A large crowd of Lagosians was filmed in a long queue struggling to collect a loaf of bread. To maintain order, several military personnel were on the ground to control the crowd. This has triggered a lot of reactions online.

I trust the Nigerian people this time around, the Buhari catastrophe happened in our eyes, it's recent history no worry.

Most sane and right thinking Nigerians will resist a repeat.

Guess you are seeing what accrues to private pockets from this write-up.

That's why the opposition members without strong principles are decamping to your ruling party to enjoy their proceeds in peace without scrutiny.

Hope you are satisfied with that answer.

With benefit of hindsight one can say, with a very slim margin of error, that is what they will work towards stealing from the public till under the pretence of constituency projects. Until we ensure that corruption has dire consequences Nigeria remains a joke!

I still don't know why executive allow lawmakers to be inserting whatever they wish into budget ...... claiming democracy and constuency projects, YET, no where in the country where we can see, the so-called constuency projects.

Democracy Na scam.
Still imagine the fake story they sold for us during the military era about democracy.

Very unfortunate, the leader of such struggles worse than dictators, he was fighting then.
The executive themselves are also inserting and inflating contracts so it's a i chop and u chop something everyone involved in the passing of the budget has to be settled before it can finally be signed by all parties just like what we see in most govt offices.

From humongous budget padding of the 10th National Assembly to Peter Obi ?

Is there a correlation with this response or there is a neuro-psych issue that needs attention.

These people are meant to check the excesses of the executive as an independent arm of Government.

We can now see crystal clear the reason for the defections two (2) years before another election.

The defections are not just strange but very suspect.

No new milestone in the polity, excruciating poverty, mass unemployment, poor power supply but just few billionaires emerging from the National till.

2027 will be the reward time for those guys.
this is just saying it exactly as it is. It is really so sad that the current crop of leaders care more about their pockets than moving the nation forward.

Remember when Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, was suspended simply for exposing the rot in the 2024 budget after alleging that over N3 trillion was padded into the budget? Nigeria is not just a crime scene; it’s a well-oiled criminal enterprise masquerading as a democracy. Let’s not sugarcoat it. Nigeria is not just broken; it is irredeemable. The decay is too deep, the rot too entrenched, the conscience of leadership long dead and buried. Every institution that should safeguard democracy has been hijacked. The legislature, meant to provide checks and balances, now functions as a rubber stamp for executive impunity. The judiciary is either compromised or complicit. The executive rules like a monarch, not a servant of the people. Our lawmakers, who rank among the highest paid in the world, have perfected the art of looting under the guise of legislation. They don’t represent the people; they represent their stomachs and those who grease their palms. The National Assembly, constitutionally designed to check the excesses of the executive, has become its willing puppet. Rather than question or scrutinize, they genuflect. We now have a Senate that sings "on your mandate we shall stand" like a choir of sycophants, with the Senate President as the conductor of this disgraceful symphony of submission. This isn’t a government; it’s a cartel.

does this one know the meaning of "leadership"?

the senate president, speaker of the house that are supposed to provide leadership and direction for the house are from which party?

are you saying that the senate president and his counterpart in the house of rep are not aware that N6.93t in the national budget?

are you saying that the members of the budget committee are operating outside the leadership of the national assembly and as such do as they please as far as the budget is concerned?
Re: National Assembly Inserts Projects Worth ₦6.93 Trillion Into 2025 Budget by U09ce: 3:51pm On May 20, 2025
National Assembly is now one of the most lucrative public office in the country, thanks to these insertions otherwise called budget padding. A budget outlines the expenditure and revenue plan, so if you have a bastardised budget no one needs to tell you that your plan is dead on arrival.

But there's a flip side to this issue. Over the years, the public have forcefully added projects to the mandates of their representatives. Hitherto, their broad functions were lawmaking and oversight. But today, a rep with ten bills to his name might get stoned in his constituency if he doesn't attract projects. And there's no way they can get such projects except through insertions in the federal budget. We're in for a long thing. I don't see this trend backpedalling anytime soon
