awesomeb1783:Hi. That is one of the characteristics of human beings " change of plans, thoughts, decisions etc as a result of natural or artificial created circumstances which is very understandable to the visa officers. *** Going alone or together doesn't affect your original visa decision. What can bring a little questioning is when you have indicated a family accompanying in your visa application (ds 160) then you appear alone on the day of your interview. ** Respond naturally (say the true reason) to the consular when he or she ask about your wife . No need of cracking the brain for that. 👍 |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by welf99: 3:47pm On May 21, 2025 |
Go with your wife, allow the consular come to a decision. You are a married man and your wife is pregnant doesn't affect your F1 application. The consular would likely ask if its your plan to deliver the baby in the US and if you have made any medical arrangement without recourse to public funds. The decision is yours to prepare well for any situation and with your pregnant wife in the US. If you do not have the financial or have made any medical plans, simply inform the VO that your child would be delivered in Nigeria and your wife and new born would join you later...may be in 6months or even 8 months. awesomeb1783: |

Thanks to almighty. I got my approval today. First time applicant. One of the so called agents on this forum disguising as contributor actually frustrated me. I had to sit myself down what exactly is my problem that I will allow some semi illiterate scam me. I differed my admission and started the process myself, with tips I get here and there on this forum (who is genuine in assisting you will likely not tell you to chat him privately). I didn't do any Mock or study any potential question and answer (no 2 applications are the same). At the end of the day, all went well to His glory. |

I need some help please. I was denied a visa for an F1. I have a deficit of $9K. I used a US company in my DS-160, which I think was a red flag. However, I want to fill out a new DS-160. Should I remove the employer or move the company to a previous employer since I already added them to my DS-160? |

I have a question please. My preappproval request after payment has been pending over for over one month. I raised a ticket and they responded that there is no timeline to the duration of the preapproval. What can I do please? |

Baileyano1:Hello Bailey. The new job cannot pose as a problem. You are a human being who is expected to keep changing for good or advance in life. ** How will a visa officer expects you to not get employment or be surprised when you have secured one ? But do not tell the officer that the new job which you started within 2 months are your sponsor . Also the new job is not sufficient as your tie. For a job to be added as a tie you must have been working for at least 3/5 years with good salary and other remunerations. 👍 |

You can always fill a new DS-160 to correlate with your interview location. In my case, I'd selected Lagos when filling my initial DS-160 but I was only able to get a date in Abuja. So I filled a new DS-160 selecting Abuja. Then I created a ticket on AVITS (the visa portal) and asked them to link my new DS-160 to my visa application while attaching my new DS-160 confirmation that shows Abuja. They did and I printed new Visa appointment confirmation. I hope this helps. omoobaolorire: |

PhD fully funded denied. Transcript. Vo. Why do you want to study in the USA? Ans. I want to study in the us because the us have one of best systems for social work education in world. Cuts in. How many schools applied? Told her. Where do u work: told her the two jobs but the second job wasn't listed on the DS160. Please tips for my next interview. Can I now include the second job on the DS160? |

Yeah, a serious red flag, especially if you were not able to defend using a US company financial statement. Your reasons might be genuine, but in Nigeria? It is what it is! Just be aware that you’ll have to defend any changes made to your previously used DS-160, as they still have those records. So, you need to be very careful with any minor or major adjustments you plan to make. Ensure you have a strong, genuine reason for any changes, and hopefully, you'll get a VO who’s willing to listen and give you the benefit of the doubt. akinpelu746: |

My earlier comment still stands — be very careful with any changes you make to a previously submitted DS-160. It has caused serious complications for some people, complications that only God can resolve. Here’s my advice: if you’re confident you did everything right at your first interview, then prepare yourself and go back for another one. Sometimes, even when you’ve done everything correctly, a denial can still happen. That’s why I don’t rush to condemn denial transcripts. That said, your transcript actually does appear flat. Also, be careful not to verbally say anything during your interview that isn’t already reflected in your DS-160 or your I-20. I wish you success, going forward! Godfreyalfred44: |

| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Godgivenchild: 7:57am On May 22, 2025 |
You can schedule your interview at any location where you eventually find a favorable date, even if your DS-160 was originally submitted for a different location. All you need to do is fill out a new DS-160 for the new location, then raise a ticket on AVITS with your new DS-160 confirmation number and request for an update. Note: It’s safest to do this at least a week before your interview. Although AVITS typically updates records within 24 hours, if you make the change too close to your interview date, it might not be processed in time. This is because preparations for each interview date would have already been made by another department — including the printing of DS-160 barcodes for all applicants scheduled for that day. If you’ve been to the embassy before, you’ll recall there’s usually a list containing the DS-160 barcodes of every applicant for that particular day. ktancing: |

