I'm confused, thought the victim was on bike with his dad, hit by a stray bullet aimed at the vehicle
same here. The initial storyline was the deceased was riding his dad's bike with his brother to exam when he was hit by the stray bullet. I don't trust this narrative the police painted here. Rip to the young man

Nigerians deserve what they get
The police said they'll investigate but they've concluded that father of the deceased engaged in a criminal activities and that justified what he got

I don't believe the Police account of aiming at the tyres and hitting the victim who was sitting behind the driver.... the back windshield should've been shattered if that really happened. But looking at one of the photos the right back door window seems to be broken. If so....then I would believe they were aiming to hit the driver but hit the passenger instead. However it turns out.... " in saner climes" the Police will not be charged .... but the driver will face .multiple charges including reckless driving and endangering the life of a minor. The driver is to be blamed period .... why didn't he stop? From the video ... they had him cornered and instead of surrendering he sped away. What if he had hit innocent pedestrians or crashed into other vehicles causing deaths? Is it then we would be shouting why didn't the Police shoot to stop him? I'm on the side of the Police on this one ...no need to cover up. Let it send a message to others.... you try to run from the Police ...expect to be shot.

It seems the majority of Nigerians like and support lawlessness.

Help me answer this.
1. The police say it was a traffic management operation.
How do you enforce traffic with arms and ammunition? What business does the police have with helping a state government outfit to enforce traffic? Armed police for that matter.

2. The police said they put up road blocks to stop the fleeing vehicle.
If there is traffic you are enforcing, which space did the driver get to drive against? If the police have room to set up barricades then there was no traffic impedance in the first place. So why where they there?

3. The police said the officer shot against tires.
How poorly trained was the officer that a shot against tires trained that he hit a passenger?

4. Since when did shooting at vehicles become an acceptable means of stopping a vehicle that wasn't posing harm to anyone?

The police statement is just cock womble.
You are wise

A cooked up story by the Nigerian police just to prevent people from protesting. They will never admit their mistake.

Rip to the deceased. But why was the father driving against traffic? If the press release is true, the police has no fault in this issue. The father also needs to be arrested and charged to court. And lastly, the police needs training in handling their rifle
The press release is true. And luckily there is a video to back it up.

The father himself must be a criminal. You have your child in the car and you were dragging the road with officers like that. What if it wasn't shooting, what if it ended up in an accident. You didn't even consider your child was with you.

Now he has unfortunately lost his son because of his stupid rage.

He caused the needless death. What a pity. His wife should tear him to pieces

Unfortunately, people keep dying everyday in the hands of wicked, carefree and senseless Nigerian Police. An average Police officer in Naija is a drunkard, smoker and careless in dispense of duty. How could u give a rifle to someone that would be abusing drugs and other substances and expect him or her to be tactful in the discharge of duty. It's unfortunate that the teenager just lost his life in the process, but that cock and bull story that the PPRO just released, is the normal life of Police in a bid to continue being on the safe side.

The policeman simply shot at d fleeing vehicle indiscriminately.

You have no time to mobilize and catch up with a vehile already at 60km PH while u still standing beside road.

Their crap explanation is meant for fools.

Calling the driver an idiot will be an understatement.

With the little in this video, what an eyewitness can comfirm are;

* It takes only mad man to. perform this stumt with his twin children in rhe car..

*The driver deserves a mental evaluation.

* The most stupid police officer with a primary school certifivate could easily have taken the car number without resulting to shooting.

* Many are gaily dressed and mad but only few are in the asylum. And even only fewer are roaming
Re: Kehinde Alade: Police React To Death Of Student Killed By Stray Bullet In Ibadan by nairalanda1(m): 5:09am On May 21, 2025
I still blame the driver. He is responsible for the death of his son

1. He was driving down a one way road wrongly. He could have gotten into a head on collison with a driver driving the right way. People die, and we will all blame government for not doing their job.

