Why Alaafin Of Oyo Deserves the Number 1 Spot In Yoruba Land by Biodun556(op):
If not for Oyo, the whole Yoruba land would have been under Nupe or Fulani rule.

Oyo defended Yoruba land against invaders such as Dahomeh, Nupes and Fulanis. One Alaafin even died in the process. Oyo relocated it's settlements several times because of these wars. From Oyo Ile to Oyo katunga and then present Oyo.

Several wars were fought by Oyo to prevent incursions into Yoruba land from the north.

The groups known as Yorubas today were brought together and named by Oyo. Although, Yorubas speak the same language, they were from Ife; the same ancestral home but never had known common name.

Historically, Oranmiyan became Alaafin in Ife before moving to Oyo.

While Ooni is the father, Alaafin is the leader of all the kings.

Ibadan defended Yoruba - Battle of Oshogbo. Olubadan should be the Supreme head militarily which it was rightly in the larger part of the 1800s by installing ajele everywhere which eventually led to kiriji.

In 2025, the Oba of Lagos should now be the Supreme head since Lagos is now the economic power.

Ps: The group called Oruba/Orioba, now spelt Yoruba, in the Early times -1500 (Ife Era) were not the same as the group called Yoruba between 1600-1800 (Oyo Era). Oyo Empire did not include Ife/Ilesha, Ondo, Ekiti, and Ijebus.

The Group called Yoruba in the Oyo era are not the same as the group called Yorubas in the 1900 - present.

Oranmiyan also known as Odede, installed his son, Eweka, in Benin, installed his son, Ajaka, in Oyo and headed to Ife to become an Ooni himself. He left a son called Lajamisan in Ife who the 3, now 4 ruling houses in Ife descended from.

I am closely related to Ileshas and Akure's and as you can see, the oldest existence of human habitation is the cave in Iwo Eleru near Oba ile, Akure

Yes. There are aboriginal Ekitis. Ekitis, Ondo and Ife are very ancient.

Infact, orunmila is from Ekiti and went to Ife (The Lagos of that Era) to ply his trade which is IFA.

Abi, we are not living in the colonial era.

Oyo king is for the Oyo people, Ijebu king is for the Ijebu, oni of Life is for Osun people.

The time of lording over others expired long time

100 percent.
Even in the same Oyo state. The Oyo state house of assembly has now passed a bill for the chairmanship of the Oyo council of traditional rulers to be rotated among Ibadan, Ogbomosho, and Oyo.

Which Oyo defended all south western region of Nigeria?

Same Oyo that Egba, Ekiti (Kiriji war) revolted against and chased off their lands?

Ibadan was originally created by an Ife prince. Ibadan fell when Oyo became an Empire.
After the fall of Oyo empire, Ibadan became independent and became a minister empire on its own and extended further than the reach of Oyo.

The people of Ondo and I guess Ekiti have zero link to Oyo.

Most trace their origin to Ile Ife.

Their Kings accept the Ooni's status. Not Alaafin.

Also, you can’t force yourself to be THE leader. Most Yoruba Kings and people see the Ooni as occupying a uniquely special position.

Ooni is THE leader. Alaafin is A leader, but not on the same pedestal.

Can Alaafin call Ondo or Ekiti monarchs for a meeting?

The Ooni can, and most Obas will have no problem getting in their vehicles are head to Ile- Ife.

Which

1. Oyo defended all south western region of Nigeria?

2. Same Oyo that Egba, Ekiti (Kiriji war) revolted against and chased off their lands?
1. Is correct. Oyo never had control over Ife, Ekiti, Ijebu, Ondo, and Benin as stated by goodvibes earlier.

2. Kiriji was against Ibadan and not oyo. Oyo fell to the fulanis in the 1820-30s, and the Alaafin fled further to the South to their present day location. Clapperton documented this era in his book about the decline of Oyo.

Ibadan rose to power and reigned supreme between 1830 till the end of Kiriji war in the 1880s. Ibadan appointed Ajele (tribute collector) in Ekiti. Something Oyo was never able to achieve.

Kiriji war was between the Ekiti-parapo and Oyo and Ibadan. Ibadan was the war machine of the Old Oyo empire. Oyo did not fall to the Fulanis.

Oyo and the entire South western part of Nigeria fell to the British after the 16 years of the Kiriji war.

Oyo had his own army. You are mixing eras up.
Some of the armies relocated to Ibadan and became independent. Ogedengne trained at Ibadan but was never part of Oyo army.

As per kiriji war. Not only Oyo and Ibadan. It was badically a western vs eastern yoruba war.

The Ife and Ekiti have been bringing up a point that if Oyo hadn't got mixed up in the Slave Trade with the Fulani in the first place they wouldn't have been able to have invade Yorubaland because they wouldn't have been able to find the space or chance operate and gather enough strength or following to do all the damage they did

After seeing what the Jihad did to the once vibrant

Ooni is the Father of Yorubaland
Because the Vision that God Almighty
used to birth Yorubaland was the vision of the Rulers of Ile Ife

They could have sat down own their Thrones in Ile Ife and done nothing but marry the latest Ife beauties and eating the fatest Antelopes and Buffalo meat while having a great grand old time but they didn't do that they had the vision of building kingdoms and a great nation with great abundance for all their unborn Children to enjoy

Oyo enslaved smaller western Yoruba towns and villages under it's control and became very rich. The fulani were the middlemen.

After fall of oyo, the oyos themselves became enslaved by the fulanis. Ajayi crowther and his family were enslaved by fulanis. Ajayi crowther's grandfather was even an Alaafin! Alaafin Abiodun to be precise.

Oyo sold the Hausa victims of the Jihad they bought from the Fulani took them to the Coast and resold them to the Europeans

And after the Ilorin fiasco ,Oyo sold captured Fulani slaves to the Europeans too
Oyo must have sold the most Fulani slaves in all of Africa

That was where the most damage was done

Until after Alaafin Abiodun Oyo wasn't really in the slave trade because it was a capital offence to sell Oyo people as slaves

It was slaves from the north that passed through Oyo on their way to the Coast

After Alaafin Abiodun passed on that was when Aole fully embraced the slave trade and it was under Aole that Oyo went into a slave trade triggered decline
