Immediately I read this comment, it solidified what I realized this is - performative outrage without the willingness to do anything. The classic armchair analyst approach to societal issues.

Right then I realized, 'These people are too lost in themselves to care about anyone else. Completely different from my perspective on life and society.'

Do u know that there's actually a landmark case ; " Mojekwu v Mojekwu" that went up to supreme court and pronounce that the custom is repugnant to discriminate against the female child and that a female child has as much right as the male child when it comes to inheritance?

You can look this up and tell me what U think.

But then, when Nigerians stay away from Nigerians abroad it doesn't help in the long run. I thank that's why we don't have plant Nigerians making it to the top of the ladder like Indians who always carry their people along through networking and vouching for each other

But when it comes to landed properties in the village..women are strictly forbidden to hands off 📴 it in enterity.

Years back I applied for a position in a practice owned by a Nigerian and he was offering me half of what other practices were offering me.

He had seen someone he could exploit or use for slave labour. I don’t think I even replied his email.

What goes on in real life is different though. How many percentage of women wey the thing dey affect will have energy or money to chase this case to that level

And when something is cultural you probably just accept it like that since it's all you know

That's why we need to educate and diabuse the kids of educated people like Sean and others about the position of the law on this matters. So the culture can die a natural death.

If educated people are enlightened, the unlettered would take a cue from it sooner or later. It's not only people in the village that suffer this fate sef, some people in the city who don't still hang on to the archaic culture which supreme court has since ruled as discriminatory.
