Disstroy, nobody begged you to start anchoring events or trailing politicians like a groupie. So don’t come online acting like you’re better than everyone just because you got to hold a mic at some outreach.
If it was really about “love for society,” you wouldn’t be out here throwing shade for applause.
Now I fully believe Diggz, this whole hustle only started after the oil job slipped through your fingers. So spare us the fake moral high ground.

Immediately I read this comment, it solidified what I realized this is - performative outrage without the willingness to do anything. The classic armchair analyst approach to societal issues.

Right then I realized, 'These people are too lost in themselves to care about anyone else. Completely different from my perspective on life and society.'

Debating societal issues endlessly with such people is akin to forcing a dormant volcano to erupt.
Maybe if we had more people laser focused on their immediate sphere of influence, society would be better for it.

Many have been proven to be two-faced even though they appear to be decent and innocent, some critics just want to be noticed to earn a living off performative activism.
There is nothing wrong in maintaining friendship across party lines but calling people who support politicians you despise evil while you're hobnobbing with same people is pure hypocrisy and double standard

Abi o! Maybe if more people were laser-focused on holding themselves accountable and actually owned their mistakes—while making a genuine effort to fix them—society would be in a much better place.

You can’t be confused about whether you’re a microbiologist(https://www.nairaland.com/1944195/biochemistry-microbiology#27168912) or a biochemist (https://www.nairaland.com/2478384/anti-corruption-war-what-nigerians-really/2#36290588) , yet still try to hold Tinubu accountable for his educational background. That’s just plain hypocrisy.

While the sentiment is understandable, there are ways he could have passed the information more professionally and he wouldn't have needed to mention Nigeria.

The Interviewer messed up. There's no need saying all that since he knew they would do background checks.

Nigerians dey slide tackle themselves a fair bit abroad. If you meet a Nigerian where you work it is 50-50 whether the person will have your back or kobalize you.

I don't know how African and Nigerian women were brainwashed & they see polygamy as evil/crime.
That the first wife must give her consent. Rubbish.
You just have to be a good husband to your wives, provide for your children.

Congratulations to Yul & Juddy on the birth of their third child.

Omo. Now I see reasons why some Nigerians avoid fellow Nigerians like plague abroad.

But then, when Nigerians stay away from Nigerians abroad it doesn't help in the long run. I thank that's why we don't have plant Nigerians making it to the top of the ladder like Indians who always carry their people along through networking and vouching for each other

Swiz123 I remember a while ago we had a discussion on female child not being entitled to inheritance in some cultures (including the Igbo culture). You seem to hold a belief that the culture is sacrosanct (if I can remember Correctly)

Do u know that there's actually a landmark case ; " Mojekwu v Mojekwu" that went up to supreme court and pronounce that the custom is repugnant to discriminate against the female child and that a female child has as much right as the male child when it comes to inheritance?

You can look this up and tell me what U think.

the supreme court ruling is for women who have the financial muscle and connection to bulldoze their way through those village uncles and elders.. and it quite rare, unnecessary..

How can you marry a husband, inherit the properties in your husbands place, still come down home to cause shortage to your own brothers at home..the place they married you, don't they have properties there?

Although again, that rule is heavily and mainly on landed properties especially village landed properties..

The rules might have some modification especially in an enlightened family settings depending on the parent involved.

But when it comes to landed properties in the village..women are strictly forbidden to hands off 📴 it in enterity.

Years back I applied for a position in a practice owned by a Nigerian and he was offering me half of what other practices were offering me.

He had seen someone he could exploit or use for slave labour. I don’t think I even replied his email. grin

That is what is expected of the law to say. Otherwise they will be agreeing that one gender is inferior to the other

What goes on in real life is different though. How many percentage of women wey the thing dey affect will have energy or money to chase this case to that level

And when something is cultural you probably just accept it like that since it's all you know

The way a western person sees polygamy as disgusting in other cultures na your mother and sisters go even prepare you for polygamy

Did I tell you one of my family members my grandparents generation na she go select the specific young lady she wanted as 2nd wife for her husband..

So any man wey no get son, the uncles wey no know how he take gather property will share it?

If you are a son or daughter of a deceased person, u are entitled to inherit a part of the inheritance irtepetive of whether u are a male or female. Denying a child her inheritance because she is female is unfair, unjust and against law of natural justice. It is discriminatory.

If a man dies and leaves his wife and children his properties, it is not in Ur place as a male relative to start questionibg why the man decided to provide for his family.

Any culture that has issues with this is fair and in line with fairness and equity.

That's what the law is saying.

Even if the woman doesn't have financial muscle to do any court case, any human rights group can help her get her rights legally

That's why we need to educate and diabuse the kids of educated people like Sean and others about the position of the law on this matters. So the culture can die a natural death.

If educated people are enlightened, the unlettered would take a cue from it sooner or later. It's not only people in the village that suffer this fate sef, some people in the city who don't still hang on to the archaic culture which supreme court has since ruled as discriminatory.

Over time the thing will die

Think of a rich educated man who has only daughters knowing what the culture says. He will already use legal system and will to protect his daughters

E.g Give all your property to a Trust, then make your daughters directors of the trust

God help Seankafor make he born only girls, na him sef go carry machete face any uncle wey Wan collect his properties and deny his daughters

Most men even Seankafor usually like their daughters a lot
