lalaH96:This fee seems low. Are you sure they didn't do deductions and all. Be very sure so it doesn't jeopardise future applications. |

Please is there anyone using their previous B1/B2 visas gotten before pregnancy to go and give birth recently? I have a valid US visa and I have travelled with it twice before. Can I use it to give birth? If not, what are my options? Do I send letter of intent or do I request for another interview? Please help guys |

Mamaiyanu:Just go and give birth jeje and face front don’t send letter don’t request for another interview. |
| Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by dere5: 11:17am On May 28, 2025 |
Mamaiyanu:I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't bother sending the letter of intent, you'll just be drawing unnecessary attention to yourself neither should you bother requesting for another interview. Just do the necessary preparations before leaving naija, like getting doctor and hospital appointments, evidence of funds to show you can afford paying your bills, adequate accommodation arrangements etc |

Mamaiyanu:Think about your renewal before you proceed. Birthing with B1/B2 visa stopped since 2020. While some ppl are still birthing in Yankee till date, think about renewal. The consular mentioned this to me in March, also look up the previous page. You will see that another person posted the same thing I have just said. If you decide to take the risk, choose your POE wisely. |

cindermum:Madam, stop misleading people. You of all, should understand that these things are case by case. From your previous posts, you’ve been traveling to the US solely (primarily) for child birth. All your visa interviews and POE transcripts are written against your name and it wasn’t a surprise that the VO warned you specifically about a new childbirth rule. This thing is case by case and I know 4 moms that have gone to have their babies in the US without issues. No! Birth tourism with b1/ b2 did not end in 2020. It only states - intending applicant of a b1/b2 should not get a visa for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States to obtain U.S. citizenship for their child. Note “primary”. For anyone getting a visa for vacation and you decide to use it for childbirth wouldn’t be a problem as long as you were not pregnant before the interview and you declare your true intentions to the cbp officer. What the VO told you was specific to you. |

She is not misleading anyone, since the new administration came in, its been difficult for people that birth their baby in the USA to renew. I got my visa went on vacation about 8 months after and came back to NAIJA, I had my baby almost 2 years after i got my visa, I even sent change of intent yet i was refused at renewal. The VO specifically told me giving birth on a B1/B2 is no longer permissible. You can go and give birth o, but the renewal might be an herculean task babyfaiz: |
| Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Debbieeeeeee: 9:45am On May 31, 2025 |
jennyhumphrey:Birth tourism didn't stop and truly renewal may be difficult but people were not being smart sending that change of intent letter following the crowd. If anyone wants to give birth let them go ahead, it's on an individual basis. I renewed my visa with ease after birthing so I won’t expressly tell anyone don’t do it. |
| Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by flourishing247: 12:09pm On May 31, 2025 |
Mamaiyanu:1. Don't send any letter. 2. Ensure they don't give you a single discount. Pay every dime. Your bill will never be below 10k. So take note. 3. Think about the possibility that you will not be issued a visa again. It has happened to more people than you think. Especially in this regime that is tough on immigrants. 4. Try a plan B. |

I am sure you renewed before this administration, immediately that pronouncement was made in January 2025, it suddenly became difficult, I have not heard of one person that had a successful renewal after recently birthing . All the people I know where placed on 221g and subsequently refused. The VO didnt even ask about bills, she was just focused on birthing in the US, She can try her luck though, maybe by the time she would renew, the rules would have relaxed. Also, just to let you know, the change of intent didn't have any negative effect on the renewal, infact the embassy responded at a point and suddenly stopped responding. Debbieeeeeee: |

jennyhumphrey:I respectfully disagree with this perspective, as it seems to have sparked the notion that many Nigerian women are going abroad to give birth. Why are other nationalities not being subjected to the same scrutiny? The trend of sending change of intent letters has undoubtedly played a role in this situation, particularly towards individuals from Nigeria. Vietnamese, Chinese, indians and others even do birth tourism than Nigerians but Nigerians are the most affected even before the crash of our economy. Yes I renewed my visa in 2023. |
| Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by cindermum: 12:05pm On Jun 01, 2025 |
Debbieeeeeee:It was a lot easier back then because I also renewed early January 2023 and I wasn't called for an interview. This was before they started issuing 5yrs visa. I have not seen a lot of women in 2025 without 221G. Someone I know had her baby in 2023 and quickly renewed her visa Aug 2024 and she was issued 5yrs visa. It changed this year, it is not as easy as it was. |

Sir, I am not sure I have misled anyone with what I earlier mentioned. I only just stated what the visa officer told me. She said and I repeat that birthing with B1/B2 visa stopped since 2020. Well, except you know better than the visa officers or she doesn't know her job then you can do with the information what you please. Specific to only me? Like USA singled me out and said childbirth should be stopped for only me in 2020. I like how ppl pick the information that suits them. The ppl you know that birth in the USA from 2020 to date, have any of them renewed in Lagos in 2025? babyfaiz: |

cindermum:I renewed July 2023 when it was 5 years, I was scared I’d be called because I was called in 2019 after I submitted for Dropbox and then I didn’t have a baby so it was just guesswork on their part, 2021 no Dropbox had to do interview they didn’t ask me anything regarding baby thankfully but then also I didn’t have a baby it was the 2021 one I used to birth in 2023 and renewed as soon as soon as I got back. Since 2024 na para mode embassy Dey. |
| Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by cindermum: 12:28pm On Jun 01, 2025 |
Debbieeeeeee:Na serious para mode o , right in front of me were 3 ppl with 221G and all 3 were refused although it had nothing to do with childbirth. 2 out of those 3 were women too. I guess they didn't scrutinize your application because you had gone to the embassy twice already and at no point did childbirth come up . It's still going to get better. |
| Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Debbieeeeeee: 5:00pm On Jun 01, 2025 |
cindermum:2021 was my fifth visa and 2023 being the 6th and earlier in 2017 they’d held me up on suspicion of being pregnant when I wasn’t and issued me 221g in 2019 also and I still wasn’t pregnant so I’m sure they felt let’s not witch hunt her again this time 🤣. That visa I used to birth I used it very very well for holiday and I told the border officer in Atlanta I was here to give birth. |

If you already have a valid U.S. visa, congrats. Use it wisely. If you don’t, and you’re a woman in your childbearing years… well, good luck. It’s not beans. Best advice? Just face Canada. Dem still get small breathing space. 🇨🇦😅 |

Hi Debbie, it’s been a while. So I just found out I am Pregnant and currently have American Visa. Would suggest I give it a try? I haven’t applied or have a Canadian visa yet. |

Yetyb:Apply for a Canada visa as you are very likely to get it. Hold both for hand while you wait for travel time to get near then decide. You can't predict anything especially US. Better safe |

any recommended affordable doctors, please help a pregnant student |
| Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Debbieeeeeee: 1:01am On Aug 06, 2025 |
Sparkle66:As a student, you should have health insurance. Add your baby to your insurance when they are born. Check your insurance network for available doctors and recommendations, and read their reviews. That’s the best way to find a good doctor. |
