But find a way and learn a skill.
Also be SMART, take advantage of all forms of opportunities

I agree totally with you.
The problem with the average graduate is that they are so so so rigid to life and not flexible.
You see those guys driving danfo, trucks/trailers, cow/goat butchers, keke drivers etc are making good money on daily basis. It is just that due to their little exposure, you won't like their lifestyles.
All they do with the money is to drink beers in the evening, bang women, wear dirty clothes, build face me, i face you houses etc.
They are not polished or refined the way the educated would have done. So it makes people look down on them and their jobs.
In my area, the alhaji my wife so buy cow from shares 1 cow with a partner veeryday and believ me, you can't buy 450k cow, divide it into 2 and not make nothing less than 30k profit per day on your own half.
Even a goat seller can't make nothing less than 15k killing 1 ogufe per day at a junction.
My ogufe seller kills 3 on a good day and 1 on a bad day.
There are alot of things to do but the graduates are not trained nor prepared for such life after school.
They all become depressed and suicidal.
If they are not thinking of working in office with AC, it will be travelling abroad.
Thanks for the analysis

Learn a digital or tech skill and start earning money online. You have wasted nine years already, it doesn't take too long to learn a digital skill. If you switch off and make YouTube your companion, I bet you'll be telling a different story in no distant time.

Everything you need to succeed is there on YouTube. Pick a skill and learn free on YouTube. Dedicate six months and learn rigorously. SMM, Social media management, Google Ads management, Google Analytics, Lead generation, Copy writing etc....learn something and become very good at it!

You can take free courses that give certifications to validate your competence.

Go to LinkedIn, open a profile, update it and state the services you can offer. Eg, I help businesses drive quality leads, I help businesses maximize ROI via Google Ads management etc...

Always make daily posts in that niche to build authority. Add decision makers and potential clients as friends. As you post daily, you begin to attract attention. Eg SaaS content writer, newsletter writer, just research what businesses would likely need and stick to that.

Over time, people would start reaching to you. You can offer free services initially to validate yourself and build social proof and testimonials. When you have gotten a hang of it, then begin to charge for the services.

So just believe and chase without relenting. I must also add that it takes a lot of discipline, but if you are determined, you can pull through and start making money monthly.

If work eventually comes, you then decide what you want.

Gracias!
Accessing the internet is not a child's play now. No job how can he do that. I tried downloading a beautiful skilled video and it was 25 hrs +, 3g data cannot even do that. Bit he has to keep fighting.

What's your opinion on learning Forex trading?
Re: Unemployment: It looks like a wasted my youthful years going to school by Gerrard59(m): 3:47pm On May 20, 2025
OP should use his education to go into trading, especially if your head cannot carry tech. Yes, you have been unemployed for almost a decade. So what are you doing about it?

Go into trading. Even diasporan returnees with foreign education, foreign work experience and strong passport are into trading.

The rate of unemployment in this country is just alarming. I finished school since 9 years ago, till date no job.
Funny enough, the Marwa guys are even living good than most graduates. I was told it's either I buy a job or get special link from the top. How can a common man afford millions to buy a job.
Don't give up on yourself

Just curious:

- What lessons have you learned so far from the experience?

- What sort of openings have you been applying for?

I don't fancy that sort of trading. Yes, I know I am biased, but that is just me. Look for fast-moving/selling products within your area/region. Trading aims to raise a reasonable level of capital for you, which you either plough back into the trading or pivot to another venture of your life.

This is the bitter truth.
Guys doing blue collar jobs - keke drivers, danfo drivers, cow butchers and goat butchers in local market all make reasonable money everyday but graduates are doing shitty jobs.
you have to be shameless in 3rd world countries to make a living.
Only few will get good paying jobs sitting in AC, drinking tea while pressing computer.
And guess what? those blue collar jobs adjust to inflation easily compared to white collar salary jobs that are always stagnant for years.
Reason why you always see civil servants/salary earners always going on strike for salary increment, holding rallies and blocking roads while the so called illiterates and semi-illiterates will look down on adjust their price to inflation - drivers will adjust lagos to ibadan transport fare tomorrow if price of fuel goes up unlike salary earners.
Tomatoes sellers, ogufe sellers etc will all adjust price.
it is up to you to drop your ego and hit the street.
Words if wisdom

One problem with Nigerian graduates is that they don't change careers.

