Update On Extortion Incident Along Benin Bypass by Bullet01(op): 4:00am On May 28, 2025
Following the circulation of a viral video showing acts of extortion by police officers along the Benin bypass, the Nigeria Police Force, in line with its zero-tolerance policy on extortion and unprofessional conduct, has taken immediate action.

Upon their arrival at the Force Headquarters, the six erring officers, including their supervising officer, a Chief Superintendent of Police, were marched in to appear before the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun Ph.D, NPM, who condemned their actions as shameful, distasteful, and utterly unacceptable. He further ordered the immediate commencement of disciplinary procedures against all six officers involved.

Accordingly, the officers have been queried, while orderly room trials for the Inspectors implicated in the video have commenced.

This reiterates the Force's commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity and accountability. The public is assured that such misconduct will not be tolerated under any guise, and appropriate sanctions will be meted out in line with established disciplinary procedures.

Better...we will not tolerate indiscipline and unprofessionalism in our police force.

Kudos to the IG...this will serve as a deterrent to others.

These things are NORMAL on the highway. What it now means is that the police authority will ONLY act when there's a video evidence against erring officers.

In order words, if you own a car, you need to get either a dash Cam or a hidden camera in your car.
The best option though is to get a Meta Ray-Ban pair of eye glasses 🕶️

With this, you get can video evidence both in your car and outside the car.

Lastly, always make sure your videos are synchronized to your mobile device or the cloud in real-time to avoid detection and possible deletion.

Note: If you want a video evidence that can't be deleted easily, then use Snapchat app when making your videos. These girls have a reason for always using Snapchat for their videos. It's not just the filters, it's the insurance!

I don't like the reactive manner we address things in Nigeria. With the many videos we have seen, the Nigerian Police Force should have put a stop to the indiscriminate check points if truly they are sincere. I am beginning to believe they settle the ogas from the proceed of these extortion.

Corruption on highways is really something else.....

The police knows this but they will only penalized those who's face comes up on social media.....

Don't be surprised, the police will start collecting phones before the extort you, then they return your phone after extortion to avoid being watched...

I swear I've never seen an organisation full of dumb people like the Nigerian police. Incidents like this keep happening over and over with some losing their jobs and still the remaining refuse to learn.

They no dey hear. They believe they cannot be caught. Thanks to technology. More hidden cameras are available. Even some rings on someone's finger nowadays are potential cameras.

They will hear by force.

Let's pretend like they don't remit to their bosses. Like the corruption is at the lowest levels. Na who them catch for camera be thief. While they tell the others to beware of being recorded. Go to their divisions and see the POS stands located by the side so that there'll be no trace of the money entering their accounts. Force men have no need for electronic transfers and detest it.

If you like, pay them 5m monthly , dem go still collect Roger.

Cops around the world even in developed countries are among the least paid workers and they don't go about disgracing themselves

NPF corruption issue is institutional and foundational..
I think it stems from how they were setup during the colonial era..
The colonial officers set up the police to intimidate the populace and that intimidation has been passed down generations

End of the road you say? I laugh in Yaribaa...
Those arraigned officers would remit some percentage to the IGP and then set free to continue extortion...in another location. They may probably be redeployed to your Eastern State. Okija?

Stop telling lies here sir
Pay them the 5m first, then you would have removed all excuses for corruption.

Again the notion that cops are the least paid in the world is a BIG FAT LIE

If you drag the issue further, I’ll give you a breakdown with facts that will show you horribly Nigeria treats its police officers while expecting the best from them