2. He drove through barricades set up by law enforcement. In saner climes, he could be arrested and charged with attempted murder , as the car would be considered as a weapon in this case.

3. Anyone trying to force his way through a Nigerian checkpoint is going to be labelled a criminal...with good reason. Many of us don't read stories of armed robbers trying to speed and shoot their way through police checkpoints (and when Boko was bombing targets across NIgeria, many of their agents often times attacked police checkpoints). The police had every right to suspect he was a criminal. Not a dad trying to get his son to school on time. A criminal.

4. The police used firearms to stop him....because they do not have the non-lethal equipment like road spikes to stop him.(A similar chase in the US would have involved another unit of policemen putting up road spikes, letting the man drive over them, and then chase him, while the car slows down until the guy is forced to stop)

5. The honest truth is Nigerians do not obey road and traffic instructions. I have almost been hit twice by cars going the wrong way on traffic. People routinely jump red lights...with the risk of hitting other cars...and so forth.

While the Police should not have fired at the car....the fact remains, that the man HAD NO EFFING BUSINESS DRIVING THE WRONG WAY DOWN A ONE WAY STREET. He was wrong to have done that, and now he has lost his son. Obey before complain.
Re: Kehinde Alade: Police React To Death Of Student Killed By Stray Bullet In Ibadan by Kingdomb: 5:13am On May 21, 2025
First of all this is not a stray bullet. It's a gunshot directed to kill the boy and the father by the police without any confirmation of who the occupants were.
The Nig police force remains the worst police in the world this can't happen even in the least African nation not to talk of Abroad.
Name of shooter was withheld and they're telling his under investigation this was an open shooting weren't they trained to target when shooting this people are telling us that the tired was targeted targeting the tire was like targeting the ground how did it fly above.
I am expecting the IG and presidency to react with complete dismal of the shooter and the whole team should be detained. We're crying of Herdsmen, kidnappers, Bandits, Bolo haram but Police remains the most dangerous to us in our everyday life. Those who joins police nowadays are those that never had option again the have messed up the profession in Nigeria. Shame

Irresponsible father! So sad an innocent life was lost

US police would do worse
US Police would

1. Have a police unit set up road spikes ahead of the driver...so that the offender would drive over them...and puncture the tire. The chasing officers will keep chasing until the driver is forced to stop because you can't drive on four puncutured tires

2. They will attempt to use their cars to stop the offender. They are trained in specific manouvers to do so..and yeah it is risky.

They only shoot if the driver is attempting to hit a standing policeman with his car.

Obviously, Nigerian police officers don't learn how to aim or they are just too uneducated to understand how to shoot! Why so so many cases or accidental discharge and fatal stray bullets? The police officers we have are too uncouth, very local and extremely dangerous to the public! For traffic offense like driving against traffic, shouldn't the driver be caught on camera and simply served a court summon instead of making the situation more dangerous by chasing him on a busy street? Wow...too many things are wrong with this country and it's mostly foundational problems! 1. Release the full video footage of the whole event
2. Punish the killer openly

Kehinde father simply killed his son, there is no other way to it.
(1) Why is he driving against the traffic?
(2) Why didn't he stopped, when he was blocked by the traffic police?
(3) Why is driving like a kidnapper?

We are in Nigeria, if you see the video footage from the Traffic police as posted to Facebook, you will know the driver is having a skeleton in his cupboard.

May the soul of Kehinde rest in peace.

Read what you wrote again and tell if it makes any sense to you.

Imagine application of live bullet against traffic offenders in our constitution, it would have affected any member of your family by now.

Police will drink alcohol in the morning
Same police will set up ROADBLOCK in the same morning to tax citizens it is supposed to protect
The drunk/powerdrunk personnel will shoot indiscriminately disregarding public safety then release a watery statement like the one above
Smdh

It's terrible how you guys swallow whatever the police dish out and believe them.
This is the same egregious thing you do whenever this same police comes out with their usual distortion of facts to justify their crimes in the SE.
