Without prejudice I think the father as the police officer who shot the guy have 50% blame
Each for the death of the boy .

The man passing one-way is totally wrong , evading arrest and endangering the lives of other road users while trying to evade arrest is also a crime .

However , the policeman firing a direct shot at the man’s car should also be tried for manslaughter . How do u shoot directly at a car simply because the driver won’t stop ? What happens to getting his plate number to effect his arrest later ?
Driving one way is a traffic offence. A traffic offence is not a capital crime unless someone is killed. Las Las you get the license plate and follow up afterwards.

The police are a completely wasted institution. You will observe that the traffic control guys are in shock, but the police literally do not care. All they want to do is leave. They have done far worse than this with no repercussions.

And of course no one in this mess is was really concerned about the rule of law - it was just a shakedown exercise for them. They probably did think the people in the car were yahoo boys.

You really read the body language of the policemen right; they weren't really bothered about the carnage they had caused; they were more concerned about stopping the driver using whatever means is necessary.

Watching the video and reading the press release of the police, I believe they (The police PR team) watched the video several times and then decided to write a story that suits their agenda as press release.

That man too looks like all these men that will not listen to their wife and end up causing irreparable loss to the family. If the man is someone whom the wife has been telling to always avoid passing one-way but rather should go and turn at the next junction; I'm afraid this incident may break their marriage. The deceased child is a twin(Taiwo) and his Kehinde see to be the one in the video kicking the body of the vehicle in frustration. Some women in the wife's shoes will just leave the marriage with the surviving man and leave the man with his strong-head that has caused them to lose Taiwo.

Aswear !

I'm sure the man lives close to that junction where he entered that one-way. I normally see people do that rubbish when they will decide to follow one-way because they live on that side of the road instead of driving down to the front to make a U-turn and join the express the normal way.

The man just put his family in harm's way and our police wey no get human feelings just help him to unalive his son.

There's a lot of lessons to be learnt from that incident

As much as it sounds vague, even in the Almighty USA, dem go pursue you the moment you refuse to stop. Even if you kill two people while running, dem go still dey pursue you

Also, the stupid man was already willing to crush police officers when he was stopped. You saw how he was driving recklessly to escape. One would think he was carrying something suspicious

The officer obviously would answer to opening fire, but the man already gave everyone the intention that he was dangerous.

In summary, a very stupid man.

What I read on twitter was different. According to the users there who live close, they said the police were chasing a yahooboy and in a bid to get him they fired shots at his vehicle only for the bullet to stray and hit the boy.

The moment he began driving recklessly to kill anyone on his way, after being stopped, the matter escalated from one way.

If he was caught, there's no way his charge would just be a one way offence. Attempted murder would be added.

Yes, the man is stupid and the police should've given him a pursuit at least instead of shooting directly at the car.

I doubt if the state government will still not go ahead to prosecute him with this video evidence. Except they just want to let him off the hook for him to grieve

That version is not correct. At least there is video evidence suggesting that he was the one they actually wanted to arrest for following one-way before he started driving recklessly to evade arrest.

Without the video evidence, I would also have believed the twitter version of the story

I don't think they will charge him for attempted murder. He will only be charged for the one-way offence and endangering human life

They may or may not proceed with his prosecution. Remember how the Oyo state government was all gased up to prosecute Oriyomi Hamzat , Ooni's former queen and the school principal over the botched giveaway that led to loss of lives? You know they eventually withdrew the case against them and they were all discharged & acquitted eventually.

Same may happen here.

There is more than one offence there.

Firstly, it was one way.
He was stopped, refused to stopped, and drove his car recklessly with the intent to kill an officer, not forgetting damaging vehicles on the way.

So, which one gan gan you wan actually defend the man with?

I remember a guy caught on one way in Lagos.

As he was trying to escape, he hit a police officer and the officer fell into the lagoon. The officer was unhurt

Lagos state gave that guy 6 months imprisonment.

I don't know about Oyo, but if this was Lagos, without the shooting part, this guy go taste Badagry prison.

The shooting was wrong, they should have pursued him. There's no way he will outrun them with that hos small car vs their rugged pickup patrol van. There's no justification for the man's behaviour and there's no justification for the shooting as well.

Definietly, ewon na prison! If u do the crime, u do the time.

I hate people following one-way with passion. I nearly lost a friend to a useless keke NAPEP that hit hi from behind while driving recklessly on one-way

To show you how stupid he is, the money he will spend fixing his car, would be more than the money he would have paid as a fine.

You have been busted for one way. Why try to climb anybody so you can pass?

It takes a man whose village people have special plans for to have his kid(s) in the car and still be driving in that manner to evade arrest.

What a pity for the boy, his mother, and his siblings.

There’s no benefit of doubt here
Highest offense in road is manslaughter and no law give the police to take laws into their own hands

So if that man was shot, and they found 5 human heads in his car, I am sure your tone will change.

The man gave them every doubt to do so. Why would he be willing to hit officers after he has been stopped?

If you are a Police officer, and you flag a car down, and he refused to stop. Rather, he faces the car towards you to kill you, what would you do?

I am not justifying the shooting, but he threw every iota of doubt away.

Maybe the traffic law in Oyo state is tailored after Lagos own. Remember that in Lagos if u follow one-way, the punishment is forfeiture of ur vehicle after which the vehicle will be autioned by the government to the highest bidder.

Maybe that's his fear and not fine. Whatever the case may be, he is a stupiiid man