You’re welcome. With this new update, I think you might just be adding more salt to the injury. It’s better to leave it as it is and keep your story consistent. It’s only reasonable to increase your stated salary if you’ve been to the embassy within the past year — and even then, the increment should be logical, provable, and consistent with labor laws and the general logic behind salary increases. So, unless it meets those conditions, it’s safer not to make any adjustments. Godfreyalfred44: |

Hello MikePaulGh, Congratulations on your F-1 visa approval — I’m truly happy for you! However, it’s important I make a few points clear: 1. Nairaland is an open forum, which means anyone can participate here regardless of their work, work ethics, intentions, or experience. It’s your personal responsibility to filter the advice you choose to listen to — whether it’s shared openly or through private conversations. 2. Please avoid generalizing what worked for you or using it as a basis to downplay the value of process, structure, and shared knowledge. Mock interviews and studying potential interview transcripts are valid and beneficial practices. They are part of what helps many people succeed in securing an F-1 visa. I won’t go into the details of their benefits now, but they remain relevant and helpful. 3. Regarding your mention of an agent allegedly trying to scam you — while it’s true that a genuine helper may not necessarily ask you to DM them, it’s also possible that certain information or advice might be better shared privately, given that this is an open forum. If it involves a paid service, that alone doesn’t classify it as a scam. However, if you paid for a service and didn’t get the promised value, it would be responsible to call out the individual so others can be cautious. Once again, congratulations on your visa approval — wishing you the very best in your academic journey ahead! MikePaulGh: |

What would you say was the reason for omitting it in the first place? That’s where the issue lies. One VO might listen to your reason and accept it, another might listen and still not accept it, while another might not even give you the chance to explain and just proceed with their decision and even leave a negative comment on your profile. Princess080:Hello Princess. The Immigration Rule is INA 214(b) which can be summarised as " You are not qualified for various or one reason Or you failed to convince the visa officer of non immigrant intent or genuine intention. Your major reason of denial in your transcript (despite the fact that you have withheld some info) accordng to my personal psychology (not official) is lack of genuine intention . *** The consular was not trilled with your $45k fundings as majority of visa applicants now focuses more in applying to irrelevant programs (not related to their careers & not necessary at the time of their visa applications) all because the department is dolling out fundings in order to attract int-students due to the fact that an international donor has just awarded the department a short or long term Grants. ***. You seems to have travelled to many African countries (general gimmicks in order to proof travel history) hence the question " Have you travelled internationally? " In order to render your local travels useless. *** Your two and a half years is not sufficient years to have gained a better reputation at work (so if you are not married with kids then your job is also not enough to cover your lack of family ties) . *** The visa officer would have placed you on 221g in order to re-verify your Form I-20 but he concluded that your intent is not genuine (even if everything is proven right afterwards). 👍 |

kamsy101:Hello Kamsy If you are the original owner of this transcript then you need a constant and tailored mock training before your re- application (not meant for insult). YOU; Me. I am travel to the city of Edinburg in Texas in USA *** You are suposed to mention the University you are going and the host city and state. YOU; Me. Because I want to expand my teaching career in of ABC *** Do you have a job waiting after your graduation? Is your private schools in your country expanding and attracting foreign students and thus you need international educational certification? Etc. You can expand your teaching career in your country if that is your only reason. YOU ; VO. I see deficits of 40k how will cover that? Me. My late father’s immediate younger brother Mr ABC *** It is even better if the ABC family business will be funding you (in your own case) as a company or organisation instead of one individual who may disappoint you or back out. YOU; Me. Yes i included him as of the modalities needed from my school. *** This is where you upset the visa officer the most. How can it be modality from your host school ? You mean a school will tell an int-student that it is a must he or she apply for F1 visa with the spouse ? ** So the consular detects initial family plan to immigrate with study visas but or probably the plans was disrupted by one or two circumstances. ***. Requesting an F2 I-20s or planning to apply together with your husband is not the reason for your visa denial. But lack of proper explanation & lack of good application (the stories you have joined together) are the reasons. 👍 |

For those who have been placed on AP in Lagos recently and are now approved, how long did it take to get a change of status from refused to approved? Also, will being placed on AP have any negative effect on the outcome of a forthcoming F2 visa appointment? NB: The primary applicant (F1) is the person on AP. |
