Abia Government School Lies In Ruins Despite N120billion Education Budget by chopnaira(op): 8:30am On May 29, 2025
A socio-accountability organisation, MonitNG, has raised the alarm over the condition of the Ngodo Central School, Umuologhu, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

The organisation, in a statement, noted that the condition "is a harsh reminder that rural education continues to suffer despite grand policy declarations. As the only primary school in the area, its deterioration is both shocking and unacceptable."

"What remains of the classrooms are crumbling walls, broken ceiling boards, and exposed roofs. There are no chairs or tables; students are forced to sit on bare floors or perch on broken window ledges just to take lessons. This is the reality of learning for young children in 2025," the statement read.

It was further noted that despite repeated appeals from the community, no meaningful intervention had been made.

"The physical condition of the school makes it unsafe and demoralising for both students and teachers. It reflects a broader failure to deliver basic educational infrastructure where it’s needed most."

It was recalled that as part of its education reform, the Abia State Government announced a ₦120billion allocation for the 2025 fiscal year.

"This includes plans to rebuild over 200 model schools, improve teachers’ welfare, and provide incentives to attract top educators. An additional ₦29.5billion was earmarked to construct perimeter fencing in 262 public schools to improve security."

While lauding the commitment of the governor, it was noted that schools like "Ngodo Central remain forgotten."

"If this is the only school serving the children of Umuologhu, why has it been left in ruins? True reform must go beyond announcements. The government must ensure that its promises translate into real, visible change, especially in rural communities where education is the only hope for a better future," the statement added.

A check by SaharaReporters shows that in February 2025, the Abia State governor, on his official X handle, announced the launch of the "Abia Fostering Innovation Reform School Transformation (AbiaFIRST) Education Transformation Programme."
It was noted that "the initiative is not merely about improving school infrastructure but represents a complete institutional reform."

"The AbiaFIRST Education Transformation Programme is a cornerstone of our strategic governance agenda, aimed at the rapid socioeconomic development of Abia State. The programme focuses on the development of school infrastructure, training and retraining of teachers on new trends, recruitment of quality educators, curriculum upgrades to accommodate emerging knowledge, and addressing the malaise of examination malpractices by inculcating diligence and fair competition in our children, among other key issues."

"For the 2025 fiscal year, we have allocated ₦120 billion for various education projects, including rebuilding over 200 model schools, enhancing teachers' welfare, and introducing new incentives to attract top educators. We are also doubling the number of teachers to be recruited this year to meet our ambitious goals and the rise in enrollment figures in our public schools," the statement by the governor had read.

There's no lie anywhere. This article is just calling the attention of the government to a school in deplorable condition. The government should just go and fix it. Budget doesn't mean money; it's a mere financial plan.

Why don't you point out what aspect of the news you are aware is untrue?

Is it different in ebilokan's Lagos empire after 26 years looting, stealing and reckless corruption huh

MathsChic:
Some days ago, I was at a secondary school in Surulere (across the bridge from the Island) in Lagos for a friend's event where he is educating secondary students about the perils of peer pressure. I honestly wasn't expecting what I saw as the state of this secondary school.
It left me wondering if this was a school or a dump yard. Why in heaven's name are Nigerian leaders looking the other way while the young ones study in this sorry environment?

The attached pictures are what I saw. This is no secondary school. It's a hopeless shanty. I hope this gets to front page and attracts the necessary attention.

If there are two (2) governors I know and have seen in recent history to have given attention to education infrastructure they are ;

1, John Kayode Fayemi (PhD)
2, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

JKF when he was the Governor of Ekiti through the influence of his erstwhile deputy Prof. Mrs. Adelabu was able to utilize both UBEC & SUBEB funds for the facelift & renovation in over 85% of all public primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State

Ironically, The most successful and elitist people in Ekiti State are secondary school Teachers.

A sample survey was conducted during the Fayemi regime and it was discovered that more than half of them had their children studying their Masters abroad.

In Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola built mega public schools with big basket ball courts, football pitches and standard mordern structures all over Osun State to the admiration of Non-indigines.

Other states can borrow from that model.

Hehehehehe grin grin grin

It's so apparent just as much as it's laughable how the Igbo-hating, emilokan mob are insanely obsessed with trying to take the wind out of the sails of Obi and Otti...and by extension, the Labour Party that they're in! The day they leave Labour Party, watch as this sad lot will remove their focus on the party and turn it on whichever the party is that the duo have chosen! They despise Otti only because of his association with Peter Obi and the party he's in!

Laughable i tell ya! grin

Re: Abia Government School Lies In Ruins Despite N120billion Education Budget by nairalanda1(m): 10:45am On May 29, 2025
120 billion naira is a lot of money...for one person. For a state education budget it is SCANTY.

Abia state has one state university, and a polytechnic. Half of the budget won't be enough for both of them...or even the whole budget. That is why the university at Uturu had such bad hostels for students...they cannot afford more than that.

And then they have salaries that must be paid, or else. Over half that money is gone.

At best, the rich men in the LGA should donate money and fix the school. But the long and short of the matter is, Abia state needs far more money than 120 billion naira for education....to get a lot of things done.

Short term, it may include things like fees, and more people paying tax. Long term...manufactured goods and services.
