A new Centre for Islamic Studies, named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was officially commissioned on Saturday in the Danbushiya community of Kaduna State. The educational facility, DARUL ILM, was built and donated by the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, with support from friends and associates.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun.

The Sultan, while addressing the gathering, emphasized Nigeria's abundant human and natural resources, expressing hope for the country's future despite current economic challenges.

"He lauded the initiative, particularly noting that the school was built for orphaned children by a non-Muslim using personal funds, and called it "a very big statement."

Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, echoed sentiments of optimism, stating that the government's economic reforms are beginning to yield positive results. He cited signs of improvement such as economic growth, increasing foreign reserves, stabilizing inflation, and decreasing prices for food, petroleum, and energy. Edun expressed confidence that these policies are on the right track and will soon lead to economic stabilization and job creation across various sectors.

Represented by Alhaji Ahmed Zarma, a retired DSS Director, Mr. Ajayi explained that the centre is part of his broader efforts to foster trust between the government and the public and to enhance internal security through citizen engagement, interfaith dialogue, and policy discussions.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, represented by his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, praised the DSS Director-General's vision, emphasizing that the school embodies hope and a commitment to education and humanity.

The highlight of the event was indeed the announcement that the newly built centre would be named the "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Centre for Islamic Studies."

Whilst commendable, is this not against the Code of Conduct for Public Officers?

Buratai as COAS built an Army University in Biu, in the name of the FG, the Nigerian Military funded it

Sadique Abubakar as CAS built an Air force University in his home State of Bauchi, same owned, financed by the FG.

They didn't build these schools in personal capacities, but as serving Security Chiefs, their contributions stopped at pushing for it and the financing was budgetted for. However, in this case, it's the DG doing so with friends in his personal capacity (conflict of interests). So Egbetokun can now gather friends and build a school in his capacity? That's wrong.

There is a difference..... He didn't use the DSS because he knew it was not in any core mandate of the DSS as it had nothing to do with security or intelligence.
