The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, led a high-profile inspection of the newly constructed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus Terminals in Abuja, reaffirming the administration's commitment to modernizing public transportation infrastructure and ensuring passenger safety across the capital.

The inspection team included former governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, among other dignitaries.

A key highlight of the visit was the unveiling of an advanced surveillance system comprising over 40 CCTV cameras strategically installed across both terminals. These cameras feed into a central control room, enabling real-time monitoring of activities within and around the facilities.

“We are not just building terminals; we are building smart, secure, and sustainable infrastructure for the people of the FCT,” Wike said during the inspection. “This is about order, efficiency, and most importantly, safety.”

The CCTV network is expected to enhance passenger security, deter criminal activities, and improve operational coordination. Officials say the control room will operate 24/7 with trained personnel overseeing transit movements, facility usage, and crowd management.

The Kugbo and Mabushi Bus Terminals are part of the FCT Administration’s broader agenda to decongest the city’s traffic grid and establish a reliable mass transit system. Each terminal is equipped with ticketing booths, waiting lounges, restrooms, and designated areas for commercial drivers and traders.

Former Governor Ortom praised the development, noting that “this level of foresight in public transport is what many states should emulate.”

Wike reiterated his administration’s determination to ensure the facilities are maintained properly and used in accordance with the city's urban development plan.

The terminals are scheduled to become operational in the coming weeks, as the FCTA finalizes the integration of route management systems and personnel deployment.