If you know the job prospects in your career is low or the pay is ridiculous, simply pick up a new skill.

Now, to those who are asking what is the importance of education, when you have kids, don't send them to school.

Learn business. Meet all those Igbo guys in Ladipo, Odunade, Oshodi... they hardly want to ever teach, but if you're humble enough and lucky, they may show you the ropes.
As much as the story is touching I was expecting to see this in the story. In the last 9 years that he has been jobless what exactly has he been doing.

Talkisneeded:
So what’s not finishing primary school and success has in common??
Graduates in this part of this world thinks everything should be given to them on a plater,
just because you went to school for five years, nature should place you higher than someone who has learnt how to till the ground for food or do plumbing work for five years…
Plus many of you can’t even defend your so called certificate sefff…

Life can be crazy I know, nature can be cruel, but nature will only reward those who tries and not those that complains
So let me ask you. Why do people got to school? Is it to play second fiddle? What benefit or difference does it make to an educated fellow who cannot live up to his responsibilities? Why do kids get woken very early in the morning before it's dawn - sometimes mama sprinkles water on them to keep them up! Why do kids get enrolled at about three years of age - with some parents paying money just to get them educated? Why pay termly school fees for the next eight, or nine, or ten years at the primary level? Are you Santa Claus?

As if spending that amount is not enough, you continue to the secondary level - spending good money just to buy entrance forms for your wards. Pay their fees. Get them provisions if they live in the school. Spend on transporting them to school and back. Get their textbooks. Get them a lesson teacher, if they are deficient. Pay for their external examination. Spend on Cultural Day and the likes. This continues for another six years or so. Are you a Father Christmas?

As if you have not spent enough, you continue, spending good money and screaming at the top of your lungs when your ward secures university admission. Some might have to make two, three, or even four JAMB attempts. If you ward lives far away from home, you'd still spend to transport them and back.

No relief. Not all all. Not even during the NYSC: who is going to pay for their traveling expenses and accomodation?

Let him complain. We have all been scammed. Education is a scam. If a boy is trained to be a mechanic at about the same age his parents had enrolled him with his peers in kindergarten, he would have become a professional mechanic at the OP's age with a very fat bank account.

A graduate after NYSC in this country is like a naked man in arctic. Everywhere is so freaking cold.

The dividends, promises, and expectation that comes with the tag of a graduate is not what it appears to be. Not in any part of Nigeria, anyway.

It takes at-least sixteen years of intense labour and sacrifice to be a graduate, but what do we get out of it? You can answer this.

Even in developed economies, education in most parts of the world is a scam.

OP, let me tell you something, years back I never believed someone can be in the comfort of your bedroom and be cashing out millions of naira, until I started my freelancing journey.

I made my first cashout from Upwork in January 2021.
Let me advise you as a brother and friend, if you have money, locate a tech school near you and enrol in their Web development or Mobile App development class, learn it well, augment it with YouTube videos.

When you're done, get a laptop and open an Upwork profile, watch YouTube videos on how to write Upwork proposals that gets interview, believe me you will be a big guy in no distance time.

But in all, you must Work and Pray, cos it's all about God.

P.S: it's not only Web Dev or mobile app Dev...you can choose any tech skil you are passionate about and learn it.
someone is looking for job to feed and you are telling him if he has money to learn tech.

What did you study?
What was your grade?
Which institution did you graduate from?
What have you been doing since almost a decade? You cannot say you haven't been doing anything to keep body and soul together.

Nevertheless, the lure of tertiary education would lessen a bit with the spread of multiple means to earn good money and different models of learning. Ultimately, the most important part of one's education are primary and secondary.
