Irele, Ondo State – May 30, 2025 — In a bold step toward ending period poverty and promoting girls' health, Yetunde Adefuwa, Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor, has led a powerful Menstrual Hygiene Day Workshop at the Irele Civic Center, themed “Together for a Period Friendly World.”

The initiative, organized under the banner of My Sister’s Initiative, aligns directly with the OUR EASE Agenda of Governor Dr. Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, which emphasizes Education, Social Protection, Empowerment, and Infrastructure.

At the heart of the campaign were two core actions: the distribution of sanitary pads and the launch of pad banks across secondary schools in Irele. These pad banks are designed as sustainable solutions, ensuring that no girl is left behind due to a lack of menstrual products.

Speaking at the event, Adefuwa shared a deeply personal motivation behind the initiative:

> “As a teenager, I experienced the fear and confusion of menstruating without access to proper products or information. I know what it feels like to be unprepared and ashamed. This isn’t just a policy matter for me—it’s personal.”

She stressed that the campaign reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to building a society where young girls can thrive with dignity and confidence, especially in educational settings.

Over five schools were represented at the workshop, which featured:

Interactive awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene

Demonstrations on how to make reusable sanitary pads

Safe spaces for students to speak openly

Testimonials from girls who have struggled with access to menstrual products

The event drew educators, community leaders, and healthcare advocates, all of whom praised the state government’s inclusive approach to youth empowerment and health education.

This initiative stands as a testament to the Aiyedatiwa administration’s determination to bridge the gap in social protection and education, especially for adolescent girls across Ondo State.
