

| Re: This Happened To My Samsung A16 (Photos) by IjeBos(m): 2:57pm On May 20, 2025 |
I use an automation to charge my devices at the lowest speed overnight. Lower speed, less heat, prolongs the battery. |

Offpoint1:I read a lot of these posts here. There is nothing wrong with this as long it's a good quality charger that delivers the right output voltages for the phone. A 5V USBC charger is 5V USBC charger. The phone will negotiate the current. If the phone and charger is PD, they will negotiate both the Voltage(5V, 9V, 15V, 20V) and current. But again, you want a good quality charger. And I'd take a good quality well built laptop charger over a by the roadside phone charger. I travel with one 90W USB-C PD charger for all my devices. |
